You're right, it really was Montreal, though the producer changed.
Code: | Jordan Mechner, creator of the Prince of Persia character, had worked on The Sands of Time, though not on Warrior Within. He made a statement about the game appearing in Wired Magazine, December 2005: "I'm not a fan of the artistic direction, or the violence that earned it an M rating. The story, character, dialog, voice acting, and visual style were not to my taste." His absence in the game's production was a likely reason for the drastic changes. |
OK, they screwed up at one game.

i liked SoT and TTT alot more than i liked WW because of gameplay. Storywise the second game was also decent, but it should have been condensed into a more enjoyable and less annoying game.

It was created to be as an Arabian Nights tale. WW was made for rock kiddies.

Sorry, I meant "Ubi Montreal invented the 'Sands of Time' trilogy". Anyway, they were not responsible for the mediocre 'Warrior Within', only the two good ones. |
Ubisoft Montreal did also develop Warrior Within! |
Just wiki Ubisoft Montreal, they're really good at what they do.
They did the first Splinter Cell and PoP.

It might be based partially on the Cry engine but as I understand it it's more or less totally rewritten.
Quote: |
Ubisoft has created its own game engine called Dunia - which means 'World' in Swahili - for the development of Far Cry 2, and it'll be part of the developer's future next-gen projects. The Dunia engine is geared toward creating a credible environment, and a high level of immersion.

Doesn't say what it is based on, if anything? But as long as it looks good, it doesn't matter

You're right, I'm unsure if it's a new engine or based on a existing one such as the Cry Engine 1 (Far Cry and it's various console releases.)
Only information I could find was the FAQ in the official forums but it didn't have that many details either.

A sortof amusing interview to answer your engine questions: http://extreme.pcgameshardware.de/showthread.php?t=8308
In short: Dunia engine built from the ground up since 05
BTW does this mean brown is the new brown? Or is it still grey? I'm confused.

It all sounds very cool so far, but I'm afraid the African setting is gonna get boring fast.
I mean..it's not gonna have huge cities and lots of buildings for you to explore etc.

Well considering that Crysis was nothing more than an overglorified tech demo, I'm pretty sure Far Cry 2 is better by default provided that the game runs better and they stick to their vision. Or at least to most of it.

It'll be the same as STALKER, Crysis or Just Cause. I don't really see the issue when no games offer you both a big city and many buildings to explore.

FC2 is using a heavily modified version of the first cry engine. I believe it's called Cry Engine 1.5 (who saw that one coming...anyone?) since UBI owns it.
