ign pc review - 8.1

Wait, what? So people who doesn't like the game should now change their mind, because reviews says it's a good game? It's opinions, get used to it. Laughing
Some like Halo, some don't. Some like Tetris, some don't. Some like Stranglehold, some don't.

And again FLT FTW!

They're becoming my favorite group Smile

I don't think the games is boring but could've been better for sure...

It's the game itself that is huge. Very Happy

\Stranglehold\Binaries - Core files like the DLL and EXE, 26 MB
(Not much that can be done here.)

\Stranglehold\StrangleholdGame\Config\ - Configuration files, 665 KB
(One INi file, don't know if it can be edited as the demo crashed when altered.)

\Stranglehold\StrangleholdGame\CoookedPC - Game data, 9.37 GB
(Huge game, this is the sounds, textures, model, maps and such.)

\Stranglehold\StrangleholdGame\Localization - Subtitles, 1.14 MB
(Eng, Fra, Ger, Int, Ita, Rus, Spa subtitles and text files.)

\Stranglehold\StrangleholdGame\Movies - Logos and game videos, 3 GB
(Can get it down a little by removing logos and trailer videos.)

\Stranglehold\StrangleholdGame\PCOnly - Advertisment billboard system, 9 MB
(Commercials and such, heh nice "exclusive")

\Stranglehold\StrangleholdGame\Splash - Logo picture shown during startup, 2.7 MB

And that's all the files (folders) in the game and a rough estimate of what they do. Smile

EDIT: Game also includes trailer videos for.

Blacksite (3 versions, not installed but on DVD1)
HardBoiled (Same as above, 3 versions on DVD1)
Hour of Victory (Same as above)

HardBoiled (Similar to the above but located in the games movie folder)
Blitz (Located in the movie folder)
Wheelman (Same as above)
UT3 (As above)

the xbox release was like 6 gigs... it'd be interesting to see a comparison between the pc and console version, because i doubt theres very little difference... especially to justify a 6 gig jump in filesize...

maybe multilanguage and bink movie files? iirc the 360 cutscenes were rendered ingame, pc ones are recorded as bink files

Gamespots review (Both the X360 and PC) mentions roughly 6 - 7 hours of playtime.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/stranglehold/review.html

EDIT: Wich makes it rather similar to MoH: Airborne as that game is also quite big in install size but only offers a few hours of playtime.

EDIT2: Based on the names of the movies there seems to be only eight levels in the game.
(Aside from the multiplayer maps.)

Market_*.bik
Mega_*.bik
Museum_*.bik
Penthouse_*.bik
Store_*.bik
Taio_*.bik
Wongs_*.bik
slumcity_c0760_bink.bik
(EDIT: Store is the unlock shop where you spend your style points so seven playable levels instead of eight.)

Two questions:

- is this game also using the "Unreal3" engine? (then I am optimistic about the performance, since I was satisfied with Bioshock and Airborne running well on my old 7900)

- what about the save system? Are there only automatic "save checkpoints" or is it possible to save your game always manually?

thanks Smile

This is a totally arcade fps so graphic is the first factor to consider. We are not talking about an rpg or an rts.

i disagree... gameplay should come first for arcade games...

eheheh just read one of the reader reviews of stranghold on ign:
I could only play 5 min off the demo before i got burnt out, all this game is about is running and gunning, there is no thought process at all.

hahah thats like playing need for speed and going 'dude... theres only driving! no shooting or puzzle solving, this game is so stupid!!'

Exactly the opposite! Its totally arcade so only gameplay and fun matters. And in that case Stranglehold is pure run&gun, so the fun is really huge.

Fuck the gfx FFS Rolling Eyes

@Chiv : Thought process? Laughing No thinking, just shooting - tis' ain't Sokoban!
