I'm not a real fan of the second SW trilogy, but comparing this shit to any of the SW films (yes, even to the awful Ep1) is "wtf mate," and ffs, I'm not a film snob, I just have standards. Rolling Eyes

Standards that You and Chiv are juxtaposed with the 93k+ users of IMDB that have expressed their opinion and given a fairly solid 7.7/10

I have standards myself, I hate Stephen Segal films, Epic Movie and Delta Farce for example. I know a shit film when I see one and Transformers is far from it.

The film wasn't about some guy looking to fuck a good looking chick, it was about robots (In disguise) with a love interest sub plot (much like Star Wars)

imdb is full of retard kiddies that give any new flashy shit 10/10, so the score there means sweet fuck all.

I don't think it was terrible, but a very average movie.

Strange logic, if one can call it that, to assume that if 93k+ users like something then we all should by default like it too. In that case omfg what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be buying an iphone or the newest shiny thing a million+ people are queuing up for? Razz

I've watched and liked films that are rated very low on imdb and regretted watching some highly-rated films. That actually says more about the average imdb user than it does about me.

+1 or +93k if you want Very Happy

And every movie regardless of rating has a comment 'omg this is the best/worst movie ever'. Rolling Eyes And imdb is supposed to have this top secret formula for calculating ratings that takes the extreme scores into account but it just can't fight the wave of AOL users who can make or break any internet site nowadays. Look at the absurd values quoted for sites like facebook and myspace.

The fact that the thread for this silly little movie has gone on for 10+ pages just shows that things don't have to be good to successful. They just have to appeal to a certain group with a critical mass and intrinsic merit be damned.

93,000 people that's bigger than the biggest football stadium will hold, all taking their time to vote. That is a hell of a cross section of the public, which is why IMDB is well regarded. Big WOW that a few people that can't like something because it's seen as too mainstream come on forums such as this and start hammering something for the sake of it. I watched it, I liked it, its great. I am not 12, I have seen more movies than I care to count. I class Citizen Kane, 12 Angry men, Withnail and I, Godfather2, the Usual suspects, Seven Saumurai, City of God and Vertigo in my top 20. I love films and this one is FUN

for shits sake, as ive said, the rating is so high because a: lets face it, weve been surrounded by crap this year so transformers looks much nicer, and b: the ratings are for the fucking visuals for shit sake... look at spiderman 2... pretty good rating, but dont dare tell me that was a good film. people rate on fanboy'ism and visuals.

im not saying the film is pure rubbish, the visuals make it enjoyable for the most part, but its not a GOOD film, and definately not a great film, unless you have the standards of a sweaty 13 year old.

cut about 110 minutes out of the film, and then it would have been great.

and yeah freon, like i said before, that comic sums up the movie perfectly. that line "...wait, did the black robot die?" line cracks me up every time... sucks how they turned jazz into a fucking rapping gangsta nigga, from the cool badass he used to be...

...then i guess that makes you a drone or a sheep for mindlessly following the pack then?

a bad movie is a bad movie, no matter how overinflated the review score is thanks to fanboys or those who rate it so highly because they have no standards or think "CGI is the only important thing in the movie!!!"

your right, a bad opinion is a bad opinion, thats what ive been trying to tell you about your rating of the film.

and crank certainly had better characters/dialogue/story than transformers did.

i will say in the films favour that it did have a pretty good score. i just dont see how you can really enjoy a film that is completely devoid of any interesting or well done characters, bad dialogue, a poor story, and very little action content in what SHOULD be an action film - a 20-minute action piece at the end, and 1 or 2 random minutes every now and then in an almost 2 and a half hour movie, does not make an action film.

ill never understand why people rip on anderson... as a director he is really talented, he has a great eye. his films suffer because the guy insists on writing the scripts, and he just flat out sucks at that... so as a director hes great, but as a writer he sucks... proof of his directing skill should be apparent... even though his films have horrible scripts/dialogues/characters, the movies themselves are still worth seeing... resident evil pissed off the hardcore fans, but im not an RE fan, so i found the movie passable... avp pissed me off because im an aliens fan, but even i can accept that the design and direction was good... event horizon rocked, and that was because he didnt write it... soldier was a great movie too, and fuck anyone who says mortal kombat wasnt one of the better videogame movies... great soundtrack, director, and fight choreography... if it ever came out on hd, id probably buy it.

SO, you like Soldier, resident evil, Crank and Mortal Kombat but you think Transformers is the biggest pile of shit ever created!

I'm rapidly losing all respect for you.

never said it was the biggest pile of shit ever created. the characters, story, dialogue etc were very poor in the movie... the only thing good in it was the cgi and the score, and the 20 or so minutes of action at the end..

soldier, re, crank, and mortal kombat all also had crap story, dialogue etc, but atleast they had good amounts of action in proportion to their length, and less cheese than transformers did.

the best thing about transformers in general were the characters. the original series was great because the characters, not because of the storylines or dialogue, which tended to be cheesy... g1 managed to solidly define and create interesting and great characters in the first 20 minute episode! this movie couldnt even do that for only FIVE characters in a full 2 and a half hours! the only character that had any depth and generated any sympathy was bumblebee...

when optimus died in g1, that was epic and saddening... had optimus been ripped to shreds in this movie, youd be hard pressed to find anyone who would have even cared... thats just pathetic given how much of an epic character he is SUPPOSED to be.

this movie was never anything more than a cash-in on a franchise (that ill admit HAS been milked to death, so i cant really hold this against bay) with some impressive cgi thrown in to attract viewer attention away from what is otherwise an incredibly hollow and soulless film.

like i said before, you want to see a GREAT transformers film, go rent transformers the movie. If your not being biased and arent a film viewer who is only concerned with 'pretty pictures', then im sure even you would admit just how poor this movie is in comparison when you look at the films in their entirety.
