You know...something makes me sad...
All this expectation was only seen with Doom 3 ( hope this one will be better )...After releasing HL 2 I dont see any "super hit " on the horizon..Its like when kids, the best and more exciting time was just the day before Christmas...after midnight it was told story until next year...After HL2 I dont see the next blockbuster, like " Starcraft 2", "Sam and Max 2", or Duke Nukem Forever ( this one is just a joke )...Any Idea??

Yes you are right...but this are supposed hits..I mean there is always the possibility that after Stalker or Fear, etc. release the conclusion " IT SUCKS..." may be said...This is highly improbable with HL 2 as it was with Doom 3..thats why they generate this expectation that it is translated in pages and pages of posts

Well no game is guaranteed to be good, you can only anticipate, which is what everyone is doing with HL2.
Trust me, when FEAR, and stalker are due for release they'll have threads at least equal in size to this one.

monolith is a lot better than valve...
half life is nothing compared to tron, nolf 2, nolf, and blood series (and other games i forgot)
when hl2 comes out it will set the bar higher for other games and when stalker will come out it will reach the bar and nudge it just high enough for monolith to come out with fear and just demolish the rating scheme.
Monolith makes games! awesome games! there is not one monolith game that wasn't jaw dropping and insipiring...
hl2 will have eye candy and possible gameplay... fear WILL have the gameplay! may not be as jaw dropping as hl2 in eye candy land but it will beat hl2 in terms of gameplay!

Monolith
Blood series-One was a great game but 2 was just ok
NOLF series-Again one was a great game and one of my favorites but I was really disappointed with 2. Didn't really find it as funny as the first one and got kinda bored with it and just wanted to finish it. Expansion pack sucked
AVP2-Good game
TRON 2.0-OK but it never seemed to end. Got really bored with it. Never finished it.
Valve
Half-Life-My favorite game of all time
Monolith has had a few blunders up their sleeves. They're not the best. Valve has only made one game (not including HL2) so time will tell.

Its like you want to have people be pissed off at ya, you tend to make out landish sayings, such as fear having better gameplay then hl2, when you havent played ethier, infact you havent even seen an ingame clip of FEAR gameplay....

i think that STALKER offers the next best gameplay compared to HL2. fear looks good but i dont think it will hold on as much. and how can u say half life 2 will just be eye candy with no fun? i hope they mkae an expansion like opposing force, we all know OF killed HL in gameplay

What gets my gaul is HL2 is shipping with *NO MP* at all. CSS is HL2: Multiplay component (a seperate purchase I might add) so I'd be buying a SP only game. Hopefully, (crossing many appendages), the mod community will get a MP component for HL2 as right now basic things like DM, CTF, and even TF2 wouldn't hold a candle to UT2004 (the leader of shear multiplayer fun!) although UNREAL2 Extended MP was damn cool.
If anything, I do hope the mod community EVOLVES THE MP GENRE a little like CS did for HL1. Mod communities have more passion and chalk, the devs just provide the board.

well actually you get CSS with HL2, it's not a seperate purchase.
It's with the cheapest HL2 packages (49.95$)
What you have to pay extra for is Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life Source.
And well, the leaked alpha already had multiplayer deathmatch, so even if it isn't there officially I'm sure it can be done easily by an average modder.

You people don’t get it! You don’t see what half life 2 will cause to the fps genre. The most anticipated game and as hailed by reviewers it will be the best game out. It WILL be the best game up until the release of half life 3. And that’s a fucking shame. When doom 3 was nearing it’s final date everyone compared other games to doom 3 “oh this will never beat doom3 ,doom 3 will be the best game ever, doom3 this doom3 that” FUCK! This is the same shit happening with half life 2 only this time it’s true.
When the game comes out a lot of you will go crazy… you will get on your knees and such gabes nonexistent cock and praise half life 2. then stalker comes out. “Wow this game is fun, but it’s nothing compared to hl2, so fuck it…” Then fear same quote… exact same fucking quote… then other fps games! Half life 2 will be a door way to the next generation of first person shooters and there won’t be any game for quite some time (years even) to walk through the doorway… every game will be stuck at the entrance because ignorant kids will compare it to half life 2. And no game can possibly stand nose to nose with half life 2. NO GAME! You guys are right! And it doesn’t make it good. Half life 2 comes out and it will be over! Really OVER. Not just a figure of speech. No game will be able to come close to half life 2, not game will be even able to surpass half life 2. and if you people think that is great in the year 2004 and when most of you (the posters are just in their teens) then fine… let it be.
And when you’re older and you think the upcoming game will be amazing you will still compare it to half life 2. FUCK MOST OF YOU COMPARE EVERY OTHER GAME OUT NOW TO HALF LIFE! FUCK! Half life this, half life that…. Wow! Half life wasn’t even beat and it’s been what? Huh? Now think half life 2…. You really want that? What’s the last game you played that compared to the quality half life had? Huh? NONE! They came close, very close but it’s just like what’s going to happen when hl2 comes out. The reviews say it’s a lot better than half life… that’s something you should be aware of. COD was great, DOOM 3 was fun, nolf was fun, etc… but what game honestly reached the bar half life set? What game will possibly be able to reach the newly set bar when half life 2 comes out? It will be 20 hours! 20 fucking hours! And those 20 hours will never be beaten by any game… valve made one great game and now it’s about to release another…
Why do I want it to fail? Because I want to see other games receive the respect they deserve. I don’t want other games being compared to hl2…. Hl2 will be the abomination of the fps genre and if that’s what you want in the year 2004/2005 then be it… it’s just a shame seeing such a great genre going t waste for a 20 hour game.

It's true, in time even the wonderful Half-Life 2 may be outdone. But a games success can also be measured by how long it lasts until the next game comes along.
When comparing say Doom 3 and Half-Life 2, I look at it this way, which one will make a bigger splash? Doom 3 already feels forgotten, I have no doubt in my mind that Half-Life 2 will stick around much longer than Doom 3.
Also, one of the major reasons why a lot of us look forward to Half-Life 2 is for the mods. Sure Doom 3 will have its mods, but there are already such big and fantastic projects going on for HL2, it just seems that Source/HL2 will hit the gaming world a lot harder and be a lot better.
