That was a huge problem back then and now, this was fixed I think in HL2EP3, but after they upgraded their engine. 200,000 hits for a problem thread is a lot.

They have a good engine now, so I think it would had been wise to concentrate on a good story. This one was "ok", but I still feel the work they did on the game was 80% engine and 20% story. How about atleast going 50/50 this time? They can still improve the engine (like Valve do) but put main focus on a good story.

fuck the story, it's a shooter. if I want a story I go play an adventure or an RPG, you should do the same.

I agree with ya there,
But for the record I was running Crysis on a Pent 4 2.4ghz with 512 of ram and a radeon AIW 9600 pro.It ran at low settings with no lag and thats no bs.

there is absolutely no point playing crysis on low at all
and yes hl2 stuttered always don't know about ep3 coz last one i played on pc was ep2
and guess what somehow magically hl2+ep2 does not stutter or lag on 360 at all and at the same time loox as good
so it's all about optimization

I got full enjoyment out of it and it still looks great.I'm not of this new school of thought that if a game doesn't have top of the line graphics it sucks.

I never had any stuttering with Source games, and I've played all of them. Maybe just lucky, I don't know. Source feels optimised for me.
Oh, and yes Crysis scales very badly. At medium it loses a lot of eye candy and still eats my PC for breakfast. Nice going Crytards. Stuff your "scalable" hype !

yeah i think we are starting to see a LOT of the lies that crytek knowingly told while hyping the game... the game DOES scale well, but seriously, playing the game on anything other than high is utterly pointless because the quality looks worse than playing doom... that, and the fact that nothing other than a dual core 8800gtx sli 64bit system with a shitload of ram, will be able to run this game how it was meant to be run...
i admire their intention and desire to make the most visually stunning and immersive game ever made - they succeeded, but practically this isnt a game for the public, and crytek should never have indicated that it ever was.

Same could be said of Far Cry, right? Yet no major mods came out for that. I suspect the same here, there's that much you can do with an island simulator. |
FC had rediculously bad netcode + the SDK was first released 1 year after the release of the game.

I played it on Medium with some settings on Low and I had shitloads of fun with Crysis because it's not all about the graphics. The graphics are only the most important thing if you are a player who thinks so. I don't care that much about graphics, I don't have a problem with playing 6 year old games either (I play the original half-life deathmatch too).
There are just some things in crysis that make it stand out, other than it's graphics, and maybe those things aren't entertaining enough for some people, but for me they are.
Like... the huge open levels that I keep mentioning, the awesome physics (which I was able to set to high without problems).. destroying houses with grenades or punching in the roofs and shit is just really cool. Just like destructable palm trees.. makes for really cool jungle fights.
Hell, I played the demo and multiplayer beta with everything but textures on Low on my crappy laptop (it ran great) and it was still lots of fun to play.
So yeah, if you were only interested in Crysis' graphics, and then it comes out and you can only play it on low or medium then that sucks, but I (and many other people as well) play Crysis for more than just it's graphics.
I'm looking forward to buying a G92 8800 GTS in 2 weeks, then I will be able to enjoy Crysis the way it was meant to be played (hehe), but I'd be perfectly happy with Crysis if Medium was the highest setting available. I'd still have bought it.

That's what scaling means. So it DOESN'T scale well.

scaling doesnt mean that it runs on high settings on all pc's, to my mind scaling means that it can be adjusted and quality sacrificed to be playable on a wide range of machines, which crysis can do, so as far as im concerned it is scalable...
the point im making is that its scalability is pointless because anything less than high looks pretty ugly even though its playable.
---------
and btw, i think graphics play a huge part in this game... the whole atmosphere of the game is based around the concept of feeling like your creeping through a jungle, a living environment - and illusion completely blown by lower end settings, because it just feels like your walking through something plasticy, fake and dead.
