Why don't give your selfs hair cut and a job, then you can buy hl2 instead of bitching about internet connection.

You can use a computer at work, school, internet cafe's, library etc to do your internet surfing Smile
Internet is not something that is limited to your home Wink

Yes but all you have to do is register your CDkey, so what difference does it make?

the diff is that to unlock the files you need to have the fils there...

so if you got a library...
you need to install it there

you got to a lan cafe
you gotta install it there

i dunno but with xp it checks connection after inet... i dun thik that's the case with hl2

in hl2 you first isntall steamtyped thing put in your cd key and being preload-like installlation... then it unlocks if the key is legit.. which makes cracking the boxed version impossible Laughing

you can go on lan cafes w/ steam and login w/ ur user info an unlock the game there but it will still only be unlocked there on that puter with the files to unlock...

have the same account on two pcs at home and unlock it on one when the game comes out then lunch it on the other w/o having steam unlocking it.. it's impossible Razz

so even lan cafes won't do much

and through e-mail it would cause valve to reveal their unlocking method which if made public would simply jeapradize the whole hl2... people would get it for free... etc.

fuck... i'm writing like a teenager now Sad IRC DID THIS TO ME! IRC!

Why would you be reading the Nforce forums if you don't have an internet connection at home? Reading about what you could download if you had a connection at home perhaps? I dont think schools or libararies let you download and play isos do they? Wink

RUMOR #4: To be playable, the single-player portion of the retail version of Half-Life 2 will require buyers to be connected to the Internet.

Source: The Quarter To Three Forums, soapbox for the discerning gamer.

The official story: See below.

What we heard: What started off as a complaint on the Valve forums about having to set up a Steam account to register Half-Life 2 sparked a flurry of speculation that to play Half-Life 2, you would need to be connected to the Web constantly. Although it elicited some biting observations ("Funny these complaints are posted by people WITH NET CONNECTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!", said one poster) it is, thankfully, not the case. "For security/anti-piracy, each copy must be authenticated via Steam during installation," Valve's Doug Lombardi told GameSpot. "After this one-time (per install) authentication is complete, an Internet connection is not required for single player and LAN games."

Bogus or not bogus?: Bogus.

This game is worth it, and you all deadbeats go out and get a job if you want to play this.

You think HL2 has any chance surviving the hackers/crackers. It can be cracked easily, if not a modified version of HL2 can be released by the groups. I will be buying it when it comes out but HL2 has no chance surviving the scene.

Few good games DID survive the scene, and I think HL will too.
There were few SF3 games, that werent cracked, and who knows maybe HL2 has alot better protection then SF3.

Actually HL2's protection is more like XP or like CS: Source has. It can be easily cracked.

Haha.
This is a community pal. Figure out what you do in a community since you obviously haven't already. Smile
Here is a hint on what we do in this community. We like to talk about something that interest us all (5 letters and it starts with a G and ends with an S). You figure out the rest.
Not everything is about "omg im leeching this or that". It's actually fun to just talk Wink

Animalmother, if someone wants to own me they have to do it better than that Cool
I thought everyone knew what a forum was and it's use, ohwell guess i was wrong.

prolly after now. most magazine / review places already have their copy and that doesnt require a steam activation (probably) so the 1 a group will get will be a gold version i.e requires activation. chances of them getting one of these isnt very high until after release date. however i hold my breath just in case Very Happy

I was just giving an example. Don't be an ass. Activation happens just like XP. Plus they could do it exactly how they did CS: Source.

That doesn't necesarry has to be the case, if the game indeed only have to be connect once ,than probably its indeed easy but if you have to stay connected to internet while playing the whole single player game..then it might unencrypt game data from the server and the crackers need to complete the game first and log everything etc and this takes more time then usual...

The reason illegal versions can play CS: S is because VAC2 hasnt been activated yet, when it is everyone who uses the cracked version will be banned.
Its been stated on steam forums somewhere.

another way of valves way of scaring people!

god! if it was easy to leak hl2, and it was easy to get css beta, and other shit what makes you think vac2 will do anything?

if you use a third party program while you're in a vac server you're banned for a year! FUCKING GAY!

vac2 will blow and peeps like empiro will find ways of cracking it Razz

Well I don't really read the steam forums. Sorry for giving a friggin prediction.

Oh and highstuff yea it only needs to connect once. "For security/anti-piracy, each copy must be authenticated via Steam during installation," Valve's Doug Lombardi told GameSpot. "After this one-time (per install) authentication is complete, an Internet connection is not required for single player and LAN games."

1. It was very easy to leak HL2 alpha considering 10000000 of people played it at game shows and shit, obviously wasnt that hard to steal.
2. CS:S beta was also easy to aquire considering almost everyone had it.
3. VAC2 is even better then WON that kept all the cracked versions out.

Anyways, just wait and see what will happen when VAC2 activated and there are more major patches are out.
As of right now, this CS: S is nothing more then a beta with more maps.

As for Valve banning anyone whos using third party programs, good stuff, keep the 0-skill cheaters away.

vac2 will be easily cracked when it comes out... nothing is impossible within the cracking community

if you're dedicated enough you'll do anything

Weeks after vac2 is enabled you'll see cheats and hacks out

Exactly it was easy to steal! Valve isn't the best company to protect things... i mean they had so many fuck ups as they released the beta and shit. I’m surprised steam hasn't sent out all of the registered cd keys to some anonymous e-mail Razz

Css was easy to steal and it was easier to crack and valve made it seem impossible…

Even if vac2 stops people from playing illegal version of css online it won’t stop people from freely playing hl2 and I think hl2 is what valve should be worried about not some online game that blows goats nuts compared to the original.
