Really enjoying this game now I've got past the first bit where you've got to get a potion for triss. Opens up more after that. Best RPG I've played in a while on PC..

I had this problem. Turning off 'depth of field' solved it (I think that's what the option is called). This stops it trying to do dodgy blur effects to soft-focus the background during cut-scenes.

Once you start you won't stop, this game is long as hell. I'm barely into the story and I spent 3 hours a lone on some side quests and exploring.

Anybody know exactly what the 1.1 patch does? As far as i can tell, the only thing it changed for me is i can't slice people into pieces anymore.... I played the first bit at the castle unpatched and severed/removed multiple limbs. I played the same spot again patched, haven't removed any. Does the patch just censor more shit?

Beware about too early perforance impressions! If you just started the game the performance maybe OK in chapter 1 and 2 - but in chapter 3 you get access to an area with far higher requirements (due to lots of NPCs walking in the streets). I was reading in other forums that many players were upset about the performance loss there and for some it even ruined the game due to permanent stuttering and even longer loading times.
I arrived in this area myself now and even its not as bad as expected the fps loss is noticible, but I had luck with my 512mb video ram its still well playable.

Turn the view distance down, if necessary...

Very true, the Vizima market district gets very unreasonable in terms of smoothness of transitions, very fast. It maybe the fact that I am running it on Vista and it wasn't tested properly on this OS(not a big surprise, considering what few pennies Atari has left for QA these days) but whatever the reason, I advise ppl to wait for a patch before playing through. Right now I am chapter 3(or right before, forgot) and the game randomly crashes during the exponentially longer loading times. I can't imagine what ppl on lesser machines that don't defrag as often run into. Anyways game is on permanent rest until this gets fixed, as to not ruin the experience.

Hopefully this crashing/load time crap is just related to a memory leak(seems to happen the longer I play) and gets resolved in a patch soon. I am really looking forward to continuing my adventure in the awesome landscape in which the game takes place.

I have to same problem as you on a much less powerful machine (Athlon64 3200 + , 1 gig ram , 6800GT).The first two chapters were running pretty decent on everything on medium with no AA (don't need it anyway there are almost no jaggies at 1440 x 900) and 2 x AF.Never crashed once in 1 & 2.I'm on XP btw so i don't think that it's Vista related.

Even though there is indeed a noticeable framedrop in chapt 3 , the game is still playable enough on my rig but the biggest problem are the random crashes.Like you said it does seems to be a memory leak problem.because it happen too randomly. It wouldn't be an issue if the loading times were shorter but now it's just too annoying.I will wait for a patch as well because other than that the game is just awesome. One of the best RPG i have played in a long long time.

well... on high settings, this game kicks my ass as much as crysis does...

so far... hmmm... im not very far in... the fights... ok i get it, flaming sword = mouse 1 again = continue combo... but its the same set of movies over and over again... as you progress, do you get better combos? like chain 1 = better combo, chain 2 = more savage combo, chain 3 = super badassed combo etc, or is this all there is?

i also expected more blood Sad

but yeah, so far i can see the potential so ill keep playing... controls take a bit of getting used too..

As you progress I've noticed he started using different combo's, not sure if it's the progression of a sword skill or what.

Also get gets a bit bloodier once you figure out how to do fatalities Wink Theres also slash marks that appear on the bodies most of the time.

When going from x1900xt to 8800gt the loading was cut to half at least!

(So, it wasn't the sata 2 hdd's speed, it was the gpu loading textures that slowed down things )

Hot damn do I love these guys. Glad to see Atari not being smuts like they used to be and actually supporting them. Maybe this could be their wakeup call to not sucking dick.

Well if you like RPG's you'll certainly like it.

The beginning does suck a bit, it's like your first taste of beer, takes you a bit to become attached (assuming you didnt like it at first). It's pretty much a un sucky tutorial on how to get used to shit so it'll be a bit boring and I guarantee you won't like the combat system at first till it grows on you then you kinda...don't even notice it anymore even while your using it.

The awesomeness begins after the castle.

The EU version isn't censored but as I posted a few pages back alot of the dialogue has been cut down for some reason which is why some people find it a little inconsistent or dislodged since some parts don't make much sense or give a totally different meaning than intended.

Geralt doesn't remember much from what happened five years ago since he lost his memory in those events, it's partly explained at the ending of the books what happened and you learn about it during various sidequests or trough conversations with certain characters.

And yes alot has been said about the way the game handles females or the level of nudity and those cards you "collect" but that's how it was portrayed in the books which is what the game is based upon and personally I don't think it's a issue at all.
(Not really anything explict or so in those images, more like soft erotica similar to classical drawings or art.)

by 'a lot of dialogue cut down' do you mean that pieces of the game have been edited down from what they originally were, or do you mean dialogue and things have been lost when converting from books to game?

Here's the thread that discusses the shortened dialog in the game, also has a few examples on the first two pages.

EDIT: This was also interesting but I haven't tested it myself.

oh come on, it can hardly be concidered any kind of spoiler if it happens in the first 20 minutes of play ffs.

---------

so just to clarify one thing, does this mean there is no perfect english release? what version do the uncut dialogue come from? its a bit late over here so im probably missing the answer if its on that page you linked me too.

It was explained a few pages into the thread I linked to, there were so much text in the game and there's a bit of a difference in how you say things in English or Polish as the original version of the game is in Polish so certain changes were made and I still think it works OK and in general it's a good translation but ofcourse it would be interesting to have the unedited version, atleast for the subtitles.

I also added a edit with a link to the post where some people are experimenting with the INI file to bring back the original text but I don't know if it will have any effect as I haven't tested it yet.
