Yeah, it's "totally useless" to run an x86-64 CPU in long mode executing 64-bit compiled binaries to take advantage of such features as:
increased registers (both general purpose and xmm sse)
larger physical space
larger address space (virtual)
64-bit integer support
Depending on the program, large sections of code may require re-doing or completely rewritten to support such features as software pipelining or"big number maths". Of course, some programs can be 90% ported as the 64-bit / 32-bit API's are virtually identical, and reap performance benefits in the 64-bit environment due to 64-bit compiler optimisations.
But, for example, if the program requires drivers, even more development time is needed. I'm sure it's an expensive decision to make, but such performance increases only come into play when a software house has dedicated resources to support coding for the 64-bit instruction set / 64-bit drivers and so on.
In that scenario, taking an existing 32-bit application and "making" it a native 64-bit multithreaded application isn't a simple task of taking existing 32-bit code and compiling it in a 64-bit compiler, slapping a 64-bit sticker on the box and shipping it out the door for TripleNine to download from his torrentz to then complain about on the NFOrce forum about it's poor 64-bit or multicore implementations.
Autodesk 3DS Max (64-bit)
Autodesk Maya Unlimited (64-bit)
LightWave (64-bit)
Mathematica (64-bit)
Maxon CINEMA 4D (64-bit)
Maxon CINEBENCH (64-bit)
SONAR Producer Edition (64-bit)
SOFTIMAGE|XSI (64-bit)
Get all of the above programs and benchmark on a decent machine. You'll find the 64-bit editions outperforming their 32-bit counterparts due to the combinations of all the above features I mentioned atop about the x86-64 instruction set.
There are 64-bit games available (either out of the box or via patches) but imho offer no benefit in performance over their 32-bit siblings. Some of which:
Crysis
Half-Life 2 / Lost Coast
Bet On Soldier: Blood Sport
Shadow Ops: Red Mercury
Codename: Panzers (Phase one)
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
WWII Tank Commander
Far Cry
Unreal Tournament 2004
World of Warcraft
64-bit should benefit large areas of computing, such as in simulations, 3D rendering, video editing, codecs / streaming media, programming tools / compilers, databases, web servers, transaction processors and most server applications. As previously said, as the 64-bit community grows so too will the selection of 64-bit programs available.
To state otherwise TripleNine clearly shows your lack of knowledge on any subject you comment on. And from your forum postings so far ....

So you said it yourself, 64bit is good for servers and professional computers. Not for home pc.
You also said yourself it is not good for games. So why did I needed to upgrade my mb because I wanted to have faster amd cpu?
And it's what I was saying, they don't make their application in 64bit because it's useless. It is useful only for a minority of very special application.
Stop your bs, before the dualcore, the 2 cpu mb was available and nobody was buying it because it was not good for nothing but professional stuff like 3d-rendering. Everybody was saying the same about that. And from my source, they say the dualcore cpu is the same thing as 2cpu mb.
<-------btw
Your knowledge doesn't appear to help you much in a forum debate. You just repeat exactly what I said, he say what I said is wrong, this doesn't make any sense. Since god don't help you much, we see how good you are
I think it's time to sell the Lamborghini and start selling finished and unbuggeg product before everybody download their games on torrent instead of buying them.

I'm glad you mentioned the area's in which 64bit computing would be useful, because in my eyes its only real use is for applications which will require the addressing of memory more than a 32bit system can support. I just can't see it being useful in games for a long time to come, thus it doesn't need to be supported by any.

As I prevously said, beyond just the use of the increased memory space, the x86-64 instruction set also provides improved floating point performance and a doubling of the amount of registers for general purpose and sse operations. It is a combination of all these factors and not just the addressable memory that yields the performance benefits.
Over the next few years, I think games will eventually take advantage of what it has to offer. Until then, it will continue to be used in almost all the other areas of computing I mentioned.

The bug rarely happens .
Infact according to some people on overclockers forums they haven't witnessed anything yet
Can only mean good news for Amd |
It can be solved with some kind of a patch I think, but the quad Intel still overruns Phenom, AMD is, unfortunately, on a downward spiral...

all the amd phenom compatible motherboard bioses should include the tlb patch from what ive read on the hardocp forums. will probably buy one when they drop in price a bit since i have a compatible motherboard.

Id say go with Intel because AMD is having some trouble with the Phenom.
