I have some old PC parts lying around, and i was thinking about what i could make of it.. Maybe mediacenter/HTPC of some sort for the livingroom? Fileserver? Im not sure, give me some tips, and atleast one reason why Smile

the parts ill be using:

AMD Athlon64 3700+
Asus A8N-VM CSM Micro ATX mobo (small in size Smile)
1 gb PC3200 DDR ram
GeForce 8600GT 256mb

I already have a modded Xbox wich i currently use for xvid/dvdr playback on my TV.. but i dunno, maybe building a PC gives me a more versatile mediacenter? Hm.

You could use it as a dedicated download/playback machine which means you don't have to transfer the files to the xbox. Plus it can record (with a tuner card) so you never miss an oprah episode again. Razz

depends on the things you do with your other pcs. If your gaming pc is a power-hungry one, you could try to make the above your surfing and downloading machine (if your monitor has two inputs). Underclocking the cpu and gfx-card to really low power consumption can be a fun game Very Happy

That isnt a bad idea.. Just throw all my HDDs, and future ones, in a bigtower with these parts and just have a Raptor disk in my main PC. Removes some heat and gives me more room in my case. But then id have to access everything by network.. Could work Very Happy
