ive never played an halo game up until this one, and i still cannot see what all the hype is.
to me its just like any other shooter.
i must admit FPS's is not my favorite genre i am more into rpg/adventure but i still fail to see whats so "special" about halo

Just finished it on normal. Took 7-8 hrs, no real challenges apart from flood lair (which was more frustrating then tough). I never really got the Halo hype, maybe because i was playing FPS long before this hit the market and brought FPS success to the console world. I found the first one fairly repetative only finishing because of the decent story and narrative and as many years later its the same thing all over again.
Gameplay wise its bog standard PC FPS, almost as generic as Serious Sam or Quake (Yeah it feels that old). The only real highlight in combat are the vehicles, the control scheme is still as fun and intuative as i remember. Oh and the scarrab tanks are good craic to take down. Apart from that its one man army type fighting with endless ammo and baddies to mow down.
Graphics rate from 'decent' to 'outstanding' which is something i've never come across before. I mean why bother having amazing armor decals and then ugly 1990s pasted on hairdo's. Also the still artwork for some of the wider views, eg. cutscene explosions really detracted from the experiance. All in all though with the type of fast paced action thats on-hand they work well, mostly.
Sound, no complaints. The main orcestra piece is alittle overused. Ans the weapons are way way way way too low but apart from that its fine.
Overall i'd probably give the game an 7/10. This game is just so ordinary in every way, nothing stands out apart from the brand name.
Ps: Comparing this game to Bioshock is blasphemy

After the first two missions, the one in the jungle and then in the base, the visual quality ramps up considerably I thought! Really impressed with the game now it actually looks like its on a next gen console!

This game was a bit of a letdown for me too. I'm not quite all the way through but getting close (1 days play). The graphics are decent-good overall but they are bad in exactly the same ways Halo 2 was bad. The humans look really awful, the aliens don't look great (mostly the textures), the level design and look is quite dated. The game is somewhat fun otherwise I would have stopped playing it but it's really quite behind the times.
I kind of expected the graphics too be below par compared to other 360 games but I expected a great immersive sci-fi story. The story is bad...I'm really tired of video games having stories that make no sense. Bioshock was a great game but even that had an awful awful story. Everyone seems to want to make the story suprising so they confuse the hell out of you so you don't guess what's going to happen next. I'm also sick of first person shooters making the field of view so narrow! It's hard to appreciate the graphics and the open environments when it looks like your looking into a telephoto lens. My field of vision is 4x what these games show and what I can't see I can move my eyes without moving my body.
I'm sure a lot of people will have fun with this game and the multi-player is likely great. I've played a lot of games so when a game comes out that offers me game-play from 2001, graphics from 2003, and a story from a B movie I don't get that excited. I can see why PC gamers aren't interested in this game. They've been playing games with better graphics, story, and gameplay for years. Halo has the basis of what could be an amazing universe but it lacks attention to detail. I would suggest to Bungie in the future do not create room upon room of enemies. It becomes monotonous. You need breaks in the action, you need to develop characters and the plot.

Not that I'm that interested in the story of Halo, but it was funny to see the disappointment people had when they finished H2.

The ending is perfect relative to the Halo story so far.
I don't see what everyone else seems to see in Bioshock. Yes the story is original, big deal what FPS doesn't have an original story? Halo 3 = 3rd game.... Other than that Bioshock is still the same as every other FPS game out there. Wow power ups! Or wow level based puzzles, thats never been done before. I got bored of Bioshock and haven't even finished it.
Again Halo 3 isn't anything better, but at least varies between open vehicle combat and corridor based combat.
Seriously please point out something that proves Bioshock is the creme of the crop FPS game to date.

yeah same here, never finished Bioshock, just got boring same with Gears of War, i think people hate Halo because its Halo, lol, same way people hate Man United or Arsenal, lol

It's funny, so many people complain about the graphics. Who cares, for Halo it is about the story and game play. They used the Halo 2 engine after all and you can only add onto a engine so much.
Plus this one sticks well with the books, it sort of like reading the book in 8 hours. Maybe they need to play Halo 2 again on the xbox and then the pc. After that they can play Halo 3 again and maybe they will change their minds.

because they are official xbox magazine. microsoft payroll. they need there magazine to give them a nice comment for the box so in 2 months they stick
10/10 OXM all over the box
OXM over rate any game over ps3 and that are hyped. it is their interest to get lots of people to buy xbox so they dont lose there jobs

excuse me for expecting one of the most highly anticipated games of the year to look good.
and what do you mean who cares for gfx? ME! i care for gfx. and if you didn't care for it, so why the hell did you get xbox360? why didn't you stick to the good old NES ?
this halo3 thing is amazing - it looks half baked, single player campaign is nothing special, generic and sometimes boring, and still, so many people trying to defend this title like it's their own...

I don't care about graphics. and I got a 360 so I could play new games that I'm interested in, not so I can watch better graphics. better graphics are just a side effect.
I still play playstation 2 games a lot more than I play 360 games.
Hell, I even play with my SNES emulator more than I play 360 games.
and the campaign is just as good as the campaign in halo 1 and 2 was.
if you liked those 2 games, then you would also like halo 3.
and if you didnt like those 2 games, then why the hell did you expect this game to be different all of a sudden?
also, you act like the not so impressive graphics caught you by surprise, when the beta was out for months and screenshots and videos were all over the place so everyone knew what exactly to expect.
Maybe playing through the campaign on your own isn't a very entertaining experience, I dunno... maybe you should try playing it in co-op as I always do, and I always have a great time playing the halo games in coop.

i dont think visuals are under par at all, as far as single player gose anyway. I think they did it nicley, compared to halo, halo 2 theres far more to apreciate than some people are giving credit for.
its a really well done all round game, story, graphics, most sounds (apart form the dull sound of the guns) Gameplay is what halo is all about and it has not failed to deliver.....wee are seeing much next gen graphics this year like crysis, bioshock. im pritty sure halo 3 has anywhere on it that says next gen graphics.... and of course we cant help but be blinded buy the eye candy of these games... only thing we can all agree on for now is yes they are lovley looking but how long did you plat bioshock for really!!! and would you play again and again? crysis still remains to be played to see if the gameplay is any good at all. I have douts, and im sure crytec doo too as they have delayed the singlplayer demo till october a full month after the release of halo 3 with a nice statment that says, WE DO NOT WANT TO RELEASE OUR GAME ON THE SAME DAY AS HALO 3, AS THE GAMEPLAY MIGHT NOT BE UP TO SCRATCH AS HALOS. but thats just my apinion..... fell free to comment but be nice about it

IGN and teamxbox have reviewed the game, and are saying that it's a beutifull sight to behold. Team xbox are saying that it has the best use of HDR in any game to date.
I liked the game a lot, but come on...what's wrong with these people? Or how much have they been paid to say this?

well... graphics aren't just a technology thing. things may not be as detailed as in other games, but I do agree that there are several beatiful spots in the game that are not graphically impressive, but just beatiful. alien constructs in the distance and the like. maybe that's what they're talking about.
there's no denying that halo 3's graphics aren't the best on the 360 and I'm sure they know that.

Well seen as Crysis is Pc only and Halo 3 360 only, i really doubth Crytek care less about it. Having played the Crysis Beta nightly since getting it i can tell you it far surpasses both Bioshock and Halo 3 imo.
About some mags getting alittle excited with the green pen. Its to be expected, Halo is the face of Xbox (Why is a mystery to me given there so many great exclusives). And they can't have it come across as a mediocre title.
