My sister wants one for Christmas, but she doesn't want to have a bullshit contract with AT&T.  I know there are better phones and I have already told her, but she is a Mac freak and wants one.

You're fucking joking, thats an absurd price. It costs $400 in the US, and over here you can get it with a £35 a month contract thats only binding for a year.

You can get 1.1.1 firmware iphones on ebay, quite easy to unlock for under $600. I dont think the new shipped 1.1.2 iphones unlocked perfect yet.

Or just buy one unlocked for around $650 - $700. Thats what the last few auctions on ebay ended for.

I got a 1.1.1 Firmware buy it now off ebay for $560 including express shipping in Canada.

Also, dont buy any unlocking software, because jailbreak for 1.1.1 firmware is free at many guide sites.

It is sold in France without any contracts, and it was available in Germany without a contract for a short period of time due to a court order.

I guess the lack of availability has made the prices shoot up then.

There are unlocked iphones for £420 over here, assuming availability thats only about $800.

I was hoping to find one around $600.  My friend can unlock the iphone, so I wasn't too worried about that aside from the firmware that would be on it. (1.1.1 as opposed to 1.1.2)  Though he tells me that it won't be long before 1.1.2 is hacked.

The phones unlocked with no contract are 999 Euros.

As it's the law in America they can sell it only with a contract.

As thats illegal in Europe and the UK, I'm putting my price on the Euro and the weak Dollar.

I thought it was only illegal in France? At least here you can only buy it with a contract after the court order against this practice has been revoked.

No contracts are required if you buy one at an actual apple store, you just go in and buy one, I looked into it when they first came out, but really they aren't all that great, the
only really fantastic thing about them is that they do near full internet browsing.

They have upped the anti for next Gen phones which is good for the consumer I suppose.

much cheaper to get them from a normal store in US. My cosin have bought one for me; 399 USD. Not bad at all. The one they sell pre-unlocked are always damn overpriced. And you dont even need a computer to unlock them. (the new FW 1.1.2, isnt unlockable atm tho)

Er because it would be easier to see how much he'd have to spend in his own currency if he wanted to order it. Minus p&p of course.
