WTF the bunch of you who are comparing this to Oblivion or though it was gonna be like oblivion are a bunch of douche bags who dont know how to read up on a game & live in a world lacking any kind of common sense. running this game at 1920x1200 everything to the titties...not a hitch...speaking of titties the chick in the beginning has nice ones hahaha. well blunt time & back to indulging in this dark & delightfull rpg.

Why do you have to compare it to other games at all? I'm playing it and having fun that's all that matters to me. Can you only have fun in a game if it's better than another one?

I agree that every game has its own unique features. But when you have sth already recognised as top (Morrowind, Oblivion) and you see those dozens of features I mentioned MISSINGb ( some of which are critical), you definitely get disappointed.
I didn't say I thought it was going to be like Oblivion, but one would expect at least some pretty basic features from a 2007 rpg game.

The witcher is titled ACTION rpg, where the emphasis is more on the fighting, although the amount of dialogue and depth impresses me.
Oblivion was shallow for a rpg, laughable dialogues, story?,LOADS of boring dungeon(one dev even said something like there being over 200 dungeons/caves...yay,game saved),models were bad(faces were awful too),the whole freeroaming is what made the game feel so shallow. Too much freedom in the game hinders the story(if you don't know why, then it's up to you to find out).
If the devs didn't see the need for you to swim, sneak, steal or walk then what is the problem? just enjoy it as it is.

Whoa haha, check out the fanboys. If the game is so freaking awesome, gazillion times better than oblivion, what are you doing on this boards arguing you should be enjoying the game.
Relax fanboys, havent played the game yet, stupid iso is fucked thats why DTpro crashed. Will try later, and i think i will like it.

Spoiler: | In order to save the girl I had to jump / roll(double click at the spot in isometric mode / double tap key in OTS camera mode) to the green beasts and atack in group mode. Nevertheless I always died due to the red beast. So I loaded the save in the cave with the girl and prepared two blizzard potions, spectral oil for the blade(can't remember the name) and applied it just before the exit.... As soon as the red beast appeared I used blizzard potion and rushed to the green beasts near the girl, doing the same acrobatic shit as I mention above As soon as they were gone I switched to fast mode and atacked the red beast till the green beasts respawns, here again jump / roll to them and attack in group mode... then back again to the red one and so on till he is dead... |

Just ran into my first major bug.
In Chapter 2 near the start
Spoiler: | You get a tip that a guy in an inn in vizimar temple quarter got a sword that you end up with.Iin the village before vizimar I gave the squirrels the hawkers weapons from harren, when I went to that inn in vizimar it displayed a cutscene saying those weapons were used to kill the guy that I was going to question. Anyway I talked to someone named "gambler" and it trigured the dialogue the dead guy was supposed to have. It continues the quest so I'm not sure whats gonna happen with that |
I'm not sure that was fixed in the patch or not because I didn't read the patch notes because they contain spoilers. I'm playing a game that was in chapter 1 and then patched and not restarted.

This game is good, really good. Im long into chapter 2 and it almost goes on par with the old Fallouts, just missing the freedom those games had, a game being better than oblivion is not an achievement as that game sucked horribly, even with the ridiculous amount of modifications it was mediocre at best.

Well since everyone is comparing games like idiots, THIS GAME IS TOTALLY BETTER THAN DINK SMALLWOOD!!!!
anywho..
Nice game so far, really surprised me since I hadn't followed this game one bit since I lost hope in RPG's after Two Worlds turned out like crap. Glad to finally see a game made for PC and not some dumbed down console game. Another game on my buy list.
Sad, my 7900GS KO is finally starting to show it's age It's still fighting tho

After the first part at Kaer is over, It goes to another cutscene, I wont name details but suffice to say, its basically like watching a slideshow of screenshots during the entire thing. Its ruining the game for me so I'm done playing till I can fix this, turning the graphics down helps but doesn't fix it entirely. I don't know whats causing it, because the rest of the game (The parts I can play) run fine. Well I'm going to go with my lack of ram theory and order another gig, so I will see how it works once I get it next week, as games like crysis need more ram too so I might as well get it now.

Spoiler: | This fight was extremely frustrating, a lot of the time Abigail would have kicked the bucket before I'd even got close Hadn't started on my alchemy yet either..
In the end I popped an 'unknown' potion I had which gave me bullet-time for 10 minutes or so and increased my dodge by 50% helped a lot.
I used power attacks on the Beast as I found that I couldn't outlast it by using fast ones. Managed to beat it, and keep Abigail alive... then the townsfolk attacked me, she went down /cry HOWEVER, after the fight she got straight back up again lol D'OH! |

Same could be said about win98 over 2000 or xp when they first came out. Drivers are still being worked on. Hopefully the witcher gets some attention and tlc with driver optimizations, unfortunately so many other HUGE games coming out soon so it probably will be a little lower on the priority list. Anyways I hate these kinds of ignorant generalities, especially when if you take a look at recent articles, games that have been around for awhile are actually equal in benchmarks on either xp or vista.
Core i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz | 6GB OCZ DDR3 8-8-8-24 @ 1600mhz | eVga x58 Mobo | 2 x eVga GTX 460 SLI | Intel X25-M + 3x Seagate + WD Black = 2.75TB | X-Fi Titanium | PCP&C Silencer 750 | G15 KB | G5 Mouse | G35 Headset | Z-5500 Digital | Samsung T260HD

exactly. it's time people stop bashing vista when they have no idea what they're talking about.
just check out this vista performance review from september:
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/amd_nvidia_windows_vista_driver_performance_update/default.asp
Vista and XP are pretty much equal performance wise nowadays. the differences are not even noticable anymore. 23.5 or 22.7 fps? who cares?
I'm playing the Witcher on Vista here and it's running perfectly fine with mainstream hardware.

Since when is Oblivion TOP and how in gods name can you compare Morrowind to Oblivion? Oblivion doesnt have anything that Morrowind has. Only thing that connects them is same devs. |
I love how ya all "blabla Oblivion sux but Witcher is awesome" yet nobody has a single argument other than "Oblivion had too many dungeons man, it was boring", LOL
I've mentioned 20 things and almost nobody thinks they're important. You all love the extreme guidance of Witcher, go there -do that, don't take any shortcuts, steal em all they're blind, keep running - your endurance isn't affected , run in water as fast as you run in land - Till you find a single argument to go against my 20+ things missing from the Witcher enjoy your game.
If you want just great storytelling go read a novel.
*P.s what was so funny at my question about localization referring to language translations in this game? I reckon you had a better idea about it, eh?

People complaining about this game should compare this game to another game made on this same engine - KOTOR
In Kotor - No swimming, character cannot walk, sneak, jumps only during fights, no freedom in exploring places .... and so on and STILL this game was the best RPG
People here are too spoiled from consoles with they action Rpgs that have top notch graphics and action but with no sucking you story to continue the game to the end .
