Final.Fantasy.Tactics.The.War.Of.The.Lions.PAL.PSP-RANT

Description:

Sustained by Lord and Light, the twin-headed lion reigns over the kingdom of Ivalice.

A year has passed since the loss of the Fifty Years’ War. The prince, though but two years of age, has ascended the throne, his father having been claimed by sudden malady. Too young to rule, the prince requires a regent, who would be king in all but name. The queen's brother, Duke Larg, had seemed the obvious choice for the regency. However, fearing the influence such an appointment would give the queen, the Council refused to back him. Instead, they appointed the king's younger cousin, Duke Goltanna, as regent.

Duke Goltanna and Duke Larg were both generals who had distinguished themselves during the Fifty Years' War. Duke Goltanna counts as ally the greater part of the aristocracy loyal to the Crown. However, the fallen nobility and free knights left in the aftermath of the Fifty Years' War have aligned themselves with Duke Larg. With Duke Goltanna under the banner of the Black Lion, and Duke Larg under that of the White, the stage is set for what history would one day record as the War of the Lions.

Features:

* FINAL FANTASY turns tactical. Experience strategic, turn-based combat on 3D battlefields brought to life with breathtaking art and stunning visual effects

* Customize your characters – with 22 jobs and over 400 abilities to choose from, the tactical options open to you in combat are nearly endless

Does PAL/NTSC matter on this system?

Is anyone else experiencing some obnoxious slowdown/frame rate problems?

Both actually, FFT is my favorite SRPG of all time, and the only thing I've ever wanted out of it was some sort of multiplayer function, which this now has, my life is complete. Very Happy

Just not sure if this slowdown is a result of the game itself or some PAL/NTSC hooplah, but I never figured it mattered on a handheld?

You probably overcomressed the image (this tends to cause slowdowns).

that may be the slowdown your experiencing

I get the bad framerate aswell. It only shows when using spells and abilities though.. Sound effects play faster than the animations so it gets out of sync during the slowdowns. Normal attacks and the rest of it is smooth. Tried 333 mhz aswell, no difference... I've just bought a slim psp, sold my old one but i dint try it on that before selling it.

Oh and i didnt compress the iso either...
Anyone heard of a fix or maybe another release? It's still playable but later on with all the big spells and summonings i guess it itll take ages to finish a fight.

this game is horribly boring

the battles are rubbish because the 4 camera angles are awkward, the story so far is worse than that of a teen angst tv movie... the only thing i say i like is the beautifully done animated sequences.

lol what the hell man? You complain about FF7 beeing a piece of shit, and now this too?
Why do you even bother? You obviously don't like final fantasy.

I think this game rocks and it's a lot of fun to play it again after so long.
Good old times...

not true, ive played some of crisis core and so far have enjoyed it. so im not biased and dislike anything final fantasy or anything. im very much looking forward to getting the english version of crisis.

i take each game on its own merits, and in THIS game i find the story to be boring, and the gameplay to be just like ive played in other games, but with much worse camera angles that make it almost as much about guess work as it is luck, when it comes to moving your characters and seeing where everything is... i think people rate this game so highly purely because they refuse to dislike anything from the final fantasy franchise.

Or maybe it's beacause this game moved the whole tactic rpg genre a huge step forward in 1997 and is still very enjoyable compared to newly released similair games like Jean d'arc, LOTR tactics etc. Of course it has got some flaws but the game is 10 years old!

I hoped they would improve the camera control and some other things in the new psp version though.. They have just basically taken the ps1 game and emulated it and are selling it as a new game which is a ripoff.

Still... one of the best rpgs ever made and i would give it a pretty high rating even if this release was the first one ever made.

oh... yeah I guess you must be right.. final fantasy tactics and final fantasy 7 suck ass. all reviewers in the world must obviously be biased or bribed and everyone who likes the game is only pretending to like it.

I really think you should give the story another chance, it's one of the best stories in a video game imo, until the very very end. The beginning/middle are amazing.. sometimes I wonder if I'm playing the same games as other people. Razz

And as far as the game being bad itself, it's still THE definitive tactical rpg, who cares if it's Final Fantasy or not? Razz

FFT was probably the best tactical RPG i played in my life.
Sigh however i hoped that this PSP release would have added a bit more than a couple of classes ...

@ stooz: since you are a FFT fanatic too, would you advise me to get it or this one is way too similar to the PS1 one ? I loved it and got over 100 hours of play (i still have the PS1 memory card with the save Smile ) but it seems way too similar for replaying it again ... what do u say me ?

Ah that's the big question eh? Well for me it was a no brainer... ever since I played the crap out of the original, I've always wanted to play multiplayer of some sort... and BOOM they re-release it with multiplayer functionality! My dream come true!

The extra classes are amusing too. But for me, I was sold on the multiplayer addition. It's still the best tactical rpg out there, I'd highly recommend it. Smile

WTF! Why is there still slowdown when characters do special attacks? How can square not fix that shit?

The PSX version runs better then this. This is unplayable for me, anyone know if there is a fix or something to stop the slow down?

I am playing it with the PSP clocked to 333, still there is slow down. This sucks.

it's really odd that the emulated psx version runs fine but the native one does not.
oh well, I don't really mind it too much. I mean, yeah sure it's annoying, but I can live with it.

For goodness sake, the horrid slowdown completely takes away from the experience. I can just imagine how badly summons slow down.

I won't be playing the PSP version, until some fix is released. Which may be never. FUCK!

Thanks for your opinion ... however without the multiplayer addition (i'm not interested in it) i'm unsecure about investing so much of my free time for it ... give me a yes/no quick answer: will you (re)play it even without mp ?
