Hmm, I have no problems with my connection (apart from capping) and i'm in the same area as you... What UBR are you on? And what modem are you using?

I'm on ubr 12, using a surfboard sb5100, it's nothing to do with my modem though. Are you on the 20mb?

Between 3pm - 11pm the internet crawls and is unstable as hell (not due to capping). Late into the night and early morning i'm flying along at 2.3MB/s, but as soon as more people are obviously on the net it goes to shit Sad.

Hopefully with the 50mb coming they will need to put in some major new kit, which will hopefully take the strain off the overloaded ubr's, well... mine at least Razz .

I don't get those problems here, Then again. I'm not on your UBR so that would explain it.

As far as I know they are upgrading the network, However its only because they know there is a flaw in the STM system and non-legit users are taking advantage of it. Rolling Eyes

Will this improve the speed of the network? I doubt it.
Would removing the cap and going back to 10Mbit? Yes.

You're happy about 50mb? o.O

We've had 100 for like 4 years now... I'm wanting the gigabit here... Razz (Yes, Sweden is better than you)

I also think fisk should be unbanned.

They need to sort out the appaling '20 meg' (Ha Ha fucking Ha) before they even attempt anything else. Its just a gimmick to attract more customers, as of course they are leaving in thier droves due to the terrible speeds/customer service and total lack of tech support..

Like I said, I get 2.35mb/sec all the time from giganews unless I'm occasionally capped during the period. Which in my mind is fine.

Couldn't have said it better myself, it's basically a dick waving contest because customers get turned on by big numbers Rolling Eyes . It reminds me of places like PC World where customers see a shitty computer other than "3.8GHZ OF SPEED!" and snap it up like candy Razz .

Though since first posting in this thread my internet has been pretty good and consistent... I think they're watching me Question .

My brain couldn't comprehend having a 50mb line, it's like whoa!

I guess I'm perfectly happy with my 10/1 - just requires a tiny bit of patience.

Same here -- pretty happy at 10/1, the upload is finally decent enough to host a teamspeak server, or host a game for me and a friend to play in.

HOLY OLD THREAD BATMAN!

So it seems Virgin have now started to limit newsgroup download speeds (only noticed it a few days ago).. If you have the same issue move to using 443 rather than 563.

Edit: I like VM, no other company would be able to provide me with 30Mb download speeds. 50Mb has no download/upload amount restrictions.

I used usenet on a Virgin Media National (ADSL) line before moving to where I am now a few months ago. National always had slow download speeds unless I used port 443, and then when I got VM cable my speeds were less than 700KB even with using SSL, without SSL speeds were ridiculously slow. I have started using torrents again.. 3.6MB download speeds.

I've never experianced throttling on my Virgin 50Mbps. I do know that on anyting less then the 100/50mbps packages they do throttle though. No other company provides 100mbps service right now either. The most you can get through anyone else typically is BT Infinity 44Mbps.

Im on BT Infinity 40mb down, 10mb up and totally unlimited, speed isnt throttled on anything.

Speed should be increasing next year on this fiber optic so I hope it reaches 100mb.

Well I am on BT Infinity, and worked for BT up until 6 months ago. We / they do / did throttle, once you hit a certain amount of traffic they'd limit your line somewhat.

For example, unthrottled, I get 40meg down on my BT line. Between 4-8pm, if i've been downloading heavily recently, i'll get 4meg

I dont care though, I just leave it queued and let it download fast overnight.

I too am thinking about jumping to VM... just because the whole package is cheaper (providing I want sports inc. espn...)

Yeah I am with Virgin and the 20MB has always been crap, when they offered me 30MB for £30 one off fee, I told them " how about you sort out the 20MB first ".
