from that video its really hard to tell just how good or bad the game looks... we need to see actual first hand gameplay, not something recorded off a screen..
im half way through the second vid, and i really like how the map is handled, its quite nicely done.
i didnt like how quickly the enemy npc's found the player when he fired off that sniper round... he was covered quite well, and, again like most games, as soon as you fire a shot your pretty much exposed... unlike playing around in a multiplayer game, where everyone takes cover, but has no real idea where you are... id love to see them get that right for a change... maybe crysis perhaps? i know farcry was KINDA good at it, but the npc's still tended to have godlike perception...

one thing im REALLY loving about upcoming fps games that is blowing my mind, is the level of immersion... like in half life 2, you never 'see yourself', or any third person style events, but these games are taking that to a whole new level, like when in this you get wounded, your buddy comes in and carries you off and you see it all like you would if it were in real life...
body awareness is the next best and most important thing since ragdolls and lense flares!!
overall, yeah it does look quite cool... for some reason it didnt feel as exciting as jungle locations in farcry, but time will tell. hopefully the game will be as immersive as the guy was describing... npcs noticing tracks in the tall grass is a nice touch, but like i said previously, npc awareness is a TOUGH thing to get right... usually they are too perceptive and see you or are aware of where you are when realistically they shouldnt be, and sometimes when you try to leave marks or create distractions or whatever else that in a real life situation would give you an advantage, the npc AI doesnt react how real AI should... we are definately getting closer to good AI in games, but we aint there just yet.
side note... in regards to the fire... i wonder... if you set a fire to the dry grass, will the npc's all rush to it to try and put it out, or run over towards it to see what caused it, or will starting a fire automatically trigger 'god-awareness', and rather than it being a distraction, be a catalyst for them to automatically see and charge you wherever you are?

i like the looks of this game but its ubisoft so i will be weary untill i played the game.
atleast it has an AK-47 in it and that always makes me happy.
the option to start fires to burn your enemy's is also very sweet but i fear that might just turn out to be a gimmick.

The commentary said that the enemies will most likely spot you after the second shot, so there is hope that one shot doesn't immediately exposes you.
But we will have to wait, there are many things that can go wrong...
Anyway, ATM I have more faith in this game in terms of SP gameplay than in Crysis (which still looks really good though).

Hope it's nothing like stalker for that matter, played like 15 minutes after stalker was released and deleted because it just played soooooo bad, not fps wise that is.

Now good thing is that they dont need to develop the engine from the ground up, just add some details like perpixel lighting etc., just concentrate on the gameplay and levels and shit.

| One of the tiny details in Call of Juarez I love is the fact that, when you fall off a cliff or get knocked off your horse or whatever, you could actually see your body hitting the floor, with a few salto's and flips before the crash, through the eyes of the player

Dark Messiah was the best game until now to use that feature!

Wtf? Growing vegetation? In what context? I hope they dont mean in game while you play. Game that has 8h of gameplay cant have growing vegetation. I guess viva pinata took its toll on devs.

I highly doubt the trees grow back midfight. Its probably after a long period of time, since fire spreads they have to do something so you dont end up playing in desolate land

But lets say that you finish game in 8h. Do you know how long it takes for one tree to grow? Dont tell me you will wait 10 -20y in game on one spot for tree to grow? I think that concept of regrowing trees doesnt belong in games. For me, adding such feature is waste of time and code. Give us bettar AI goddammit.

It's probably just a cheap excuse that the trees will be there again when you reenter an area, so that it doesn't store what you destroyed...

@Nakitu :
+0,5
I partially agree, BUTT take under consideration the fact tha FY2 will be a GAME, and tis aint flight simulator or any type of simulator for that matter.
But also, why the fuck would they put such shit to a game? Is it simfarm or what?

who knows what role that will play in the game. maybe it won't even be in the final in any way.
maybe they just wanted to show what the engine can do.
it's no use complaining about something in a game that's so far from release, everything is subject to change.

everywhere I checked says Q2 2008, and considering there's no real release date set yet, I'd say it's gonna get delayed at least a couple of months.

Looks far superior to Crysis, I didn't realise they'd taken the game in such a different direction.

The only thing is: Why do they still call it "Far Cry"
It has got nothing to do with the first one as I see it:
Different setting, different characters, different engine.
Only reason I can think of is that it sells better with that name, but then again Far Cry wasn't THAT popular. It has had it's share, but it's far from being a clear cash cow only by putting the name on it...
