EA is the king of illusion. There hasn't been a game they didn't over hype

what is wrong with you people? crysis looks awesome, even compared to that old video in that screenshot comparison that Sin posted.

crysis is the best looking game in existence right now and still everyone complains, I just don't get it.

why are you bothering. who cares what they think? they blast teh game for having unoriginal gameplay, but i find it much more refreshing than half the shit thats come out lately... rip into its 'shit' graphics, but you must be blind or just bitter because your pc sucks... only legit complaint ive seen so far is the ai, which i admit plain sucks... had one guy who kept backing towards me in a crouch while i was shooting him... but gameplay and graphics complaints you can just tell are from people trying to bash the game for no good reason... why bother talking to them or trying to change their minds? who cares what they think.

I bet one can recreate the old jungle fight video in the editor 1:1.

It is because ppl are STILL buying into outrageous hype and thus think a hyped game is gonna be some orgasmic experience or something. The fact that every publisher, developer, employee makes their newest game out to be a new religion is pretty old but somehow certain ppl are still getting deluded.
Anyways, for a FPS it is perfection if you ignore the hype and play the game for itself, plus like the sort of game it is, and invest a bit in your puter from time to time. Other ppl just wont be satisfied, no matter how good the game is.

i hate to be on this bandwagon, but i'm old enough to be on it now. graphics not equal fun game. graphics not equal a theme i'll enjoy. all graphics usually means actually is that it plays out like every other epic fps that's tried to go the graphics route, with their own little hook.

hype is two ways... it only works if YOU buy into it. if you dont let the shit bother you, and take the game based on its own merits, then i dont see what the problem is... people who just instinctively hate and shit on a game just because the publishers over hype it, are just petty fucking idiots really.

I didn't say I hate the game. I said it's not for my tastes and I feel 100% sure about that. Of course there will be millions who will buy it based on hype or not, but don't think it has to be everyone. Even hardcore gamers.
And people who like crysis so much should stop insulting those that don't LIKE it(watch the phrase: don't like it, not hate it).
P.S: for the third time, gfx rocks!

What bothers me about the differences in what Crytek promised and what we're getting is... well, just that. They've promised something all along that it would be the most realistic game ever and showed those (pre-rendered?) movies that everyone got so excited about. Now, the demo has been released and it simply doesn't live up to the hype that Crytek pushed on everyone.
I think the game looks great, but it is still misrepresentation when you have these super high quality videos coming out from the developer while they say *THIS* is what the game is going to look like.
The actual product does not deliver.
Perhaps there are some tweaks and things in the engine (which have been made inaccesable (to those who don't hack into the engine)) that no computer you could buy today would be able to reproduce, and they've future-proofed their development. I sure hope so. I hope those jungle scene videos that look so lush and smooth are capable with that engine. I'd love to see it.
Eventually, those pre-rendered (if indeed they are) videos will be real-time. Crytek hyped them as being possible *now*...

Tydirium brought another issue: other good games. And this specific period we get/got a lot of good games. So, it's not like there is nothing to spend your time besides crysis.
Maybe if this was the only good game at this specific period, then yes.

If you are not ready and able to spend at least ~2000 bucks for a new system its completely pointless even considering to buy this game or get a scene release. I made exactly this experience with FarCry some years ago.
I will wait at least one year, then the game may be priced at 10-20 bucks and the required hardware about ~500.
Beside the hype - this game is still a "normal" 3D shooter. Until then there are enough good shooting titles out there to waste my time - which are running well on actual systems |
My Machine only cost about $1,300. It would be almost 400 cheaper now by getting a 8800GT and a diff processor.

I upgraded a New mobo, 2 gig memory, AM2 Athlon 64 6000 + Dual Core 3.0GHz and nvidia 8800gt for just £380, kept same case and everything else..
so no you don't need $2000!
I can run all setting high some very high 25-35fps

I don't see why people say this needs a super PC.
I think people are way used to play at resolutions way above 720p.
Fact is for instance in consoles this resolution is pretty much the standard.
What we may say is that up until now most games didn't push our graphics cards as crysis does.
What we may also say is that many people in the rush to have a Crysis ready PC have upgraded in the last Summer and are now going to miss out on the price drops and the just to be released hardware.
Fact is we now have a pretty high-end graphics card at very affordable prices (geforce 8800gt).
And the gts is just around the corner.
If you take all this into count you can get a pretty good PC running Crysis at High (and this setting is already quite above most games out there), for about $500.
Just check this out
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/$500_gaming_pc_upgrade/
With only $500 you can get a pretty nice rig to run games such as Crysis. And if you want even better performance you can dish even more money and get an SLI system for instances.
Hell ill bet anyone willing to spend $1000 or $1500 for a system will be able to get into the Very High settings at 720p with very good fps
But for $500 you get a system that surpasses consoles by a big margin. With all the options and all that.
Call of Duty 4 will run great with all settings on,with AA with AF all that.
Unreal Tournament 3 will run great with all settings on,with AA with AF all that.
All with graphics as good as the top consoles and on higher resolutions than what the console version is capable of.
With just $500 you get the best graphics for any system out there. plus the freedom and options available traditionally on a PC.
Tell me thus Crysis look bad at High settings?

Surray don't you get IT , the first screen its from a pre-rendered trailer JUST LIKE KILLZONE2
and the second its a real in-game shot , we talk about that EA loves to shape the reality with pre-renders and photoshop

Killzone render was less high quality than Crysis one, although both deserve slapping.

Comet, the problem is because we all talk about gfx, performance and physics. I can run the game at high settings with playable frames without tweaking anything. That's not the problem. The problem is people like me don't feel obliged to like crysis as much as others do.

Its not about obliging. I see it these days that there is a divide when a game like this comes out. It consists of this:
group A: consists of people who like the game
group B: people who are neutral to the game but the hype is pulling them in
group B1: people who are neutral to the game, some likes, some dislikes.
group C: people who dislike the game
group D: people who are anti-the game because its hyped, and make a huge deal about not liking the game
group E: people who bash any game that comes out because of the format its on, IE console wars, and if its on PC, they compare it to their fave game and if its not better it is instantly shit, if it is better its instantly "over hyped" or "over rated".
Groups below C tend to not even give the game a try before the bashing commences
