The regular Ice Gun shoots/spurts shards of ice at a high rate, if you buy the add-on to the right of the regular Ice Gun, it fires a long beam that freezes enemies and vehicles. While they are frozen you can hit them or pop a shot off and they shatter into pieces. Basically a convenient one hit kill, especially with a group where you can laser beam across 6 people freeze them all and if your teams in your presence they are already firing at them to begin with so as they are frozen they are shattered by everyone. (A lot of the "cheapness" involved with the gun is the other players inability to deal with it correctly, Nades, Nade Launchers, Snipers, and other one hit kill weapons work wonders but most of the Beta players are so idiotic it amazes me)
BTW, you equip the add-on with the C button like you would a scope.
Also about how easy it is to win the game, I think it's partly how conveniently the Dev's designed the map, where the bridge providing a direct shot to the sub for example is less then 20 seconds away from the proto factory. Add to that the fact that 90% of the players on the servers are complete dumbasses and incapable of doing the simplest things and you get a cake walk. Also, as you can tell by the tutorial video the dev team seemed to have put an emphasis on physically approaching the base and nuking it on foot or by vehicle. I say this since they make a big deal about defeating the enemy bases turrets so It's safe to assume other maps may not be so friendly in terms of how easily accesible their base is to nukes. I've only successfully blown the other teams base up on foot once, and that was completely alone since my team were busy driving jeeps off cliffs.
The majority of payers if you've noticed aren't interested in the objective of the game (Blowing up opposing Base) instead they are just playing it as a Deathmatch type game, If the teams were more aware of a GIANT RED/BLUE nuke symbol casually crossing the map they'd be there in a sec to deal with it, but everyone is a moron and occupied with achieving the best K/D ratio.

Its public dude, what can u expect?
Its like that in every online game on every public server.
And thats why i hate public. But this game will rock in matches that for sure.

Immunity wrote: | Well, at least they got the name right. The game is a CRYSIS in its current state, feels like I'm playing a fuggin Alpha.
I run Bioshock, Stranglehold, Jericho Demo at well above acceptable frame rates. Crysis on the other hand (whether all set to low or all set to high), I'll be lucky to get above 30fps when staring at the fucking sky. When action starts - 10-15 fps.
So much for all those preview vids. and interviews touting how wonderfully scalable the engine is and how it will run great no matter the rig. And all those videos filmed on Quad SLI 8x Core machines that Bill Gates would be hard pressed to buy.
Granted, my AMD 4000+, 2 Gig, 8800 GTS (512mb) system is a bit aging, but this performance is fucking horrid.
They better put down the beer and sour kraut, they have a lot of fucking work to do. |
Yeah time to upgrade - the beta does run pretty crappy. If the DX10 version of this game isn't faster FPS with at least an average of 30-40 I will be disappointed... Its a great game if you turn Shadows to low, and AA off it just looks pretty bad without AA.. Beta 3 runs better. Whats weird is aside from the lame motion blur effect the game feels like its running along at 30-40 fps when you play it, it gets noticable when you start doing stuff though..
FYI you need to check the beta forums and perhaps lower your settings.. I get 60-70 FPS on all LOW though with my system I refuse to play on that setting.

This game does pretty much require 2 gigs of ram, you will get constant freezing when you enter areas you havnt been to with only 1 gig, and I die a lot from that. My HD's got like 80 gigs free so its definitely just a lack of ram. Its not as bad after you explore the entire map but it still pauses periodically.
so on top of new processors and graphics card keep in mind it wont run very good with only 1 gig.

Same problem with quake wars, people aren't used to their being actual objectives so they assume it's strictly DM. Quake wars is all XP tho, no kill death ratio and you get more XP for doing objectives.

(Browsing the gamedata.pak revealed that most files related to team deathmatch is still there but I guess proper tools like the SDK will be needed to fully enable it.)
Nothing wrong with powerstruggle either aside from the lack of teamplay but it's public servers and most people are still experimenting or just having fun since it's a beta.
InCrysis has also posted their initial impressions of the beta.

(I agree with most of it, teamkills are common and that bug where colliding players kill each other is a little annoying but it can be quite fun and the game looks great as expected.) |
teamkills are common? I see a huge big cross when I aim at a teamm8...

I can play it just fine on my laptop with an 1.8ghz mobile athlon 64 (single core), 1 gb ram and a mobilty radeon X700 with 128mb with everything on low and textures on medium.
it's perfectly fluid and still looks better than some current games on high.
on my pc here, core 2 duo @ 2.8 ghz, geforce 7900 gtx (512mb) and 2 gb ram it runs with everything on medium.
you should definitely get a 8800 to play this game on high, but it's not really that necessary because it looks awesome on medium already and still looks good on low.

I hate to be the guy who bugs people but I have yet to come upon a key. In the past I have given my usenet account access to people in this forum and shared my fileplanet account (which I no longer have after switching banks and the direct deposit changed)
Anyone see it in their hearts to help an old timer out here?
