Far Cry 2 Spreads it's Wings to PS3 and 360
Quote: | UK, January 3, 2008 - Ubisoft has announced that Far Cry 2, the follow-up to 2004's hit PC game, will also be coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3.
The first game, developed by Crysis, perfected an open-end approach to first-person games and won itself many fans in the process. Ubisoft Montreal has now taken over the reins for the sequel, and it looks to be equally impressive, taking the player on a sandbox tour of the savannahs of Africa via a eye-popping graphics engine.
The PC version is due to hit towards the end of Q1 2008, with the console versions slated for release somewhere in the vague time-line of the fiscal year 2008-2009 |

Ubisoft Montreal, those assholes made sc:padnora tommorow if I'm not mistaken, by far the worst sc on the pc, an obviously bad port unlike the original sc which was a great port and the best sc:chaos theory which was developed on the pc and then ported to other consoles.
What 'version' will Far Cry 2 be? I wonder....
My guess it will behave like a crappy port but that's just pessimistic me.

No, because if you look at the videos, you'd know that this kind of graphics is just not possible on consoles. Consoles will get the port here, with half-assed graphics and gameplay (aka FC2 Instincts).

Please do us all a favor and look up what a port is, and try again.
Even if you have a magical crystal ball that tells you how a game is gonna turn out monthes ahead of release or demo, if it is crappy, it will not be a crappy 'port.' Obviously if they just announced the 360 and PS3 version, and those versions have a vague future release date, the code from the pc version will be "ported" to those devs who will be working on those versions of the game, not vice versa.

Actually what will happen when a console release is announced while the PC version is still in development is something along the lines of:
PC Developer Lead: Ok guys, we've just got word a console version is planned. Time to rethink our idea and feature list and trash anything that doesn't hold up to console memory/processing/control limitations.
*Said features are listed*
*Said features are cut*
Result: Console/PC versions are very similar in terms of content.
If this didn't happen you'd potentially have 2 very different versions of the same game.
Thats why (ideally) console versions should be started only after PC development has ended. That is, at least, if you want the game to realize its full potential.
I'm assuming the above situation is what's happened here right? Console version announced during PC development cycle? Sorry, didn't read the entire thread.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

I know it's developed for the pc but there is still more than enough time for them to cock-it-up, dumb-it down for the consoles and remove coll stuff because the 360 doesn't have the memory power, it is certainly possible. My point of view has always been if you're gonna make a game for pc and the consoles have two completely different staff teams, each working on their own version of the game. Of course the company's disagree with me because they are seeing this as having the production and the cost of one game getting stretched to two games, not what they like to hear, but a great game on each platform will sell more and bring them more money than an average game being developed for all platforms.
If someone played far Cry on the xbox360 and the pc can enlighten us to the differences between the two.

Why would they cut stuff out of PC version that's already there...just to make all versions 100% same ?

When they are released a year later than it is encouraged to have extra content otherwise what would be the point of buying it if you already played it on another platform.

I'm hoping they don't change the pc version at all now. It will be released first so they can add more content for consoles as long as the pc version gets it in a patch later on.
Using the pc resources like textures, sound, etc is fine but dont change the pc specific gameplay mechanics if the console versions cant handle it just to release the "same" game on all plaforms.
Looking forward to this game. It could surpass crysis in gfx and gameplay. Well crysis gameplay wasnt that impressive really it felt like i was playing a tech demo which it was really.

It will surpass crysis in gfx, the videos i saw around the web are awesome.
In terms of gameplay it looks unique, the "take the bullet out with a knife" thing is great.

On Xbox PT was the best SC. It had the best levels and story. (I didn't play DA yet!)
I guess the same can be said about the PC version if it is not seriously fucked up somehow.

It wasn't as good a port as the first splinter cell which came 6 months later it was a rushed port, and the developer was different clearly not interested in polishing the pc version.
Second I think some stuff were missing like in the sc:double agent, that one was fucked up because the old consoles got the full package and the next-gen and the pc were missing some stuff and even a level I think, like there were two versions of the game and the old hags got the better version.

The old-gen and next-gen versions were developed by two different studios. These guys, Ubisoft Montreal, did the old-gen one, which is supposed to be superior (I agree with that, played both versions). Ubi Montreal invented Splinter Cell, invented the Prince of Pesia series and now they developed Assasin's Creed. If someone can make this game good, they can.

Montreal make the good games, Shanghai make the crappy cashins, while Montreal is working on proper sequel (like what happened with SC, you had the first by Montreal, and then while they were making CT, Shanghai did PT). Good thing Montreal are working on Conviction.

Ehem...WTF?
You wanted to say "new POP series"? The POP I and II (the original, 2d ones) were NOT ubi's.

Sorry, I meant "Ubi Montreal invented the 'Sands of Time' trilogy". Anyway, they were not responsible for the mediocre 'Warrior Within', only the two good ones.
They also did Myst 4, which was much better than Myst 5 IMO.
