yeah, I guess your average engine would just give up and crash when you tried to do stuff like that. hehe

re-read my post, i never said crysis was episodic. i take issue with games being created not to tell a story, but PURELY to start a franchise. you dont get a complete story, what your really getting is a taste to make you keep coming back to pay more money to play the next game and the next game to finish a singular story
all they are doing, is taking one story, watering it down and splitting it into three so that people will have to pay 3 times just to play one story that could have been put into a single game. i know its just business, but its pretty cheap and dirty.

There's a difference between games and tv-shows IMHO. In Tv-shows you know from the beginning that you're probably not going to know everything from day one, and you always know when the next episode continues... not to mention the fact that you're not paying $50 for each episode. In games you never know when the next chapter comes, for some games you don't even know if they'll ever show up (if sales are too low they just say "Sorry, we don't have any ending for the story... we're out of money"... Just look at Dreamfall... how many years was it since it's release? Wasn't it summer 2005? The ending made you feel like a total failure, and left more open questions than the average Lost episode).
When I buy a game I expect an ending to the story (but still keep the story open for a sequel if there are plans for one). When the next episode gets released a year (or in Dreamfalls case: years) later, I have probably forgotten the story (though in Crysis' case, there isn't that much of a story, but that's besides the point )
And one more thing: Who knows if you're still interested in the game a few years later? Like in Dreamfalls case the story was interesting, but the gameplay was non-existant. If the gameplay in the sequel (if there's ever going to be one) is the same, then I doubt I'll play it. Even though I would love to get the ending
I haven't finished Crysis yet, but I'm close ("swimming" around in that huge ugly maze, trying to figure out where to go)

OK I've gotten to the last level in this, now I have to get the "TAC Gun", now reading a crysis forum I found you should find it in the armory downstairs but I cannot and I've been playing the bit for a while trying get downstairs or the "TAC gun". I've been reading there is a bug in the game which lets you get to the final bit but missing the tac gun, if so lol at crysis as I've never had this happen in iny of the shooters I've played before

I didn't notice that I got the objective to retrieve the tac gun from the armory, and just went upstairs to the deck, continuing on, and the door was shut behind me.
so I had to load an earlier save and go and get the tac gun, which wasnt really a problem as crysis creates so many autosaves for you.
still, you shouldn't blame the game for you missing an objective. it's really the player's fault for not getting the tac gun when the game gave you the objective to do so.

Level designers are supposed to make sure the player doesn't get stuck/blocked. It's a game designing law.

I wouldnt say that. Its youre mistake not games if you dont take what you need. This game isnt on rail. You decide what you do, so if you dont take something its youre problem. Many games in the past used that kind of system. Nowdays its games for retards. Check Blacksite Area 51. Thats fine example of game designer holding youre hand while playing. Do specific thing in specific order in specific place or you cant continue foward.

Quote from the guy that did this on Youtube
Quote: | I downloaded your map , used all your settings and still cant get it to run smooth what am I doing wrong ? and whats your System specs ? |
Quote: | You're not reading.
1. It's not my map.
2. The video is rendered with capture_frames and isn't real time.
3. System specs should only affect the speed at which you render, the video should always be as smooth as anyone's. |

Im wondering what would happen if you type that command in when playing the normal game. Anyone tried?

quite honestly most impressive thing I've seen done with a game engine
But don't get what they're doing? Why does it work so good with those settings than on normal settings? Whats the disadvantage of it? there must be one |
It runs at about 0.1FPS in real time, thats a pretty big disadvantage. |
No ,every object runs in different frame rate. Learn to read? |
Usually the physics have a separate frame rate from the rendering speed, so that the physics load doesn't affect gameplay, this is what makes the initial physics sequence laggy. With 'sys_physics_CPU 0' the physics and rendering frame rate are synchronized, so it looks smooth. It also kills the overall FPS, the physics rendering shown on the video runs at 8 seconds per frame on average, or 0.125 FPS.
Using the 'capture_frames' console command he can render the sequences at any FPS, capture the visual at every frame, then play it back at the frame rate you see in the video.

How much FPS difference does the sys_physics_CPU 0 command have in normal gameplay though? There's usually not very many objects being affected by physics at one time, so it shouldn't be too noticeable?

did you lot even watch the video? the difference is... well... one runs at 40-50 fps... and one runs at .03 fps... jeez... that command is NOT useful in game, its only to make a pretty video.
