Use manipulator to play with pyshics, Valve had some test areas where that was the specific purpose, other then that...not much, but that alone is incredibly addictive.
I'd wait if you havnt played it yet, it was fun last year, but if I were to play with it now I think it would detract from the fun seeing as how HL2 is right around the corner.

The thing I did in the beta the most was play with the bugs you get to order around, I loved watching them assault the combine soldiers, lots of fun.
Especially when the physics kick in and the guys get tossed or the bugs die in mid-air when they are leaping over something.
HL2 is gonna' rock.

Back on topic, yes, HL2 is going to rock, but we will c if it hit's november, personally if you ask me, HL2 will come in 2015 with 3 addons and HL3, based on gaybe's fucked up eating obsession.

We've already seen cool physics (Painkiller, CS-source)
We've already seen great AI (Halo, Farcry)
HL2 will not be revolutionary, but maybe the first to make everything good into one game.... Just my thoughts

We have not seen a compelling storyline that clutches into you like the teeth of a hungry shark.
We have not yet experienced the diverse shooting gameplay that we will experience in HL2.
We have not yet seen the true potential of the source engine.
We have never had a game which is so complex in physics and object physics.
We have not seen the lvl of AI that HL2 will bring, the tactics the real time desicions that the AI makes tralallaal etc.
We have not yet eaten flakcannon soup and couscous.
