the ever going progress of video games. I dont need my games to be revolutionary every time around, as long as they are good games. But i dont mind one or two (r)evolutions in gfx now and then. FarCry was one of those for sure. And saying that doom3 is just a tech demo is just a reiteration of an old resentment against id-software from peeps who like other games better and cant take it that they look worse and are being laughed upon by their peers for playing outdated ugly shit... I think doom3 came a long way in story-telling compared to quake2 and q3a (where i also dont see why the above argument about a tech demo would be true, or nobody would have ever finished em). And at the times where the story grows thin a twist in grafix changes the gameplay to cope for the lack in story in doom3... I bet hl2 will have the same problems, that it will have to have some gfx moments and story moments to drive the gameplay and some people will hate it for that. Will it be a bad game just because it has "outdated gfx" in comparison to farcry and doom3? Do i even believe it will look outdated? Will it be accused of being just a tech demo for the source engine? I guess that nearly every argument will be proposed by someone somewhere on this planet in some shady forum about games, but if you look at what it comes down to at the end, its if you are entertained enough by it. So stop arguing and anticipating, just wait for it and enjoy the ride you ll get.
Ok, i dont know where i even want to go with this rant, so i ll stop here and go to bed, hehehe
oh, before i forget it, i bet hl2 will be a good game

how can u say farcry had a better engine than source??? half life will be much better at drawing distances and more action on the screen. i must admit farcry looked alright and was stable but it didnt have anything that left u in awe. doom3 = as soon as u shined the torch at a zombie ur jaw dropped. with half life 2 its the amazing physics. Half life needs more power because it has to remember more entities. and i dont think any gay will come close to half life 2 for another 2 years again,

The interactivity in HL2 puts farcry, and especially doom 3 to shame. The characters also look better then farcrys, not all shiny, more realistic.
The attention to detail is insane though, for example, on that Office map on CS:S, a computer was shot apart and you could looks inside and see the fan on the graphics card ffs. The whole engine looks and feels great, and I prefer it to both those games I mentioned. Although the vistas in farcry were jawdropping.

Behind what?
Who cares what technology they use, it's how it's presented that counts.
You don't have any idea what the HL2 final will be like.

you never played the beta of hl2? one of the coast maps was absolutely HUGE compared to any levels ive seen in games so far.
i wish i still had the beta on my hardrive i would load up the map and no clip into the sky and take a screeny.
it was atleast 3x the size of any of the CS:S maps.
there probably keeping the CS:S maps pretty small because if theres only a few people left alive you dont want to see people running around for the rest of the round without finding the other players.

even if you buy it in store they are just steam files packaged so when you install it you just install the valve's 'cab' files then log into steam and play it...
but you still need a connection which is fucking gay...

valve doesn't give a shit about those people... look at their stats according to them a shit load of people have internet and that shit load of people know about hl2 since they use steam and steam runs hl2 ads like mad.
so those who don't have internet connection will get screwed... and valve won't give two shits about them because if they want to play it they should go out and get internet. It’s not valves fault you're poor. But it's valves fault for not thinking about the minorities... Like who the fuck cares about poor people... since they can’t afford internet what makes em think they can spend 80 bux on a game?

I want to see complete maps! Which would show dedication. And since you can no clip there, there should be something there. In doom3 you noclip from an area you're out of it... You can't go back to clipping mode and walk around the empty area in doom3 but you can do that in css and that just makes me pissed. It lacks dedication. There... maps look huge but they lack dedication... they lack the umpf!
Doom 3 may not be compare to hl2 graphically, physically but it does kick its ass dedication wise.
That’s what I loved about doom 3. Even though it wasn’t as great as 99% of the population wanted it to be it was something! It was awesome! It showed that ID wanted to make it! It showed that ID cared about the people. When d3 was leaked Carmack helped the community to get the most out of the illegal version. When hl2 got leaked valve just ran around pointing fingers at people responsible for it.
WHO THE FUCK CARES? Valve should care about the community not trying to milk them for money.

you only need an internet connection for the first time you start steam and play hl2 ,after that you can run steam in offline mode and play hl2 anytime you want without an internet connection.
you dont have to pay 80$ for the game thats only if you buy gold and most people wont be intrested in gold or silver.
if you cant afford to find a free isp and connect to the internet for a few minutes then you cant afford the game.
who the hell doesnt have internet access in this day and age? how the hell can you not afford it?
in the UK the cheapest service from my cable isp is only £6.99 a month for a 256k always on cable connection , thats only 2 hours work even on minimum wage.
if you hate the halflife series and valve so much dont buy it and quit posting in this thread.
EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT

that makes no sense at all if your poor you shouldnt even be able to afford a PC capable of running halflife 2 in the first place.
by what your saying valve should make hl2 run on a p2 266mhz pc with 2mb graphics card so the minority doesnt get left out.

the only real reason you need an internet connection is that you have to register the cd key to your steam acount before you can play even on single player.
just thought i would add that.
i guess u can say its similar to MS product activation.

steam is far from perfect as everyone who uses it should know.
they will probably update steam so that you can start it in offline mode rather than trying to connect first.
not rating a game really close to 100% because future games will be better seems kind of silly though.
i dont know how pc magzine reviwers rate there games but i imagine they take into acount how perfect a game is given current hardware restraints
a game can be almost perfect for the hardware currently available and the fact that reviews give even average games 80% and over is kind of backwards and forces them to give really high percentages to good games.
anyway no doubt even HL haters will atleast admit that hl2 is fun once it comes out.
i wasnt to impressed with the original halflife to be honest but hl2 beta rocked my world i had many hours of fun messing about with the partially working maps had more hours out of hl2 beta than i have 90% of the pc games released in the last year.
the thing that really makes hl2 stand out for me is the fact that theres already dozens of mods in progress and i know im gonna get a few months out of that game.
VALVE is great at suporting the modding comunity and no one can take that away from them.
Quote: | so until i get back you won But valve still sucks in my opinion |
its not about winning its about voicing your opinion? something that everyone should feel free to do without anyone resulting to personal attacks aka flaming.
you may hate HL2 and have every right to everyone is different some people will love it while others will hate it but thats life you cant please everyone.

Injurious, you're starting to give me the impression you're a fucking moron, which I hope is not the case.
Are you saying valve should have helped us to get the most out the leaked beta? What fucking planet are you on!

Carmack didn't help the community to get the most out of the illegal version. He just didn't care. I remember watching an interview and they asked about the leaked beta and they were sad over it but just ignored it and continued working on it.
Injurious just stop bashing HL2. It's not even out yet. I can't wait for it to come out and watch it be sooo good and I'll laugh at you.
