Hello all,
Now that these two formats are compatible and we won't need to convert anything etc, I was wondering if there were any hi def xvid formats also supported? Would be nice to see hd-dvd rips in 720p xvid.
I know these sorts of releases exist (x264 isnt it or something?), but does the new update make them too playable?
Thanks!

Still have WMVs (VC1) you can have HDRips of... but could do that long before the update.

x264 is just an open source encoder using the h.264 codec standard, it has been playable since the last fall update (i think) but is only supported in mp4 container with stereo sound.
Most scene releases are 5.1 sound and in matroska container, .mkv
So basically all you have to do to get HD scene releases playable is to put the video stream into a mp4 file (no re-encoding, no quality loss) and downmix 5.1 sound to stereo.
For the less tech savy or ppl that wants a one click operation you can download Videora Xbox 360 Converter to do this for you.. Just choose the mkv passtrough option.
Since there is no re-encoding it doesnt take that long to create a playable file (basically its just a copy paste thing). Depending on your harddisk speed a full movie like Letters.From.Iwo.Jima.2006.1080p.BluRay.x264-DEFiNiTE (8 gigs in size)
takes about 30 mins.
With the new update Divx/Xvid files are also supported as you all know.. But to answer your question, yes HD divx files with resolutions up to 1280 x 720 (720p) are supported. 1920×1080 (1080p) are not.

Yes you are..
You need to choose the "mkv passtrough" profile, if you dont have that option you need a newer version. When you are done you should have a file with .mp4 extension consisting of a h.264 video stream and a 2.0 AAC audio stream.
It's better to do the conversion manually though since Videora Xbox 360 Converter sometimes fails.
For manual processing you could use:
MP4Box
MKVToolnix
FFmpeg
There are also other GUI apps that tries to simplify the remuxing. GOTsent is one..

The mp4box bug isn't the problem though, all my manual conversions crashes at 99% aswell, but the files play flawlessly anyway. Your files probably fails becuase videora tells ffmpeg to detect sound format automatically (which doesnt work on all files with ac3). If you get a blank file or no file at all produced that is surely it..
I had this problem with some files, then I spent a few minutes to read up on how to do this manually and found out that you just need to add -f ac3 to the ffmpeg command to get it to work.
But if you have a pc connected to your tv/home theatre why bother with the 360 at all? I sure wouldn't anyway..
