nah the problem was never fixed, it's just not possible to fix because of the sound engine they were using. there were other sound problems too which might have been fixed (like skipping sound) but the performance issue was always there, just not for a lot of people.

Well maybe some specific sound cards and motherboards have some issues, but you can't fix everything... anyway the number of sound issues now is really much smaller as it was in february when supcom was released.

i had some problems with fatality sb too, but i updated my asus bios, and everything was fixed, nice smooth, no problems.

yeah.. I remember reading on the forums that just updating some drivers and stuff or reducing sound hardware acceleration on certain sound cards solved the performance problem. unfortunately none of that stuff helped me.

anyway, it's running ok now with a dual core cpu even with sound on.

I wonder if the campaign here is gonna be a bit more polished than the one in supreme commander.

I sure hope they got some better voice acting. in SC it was like every female character was voiced by the same person, and every male character by another person.
was so weird to hear an enemy commander talking some crap and then you hear an allied commander talking with exactly the same voice. they tried to make their voices sound a little different but it was pretty obvious.

Buy the new 8800gt instead or wait a few days for the G92 based 8800gts.

Otherwise, you'll realise you just wasted your money, as 8800gt is cheaper + better than 8800gts 640.

mm disapointed seems just as dull as the original ,have played rts's since herzog zwei and dune 2 made the mould, loved TA hated TA kingdoms and thought Sup Com was just like bioshock , lazy and just new clothes over the same old body.

And "this core group of followers pish" claiming that sup com is more tactical or has less micromanagement than other RTS is bollox it is still primarly about resource gathering and building units, the Sp game was dull and nothing new and MP was and is full of bugs.

I was hoping the Supcom would have been more like the Total war model and moved away from the boring aspects the plauge most RTS's, and kept resouce management out of battles sadly like most rts it still resembles DUNE 2 .

Dude, there is other games out there to choose from-lots Exactly like that...tons actually. WIC sounds right up yer alley. Sorry but if the devs wanted their opinion on their game(glad they didn't) they would have asked. Anyways there is something to be said about sticking to the same formula, why fix what isn't broken?

I'll buy this because Supreme Commander is the best rts to date, and it proves that you can target a niche audience; primarily fans of the original Total Annihilation and not just go for the widest target audience as possible which seems to be what everybody is striving for these days.

agreed 100%. I hate most of the other RTS' but love SupCom. I guess all the whining babies in here got beaten by the built-in AI (that, on a side note, has the intelligence of a dust mite) and simply can't handle RTS that allow and even require you to develop IN DEPTH strategies to beat a good player.

If you do not use tactics and strategy (only build -> kill, build -> kill), then this is YOUR problem. Lots of players have no tactical or strategic thinking, they just "play" the game.

Its like driving car in first gear and saying that it is slow.... problem is with YOU and not game Wink

Buy original game and play on gpgnet and you'll see the whole new picture. Single Player missions - total crap, they show nothing about the game. I dont even bother playing them.

Some of you may or may not be aware that for the first Supreme Commander there was a thriving Hamachi community for this

Then most of the people (myself included) bough the game and moved to gpgnet

In the effort to make this wonderful game known to the casual gamer and make him enjoy where it really shines here are some hamachi networks u can join

First of all u need hamachi (google for it, free version is fine)

Then u need to join some of those netwrok (case sensitive)

Supreme Commander FM1 (pass 123)
supremepro (pass 123)
extreme sc (pass 123)
extreme sc2 (pass 123)

For how hamachi works it would be a good thing to LEAVE a network before logging out , and re-join them at each login

Let me stress this enough, this is something just resurrected, it may be u can't find anyone online, just stick with it and wait and spread the word!

Just played a game, the game really improved on the original supreme commander.
As usual playing campaign is a totally worthless experience and doesn't teach u how to really play it (though the first mission is well done i must say)

Find a bunch of friends and play it over lan, if u can't join hamachi and try it there .
Then either stick with hamachi or if you really like it buy it and go on gpgnet

did they make the built in AI stronger? It didn't pose any challenge to a somewhat experienced player in SupCom.

the missions in this expansion are fun, I like the balance changes as well.

very nice overall, now the only thing that sucks is that just like the original game it runs like shit on a little older single core CPUs that do well in everything else.

2 friends of mine still have their athlon 64 cpus which are still good enough for most games, but in supreme commander they suck big time.

the single player campaign is pretty much unplayable for them because of the massive amount of units fighting at all times in every mission.

Are you talking about skirmish or campaign? I started campaign on hard and AI looks just the same to me. Wave after wave until you make strong enough defence and start building assault to crush him, then map expands, some scripted attack, then repeat procedure till next map expand.
Oh, and my old trick still works, where you wait just little before you finish first part of objectives and build huge amount of experimental units that take care of anything in later stages of mission .

Yes, but only in the bigger maps. When the map expands to full size in the campaign for instance, it sucks up all your video card and machine memory.

This game is mostly bottlenecked by CPU. If I had a C2D, my X1900XT would give me a much better framerate and the simspeed would improve a lot. Alas, I'm stuck on this X2 3800.

talking about the skrimish AI.

I'm pretty sure a 1800 player would eat the "extremely difficult" AI (I think that's what they call it LOL) for breakfast. I'm not playing ranked games because I'd get my butt kicked so bad, but that AI is much worse than Sorian's mod imo.
