Most new drivers dont work very well with old games. You should install older drivers. Drivers that were released few months after the game was released. Btw what gfx card do you have?
I dont understand whats funny here? I too have same rig and older games wont work. Like i said try with older drivers. For 8800gtx try first one released or second ones. If they wont work then you are out of luck.
