Yep, you can have a bot match if you wanted, but its the on-line play that is awesome that's why a got it pre-order, many, many fun hours of joy here.

Yes!! Been looking forward to the final release. I had fun with the beta even though it seemed I didn't have many hitpoints. Oh well, we'll see how the final release is. Finally, more maps!!

Yeah there was a way to play first version of BF2142 online on cracked servers but it was such a pain to do that no one even bothered cracking latest versions. Maybe because one can buy a legit cdkey for like 10$.

WoW. I really like what i am seeing as far as what I see against the bots. Have no clue as to what i am doing in the game yet but it definitely looks interesting.
So, should I purchase this game for multiplayer or not? What's the persistance element like? I thought i read somewhere that it has some kinda persistant/RPG element type thingie... think I'll go research this game some while I wait for someone to give me the simple skinnie of the game here.

Ok basically, it's an objective based MMO FPS. either team your on you'll have objectives tho I haven't seen strogg missions yet. So if your plaing GDF if you hit "L" or I think "tab" and look at the bottom you'll see the objectives, they'll have an icon next to the mission as well so you know what class you have to be to finish the objective. Each class also has their own fun, such as deployables. Snipers(hackers) can deploy smoke gernades as well as a radar for the team. Demo has c4's which they can put on about anything for big boom. Engineers(constructors) can build a turret for vehicles, anti air or anti personal.
While your looking out torward the map you'll see little icon's with mabye a wrench or a crosshair, depending on which objective you have to do, and you'll either want to play as that class or if someone on your team is playing as it, back him/her up. Doesn't hurt to have 7 hackers to go after one mission to make it harder for the other team, but then that strat takes out the fact the other classes aren't in use for help, such as the class for calling in air strikes (forget class name) or medic to revive. Get to your objective and hold F on it to complete it.
XP works with killing people, completing objectives, deploying (I think) and if your a constructor you get a little bit of XP for repairing vehicles and deplyables. Once you gain enough XP for a class your working on you'll start getting unlockables (you'll lose them at the end of the game) such as faster sprint if you run a lot, flak jacket, if you do missions for your class you get XP dedicated to that and will unlock stuff for your class, such as a new gun with a gernade launcher, or bigger clip sizes, have air support drop you a vehicle etc....um..that pretty much sums it up.
This game is heavy on team work. Your team doesn't work together your team won't win. You can let everyone go do what they want and kill enemies and all, and you can keep switching classes to do the missions, but you won't level in your class very good, I've played quite a few games where both sides had a good team, took forever for us GDF to pull through but we managed in the last 5 seconds of the map haha.
Any questions?

Cool! Thanks for taking the time to post all that info!
I guess the only questiong I would have would be:
Was I wrong about reading some sort of persistance from game to game or. . .?
I was assuming this was in the "official" online multiplay mode.
Oh and another thing, when you die, can you switch roles and if so how?
