The only relatively realistic one I can think of is X-Plane [ http://www.x-plane.com/ ]. If anyone has a better (as in more realistic) I'd like to know of it too.

oh yeah... good ol longbow 1 and 2 Wink

they're definately the best military heli sims out there... if you're looking for a bit more action-orientated helisim game check out gunship from microspot... I don't know if it was gunship 2 or 3.

and for good looking action arcade helisim, comanche 4 is the game.

i have looked high and low for the best helo game on PC, and my vote goes hands down for Comanche4. it is a little too arcadish for some, but i found it to be a blast. it also sports a great co-op mode, so there you go.

superb graphics and special effects, as well.

Ok thanks for your replies and suggestions, will try and check a few of them out Wink .

JBrow: BF1942/DC & BFV/POE are what I've been playing lots of and I like flying the choppers on there but it gets a bit boring after a while when just flying plus playing online on public servers sucks sometimes, everyone rushes for the choppers and half them can't fly.....

Was thinking of MS Flight Simulator but didn't know if they had helicopters on their? tbh was kinda wanting a realistic simulator (not RC), graphics aren't that important for me and I'm not too fussed about combat either, don't even have a joystick lol but it's something I'd like to try, hence looking into it now Very Happy .

BF1942 mods (DC) doesnt even come close to realistic heli flying....
FS2004 is the best if you want to fly civilian choppers

sim copter Razz

before I forget... there are quite a lot of games where you play as a pilot of a rescue heli... some of them are quite realistic, missions are fun as well since you have rescue missions in mountains, cities etc. I don't know the names of the sims atm, they're actually low budget productions, but they're not that bad. Only graphics suck, gameplay is ok.

Well I really like Comanche 4 for some quick arcade gaming. It's definately no real simulation of a helo flight but it's a helo game.

the helicopters in FS are not very realistic, because they swing all over the place.
eg if you roll left, then centre the stick you will return to centre....
same with the rudder, its just really annoying.

The helicopters in DC are pretty good!

You could try Apache Longbow Assualt. You can check it out here http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/apachelongbowassault/index.html?q=apache. Here's a little info about it:

"It gracefully steers the fine line between serious sim and all-out action game and features some attractive visuals and immersive sound effects. While Apache Longbow Assault suffers from a no-frills campaign and a lack of other game modes, it still offers plenty of exciting combat while letting you fly one of the most powerful helicopters yet built."

No, actually FS models helicopters pretty good, and DC doesn absolutly not, DC is arcade FS is simulation, and trust me i have been behind the stick in real life

Enemy Engaged: Comanche vs. Hokum is pretty good for a combat helo sim.

Search & Rescue: Coastal Heros is actually pretty good as well for a non-combat sim.

Thanks again,

I know flying choppers in the Battlefield games will be nothing like a simulation but that's what has made me think about looking for a sim to try Very Happy

I can get FS2004 for 29.99 which is a lot cheaper than i thought so that's a start (and yes I buy games Laughing )

I briefly remember Thunderhawk on the PS1 and some of the suggested games look to along similar lines and of course much better being on the pc Wink , that's also made me remember those other 'copter games (there were a few of them) where you scrolled diagnally up down left right picking up ammo and crates destroying things Shocked Confused forgot the name anyway but that's getting off track.....

What about a decent joystick with throttle and rudder controls then? can anyone recommend one for under £50

I liked this one:

You have to destroy balloons with your Rotor and stuff like that.
Pretty little sim Smile

It's fun and challenging... don't judge it by the kiddie-graphics Wink

That game is fun. I had a blast with it, especially when using shutter glasses. When you take a look at a chopper from the back you could swear that the rotor is coming out from the screen.

Were those games ever released? I could not find any info.
