Sorry for that crossmr it's just that this company will have it straighten out. They want to make sure the game is in working condition. After all Stardock wouldn't want a bad rep, look at Galactic Civilizations 2 and how successful it has become.

Well the tutorials still work at the lowest resolution don't they? Broke down and bought it, just finished the first tutortial. If you really need the tutorials to help you figure out the game lower res and play them. I did it in windowed mode so the horribly low reso wouldn't drive me insane. It's no excuse and they should fix it soon, but it's not game ending.

Stardock didn't develop this one, they only published it, there is a difference.
You wouldn't think most companies would want to leave their games in the shape we get them in sometimes, but they do.

Point is, something like tutorials really need to be polished on ship. These are the first things most people will play in a game, and make your first impression. They're also not something most people will still be doing a month or two from now. Most games are sold on release or shortly there after.

Um.. well compared to b3, it feels completely different. Tho my friend epsilon here told me, that it is quite improved to b4 as well.

I guess the answer to your question is YES, definitely.

Gotta say the diplomacy aspect is fucking horrible. All the other factions do is constantly ask you to do stuff for them, and if you don't do it then you lose standing with them. Problem is the missions they give you are stupid. Give them 1000 metal or they will hate you, destroy 2 enemy structures, destroy 2 enemy ships. The problem is they are constantly coming in and if you aren't in a position to complete them at the moment, you take a huge penalty in your standing with the other faction. It's pretty much impossible to build up any standing with other factions, so the limited diplomatic choices you have, are useless.

Are the tutorials voiced? If there was anything bad in B3, it was that the tutorials were text only.

There are two accounts. One for stardock shop and another for the stardock central app. And to make even more mess one could create a nickname in 'my account' section in forums(use email & pass of stardock central app to login to forums). Use such nickname in order to access multiplayer functions, password is the same as stardock central app Very Happy

I haven't tried with SINS yet, but GalCiv 2 allows me to login to metaverse via nickname only cause my email has more chars than login field could take Very Happy

Supreme Commander meets total annihilation meets Galactic Civilization = great so far.

Actually, its more like supreme commander meets homeworld meets galciv, but yeah. about right.

It was stated they're working on it, so they're obviously aware of it, thus I'm not the only person having this issue. Any other brilliant insights?

Surely there are many who also miss the tutorials, guess why they are working on it. Then again, its just you making an issue out of it not being perfect right from the start.

Its a freakin game, not a tutorial.. if its broken, then try and play the actual game against the easy AI after going through the manual.

Quote:

So far the rest of the game isn't working too bad.. except that phase lanes don't work at all like they said in the tutorial. I got the impression that you could travel only along the phase lane, no you can travel well wide of it , which means you have to set up several defenses and keep a fleet at a planet to defend it as there is no ability to really target your defense. Good and bad I suppose.

I dont see why that bothers you at all. Phase lanes show you the connections between systems. They are not actual tubes you MUST travel throuh, just indicators to show where you can go. If they would be tubes, i would just build an iris at the end of each, and laugh as the stupid pirates bounce off into the void from it. Oh wait, thats stargate, nevermind then.

Quote:

I also had a really confused ship that didn't seem to know where it belonged. It was part of a fleet and kept trying to jump to other planets leaving its fleet behind. Even when I told it to go sit with the fleet. I would give it an order then go do something, come back, and wonder where it was. Low and behold its trying to jump far away from the fleet. I ended up scuttling it.

it might have been a scout frigate, with the explore planet command set to auto. In that case, if it has no active orders, it will start to explore. Thats the only - and most logical - reason i can think of for that behavior.

Quote:

I've only played it for about 90 minutes but so far:
It needs some polish. But overall its not too bad. Even on a small game expect to be in it for the long haul.

Yeah well.. there are no 30 minute games with this one, unless you create a custom galaxy with really just a handful of planets.

Its not perfect from the start. As I said, tutorials are the first impression and they've failed on them.

Quote:

because in the working part of the tutorial it gave me the impression that travel was just along the phase lanes. My point was if you played the tutorial it was easy to be a little unclear on how they worked. It lead to improper defenses in my first conquered planet because I didn't realize you could jump so wide of the phase lanes.

Quote:
it might have been a scout frigate, with the explore planet command set to auto.
and you might be a fanboy trying to make up excuses. It wasn't a scout frigate. It was a light frigate the same as the rest of the ships in the group. The ship obviously had something wrong with it. Because while it was trying to jump, it never successfully would. it would sit on the edge of the system with a path to the next system but never jump, I'd send it back with the group and it would go towards them but then turn around and head back for that one spot again.

the account i created during the ordering process never got created at all though because i couldnt even log into the shop which is what i tried doing before i even downloaded there app

its a pretty cool game though i just had a 3hour fight on the small random map and got my arse kicked at the end Very Happy
i can see this game taking up alot of my time

btw if your tutorial doesnt work just try loading it a few time i got the first tutortial to work on the fourth try and the other 3 worked perfectly fine

Or i might just be the software developer who is sick of people always talking about how a product sucks when they find one little glitch in it, or a flaw somewhere.

Plus i was merely trying to help by giving a possible explanation you can verify. If it wasnt that, well.. it must have been something else. I never said i was sure. Please note:

IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN...

Thanks for your useless ranting again.

I find it funny that a game with no-cd protection is somehow more secured than a game with it. I mean by now you think you should have seen a proper release.

It does have protection then, they do it through the serial you buy the game with. If the scene guys find a way to prevent Sins accessing their database then we are set. Looks like i will being buying this.

I think the registration is just for getting updates and such. The disc itself is just - install, remove and play. They go through pains to explain the there are no DRM on the discs.

Something else is holding up the release

theres no activation in the download version you just need the serial for online play i dont think it even asked for a serial apart from in the ironclad online thing or whatever its called.

the games all about multiplayer though so anyone who likes it should really buy it.
