Being a person who doesn't care about big reviews, I have to be honest. I was kind of scared when I saw the posts of people who had finished the game that were trashing it. I was hoping it was just because it's easy to hate what's popular and overhyped. And I'm not saying that's the case here at all, but yesterday I spent the day finishing up the game and I can honestly say it's the best single player fps I've ever played. It was epic as fuck. It was like being in control of a big budget over the top sci-fi movie. People said the ending sucked. The ending was a cliffhanger. Cliffhangers are supposed to leave you wanting more. And regardless of it being a cliffhanger it was still the most intense ending of any game I've played. As soon as I finished it I felt like beating it all over again. Now I haven't played the full version of CoD4. I just beat the demo. So I can't really judge it. But in the demo I felt really bored. I was about to stop playing right before I realized the demo was over. I just think there is so much more to Crysis than any other fps. The ways you can go about accomplishing your goals are endless. Well not endless. But there's a lot more to it than shooting people, picking up new guns, and shooting more people. And the levels are unlike any levels I've ever played. Nobody would dare to even try to create some of the things Crytek managed to create. It's good though. They're raising the bar. In a year or so first person shooters will be laughable if they don't have the physics or destructable, interactive environments that Crysis has. But yeah. This is just my opinion. Make fun of me for liking a game that is way overhyped. I'm soooooo a Crytek fanboy.

Hearing people talking about it being epic
Since you actually posted something worth reading I guess I'll give it a 2nd try and play through it to see what this epic talk is all about. Would have gotten further had I not gotten that show stopping bug.

I also think TimeShift should have been included in this choice, because its at least as good as CoD4 or Crysis in my opinion. Especially because it has the longest-lasting campaign of all these shooters.
Crysis is basically like "FarCry - The Next Generation". But CoD4 shows that it is not necessary to require ultra-hardware for a very good shooter experience with extraordinary graphics. It runs well even on my old 7800GS. Thats why I like it more, even if its design suffers from the same minor problems like the other CoD games.

yeah comments like crysis sucks ass without justification doesn't mean shit I mean come on guys if your gonna compare one to the other & say one is bad & the other isn't at lease give concrete reasons to why you think its good or no good.
I sum both games up like this as they are both excellent games.
Crysis = Predator
COD4 = Black Hawk Down
that's if I were to compare it to any movie out there on the market.

Kinda hard to get the point out when fanboys start throwing a fit.
Crysis:
Pro:
-Running on great engine
-Play how you want (including gun customizing, use of suit or not, find your path)
-I got to shoot a tree down, and a car blew up in my face cause I punched the door.
-Drive any vehicle
-Loads of different game difficulties
-Cool guns.
-Map design was really cool
Cons:
-Story is shallow.
-Gameplay is really slow and boring. GR was slow too but you had to be careful what you did or you'd be shot to hell. With such a huge environment, they have too few baddies.
-Suit ruins it, energy restores WAY to fast and so does health, making it impossible to die.
-AI is beyond stupid as hell.
COD4
Pros:
-Engaging story.
-Combat was plentyful, hardcore, and VERY intense, especially later on. I had to take aspirin cause I was getting so into it.
-Ally AI wasn't as dumb as in other.
-Immersion. The single most important feature of anygame, you really feel your there or you can lose touch of the reality around you.
-Beautiful map desin outside of the rail part you walk down.
-Interactive missions is the best way I could think of to put it. Jumping inside a helicopter manning the gun. Controlling the gunship. Having to carry your sniper buddy through a mission cause he gets fucked up.
Cons:
-Guns sound like cheap fisher price airsoft guns.
-Enemy Spawning is outrageous sometimes, 40 guys come out of a dead end room? Seriously cmon.
-Some instances were really cheap and unreal like the sniper mission when your running behind the baddies and crawling under the trucks.
-Linear paths, but doing this also allows the dev's to controle the environment
All in all while I'm a huge fanboy of crytek and their superb engine. The game was nothign but a tech demo to show what the engine was capable of. The story and gameplay were simply weak and I near fell asleep when playing. Run up, pop two guys in the head, walk 3 miles till the next guy. COD4 really draws you into the game and doesn't want you to get bored, you simply pick your guns and start firing off rounds. COD4 is more than that, take cover your you'll die, and have to start over, you may have to wait for for health like crysis but not fast regen of god and shield. COD also offers missions to take you out of combat and have fun like letting you contol the guns on a circling gunship. Then throws your back into mission.
I guess if people like slow boring shoot someone every few minutes kinda games then hey, whatever. Fact is though, hte best video games are the ones you can get lost in, which is why I'll be buying COD4 and not Crysis (that and I refuse to buy any game with an EA logo on it)

CoD is intense and script-laden.
Crysis is free-form and cinematic.
I am tired of the same old CoD formula and the demo didn't persuade me otherwise. I really dig free-form games and Crysis is at the moment on the top of my list. Next game I'm hankering for? GTA4 and maybe Assassin's Creed (PC).

I would say its matter of intelligence you poses. Only a stupid person can say that COD4 has bettar gfx. Here is an example. Climb on mountain in Crysis take a look around. Take binocs out and check youre surroundings. Every place you see you can go there, world doesnt loose detail, you can check on enemy and what they are doing, you can watch birds ffs and shoot them. In cod you have engine that renders small surroundings with linear path. Can you people comprehend the difference? Im not going into gameplay part because these game have nothing in common. COD - you run around in linear path surrounded by buildings and enemys spawning around you and shooting. CRYSIS - You run around in open space and you do what you like, approach every target the way you like. So gameplay is different and it appeals to different kind of people.

Why? Because you say so? Im sorry but not all people like to play their games in linear path with no options. If i liked games like COD i would buy console and play Halo, GOW and other crap where only thing you can do is what dude that made lvl had in mind. I like to use my brain and decide for myself how im gona do the objective. I know most people are not capable of that and thats ok. If it were not that way then so many classics wouldnt be made.

Oh come on---Who is actually interested in a rigid shooter these days with a crappy story?
Crysis might be nothing special but at least it's pretty
COD4 is like is like 2001 gameplay and the story is awful, Written by some tom clancy wannabe.
COD Multiplayer is meh, Shoot, grenade, run, repeat.
Burn them all Adolf
