Must say, I'm also a bit disappointed. I installed a wiikey about 2 weeks ago in my console, after much trying, as it was my first time soldering... was happy with it, but now only 2 weeks later a new protection scheme comes up which they do not seem to have a very good answer to.
Also: i looked at that D2C modchip, and must say, I do not think I am able to solder something with so many tiny soldering points (without ruining my wii that is). Even that cyclowiz has a lot more soldering points than a wiikey and seems to be detected in that new protection scheme....
What I am really hoping for is that they just release an image of the game with the protection cracked out (which is what I think the 'easiest' to do if they already know how it works?)

seems unlikely, at least atm.
game code is in encrypted area and the encryption has not been cracked/hacked yet.

ah, didn't know they used encryption on wii game code..thought protection of the wii console was more situated in hardware protection (which is in turn circumvented using modding)

japanese release also has the same protection. I am wondering if it comes out in PAL territory and I buy it, if it will still stop functioning because of my wiikey... does anyone know?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I read somewhere that it would work!

would be very surpising.... that would mean if one could make a perfect clone of the original disc, the copy protection would be circumvented. I read what you are saying too on a forum btw, just don't know if the person saying it was stating it from firsthand experience (i highly doubt it)

Nope cause the reason that the original works is that when an original disc is inserted the chip is not activated. Only when a dvd-r og +r is inserted the modchip kicks in..

I still need to download the SMG iso... when it's in I am able to test on PAL wii... Though I heard US SMG iso does not run on PAL Wii with cyclowiz or d2c modchip

well some say it will work on pal but gives u duplicate weather and news channels but we will see in minutes.. ill give a shout when i have checked it out for myself... got a wiikey original here.
