I can't see how someone would think of this deal expensive.

TF2: multiplayer class based game. How much did they sell BF2, BF2142, etc upon release?
Portal: single player puzzle game. Not much but it's a game which definitely costs $20 on it's own.
HL:Ep2: single player expansion episode(a bit more than Ep1). Again $20 looks fine to me.

So how do you get this whole deal to be, expensive, steal, whatever? Seriously, I bought single games with less play value and replayability than one of these 3(fuck the other 2 you already have most) games, at a higher price. Oh yeah...you want a box, not the two games you already have and a slightly higher price to be happy. Rolling Eyes

And again, read my posts. I didn't said it was expensive.

Sorry I just saw the tricky words you wrote.

However, my comments are because of the general feedback from many people. Nobody said anything about bioshock's price(it truly deserves it) which was higher, and they whine about a package that includes 6 games. Some are small, one is full length and one multiplayer. Ok, so they already have the two of them. I have them as well. But, when you look at the price, TF2 beta and even that peggle extreme that sucked me 1 hour just for the know how, it's a bargain.

Ah, enough. I will wait for monday and have fun.

Some TF2 stuff info I found(bored to jump on TF2 thread)

-You can't be invulnerable when you have the flag.
-Scout capture points twice as fast as other classes.
-Sticky bombs stick to walls and ceilings,. (LOL!)
-The medic heals to 150% of player health.
-Medic arrows on screen tell where people who need medical attention are. (handy)
-Picking up fallen weapons refills ammo. (makes sense)
-As a spy you can call for enemy medics. (evil scenarios running through my head...)
-Engineers can remove sappers with wrench.
-Dispensers generate metal instead of having to put metal in it.

Jesus. It's 25 GBP's (including tax) and that's still nearly 13 GBP's cheaper than a SINGLE brand new game. Anyone who thinks that PORTAL, TF2 and EPISODE TWO don't constitute as a whole at least ONE game - worthy of a mere 25 pounds is a complete and utter moron with full on Steam hate clouding their vision.

That they throw in Half-Life 2 and Episode One to boot makes it even more valuable a purchase if you have friends who aren't interested in these titles but wouldn't mind them for free (or even if... god forbid you haven't played them yet!).

JESUS CHRIST IT'S THE DEAL OF THE CENTURY AND PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING!

I never said that it was too expensive for what was offered. What I said was that Valve was forcing loyal customers to buy the same games twice, and moreover inflating individual prices to get dumb fanboys like you to claim that they're offering the "deal of the century" when it's only just fair. Don't you think that it's the slightest bit strange that they're charging more for one part of an episodic game than another? Or that they're charging $30 for a mod when even CS: S (the most popular online FPS ever) came free with the retail version of HL2? Or that a throwaway tech demo (no matter how fun it might be) costs the same as Ep1?

All I want is a Black-Box-style package for $35 or $40. Considering the fact that Valve canceled the retail version of it and retailers might get annoyed if Valve undercuts them with Steam, I'm pessimistic about the chances of that. That's beside the point though, because either way such a package should've been released at least at the same time as the Orange Box. Releasing the Orange Box first is just a big "fuck you" to the people who have already bought HL2 and Ep1 and are a large part of why Valve is so successful today.

BTW, people need to stop saying that the Orange Box is $45. It's not $45, it's $50. The $5 preorder discount is just another way to get fanboys to scream and become completely irrational. $50 also happens to be exactly the same price as most new PC games today, so I'm not sure where you got that "13 GBP" number from. (Are the exchange rates really that bad or something?)

I was kinda agreeing with you until the point when you said you are willing to pay 35-40 bucks for a black box. Pardon my French, but that is bullshit from diarrhea land!

5 bucks shouldn't make such a big difference when buying a pack. I am willing to pay the extra 5 and get HL2 and EP1 for "free". And it IS 45$ for the time being. You can't argue with that. When it goes up to 50$ I'm sure a new pack will pop up.

I resent the fanboy comment, particularly after my negative reviews of both HL2 and EP1 in their respective topics. I'm not calling it the deal of the century for any other reason than the value for money it offers. 25 pounds is not the price of your typical game in the UK market and you can certainly expect to pay far more for several titles.

Including HL2 and EP1 is not much consolation for those of us who already own it (aside from the ability to give it away as a free gift) but should I be a new customer such a collection of games would be utterly fantastic. Essentially I'm buying HL2 + EP1 + EP2 for half the price one single new game would ordinarly cost. That they throw in Portal, a customised Peggle and the game that everyone really wants; TF2 makes it even more worthwhile.

If you own Half-Life 2 and Episode 1 then the deal is really this; Portal, Episode Two and Team Fortress 2 for 25 pounds. How anyone can say that this is ripping people off or hurting loyal customers is beyond me.

I used XE.com and the retail prices of games (not on steam, and not on sites like play.com). Shop around you can get anything cheaper (especially PC related).

so is EP1 and 2 games in themselves, or just 1 level bonuses that add-on to HL2?

and TF2... is that made by Valve and new software or is it a mod?

anyways, TF2 looks interesting, although i am not sure if there are persistent stats that make BF type games more addictive.

at any rate, if i get this i wont bother buying it retail if you need Steam to play it. my experience with Dark Messiah was not all that great... i bought it retail, then installed MP so Steam downloaded the entire game (4 gigs or so?), and now its attached to my Stream account so there really is no need to have the DVD and i cant sell it since it would cost someone $10 to reset the key.

me, i like a tidy desk and if i am not playing a game anymore or if support sucks i will sell it.

They're not 1 level bonuses, Episode 1 was pretty short, like 6 hours i think, Episode 2 should be a lot longer, portal itself will have 18 challenges, shooting around 6 hours play time as well, but there was also talk about some random levels stuff by the dev team.

TF2 is also made by Valve, and it will feature stats and achievements that you'll access through the steam community.

It's $10-15, but you're right, it doesn't. It's the principle of the thing.

Ep1 added bloom effects (and possibly other things) to the engine, but I'm not sure if you have to have it installed to get those effects in HL2. You might as well install them anyway, since having Ep1 installed doesn't affect HL2's story or gameplay.

I believe they roll the source engine update out on all their games, however they don't usually add the new features in the game itself, but rather just the underlaying support for mods and etc.

That said they apparently retouched Half-Life 2 as well for the Xbox 360 release with updated HDR maps, although it's unknown if PC users will get it.

But it's probably pre-loadable (llike dod souce) and our 1337 EMPORIO group is probably making a working version out of that Razz (just like dod source Razz)

I agree, way to much time between episodes. I fear Ep 3 will be over a year away. But at the same time there isn't TF2 and Portal being worked on at the same time. Ep 3 may come a lot quicker now that those other 2 games are finished. I just hope it doesn't end after Ep 3! Half-Life 3 or 4, what ever they call the next game after the 3 episodes will rock!!!
