I am seriously looking forward to this game. I'm getting bored of WoW and this might cure my online fix without having to worry about being a serious MMO.

I think I posted about it but here's what you get when you subscribe to the game, quite a few bonuses compared to the standard edition.
| Code: |
Multiplay will be free!
Elite Multiplay will cost $9.95 a month
Secure, closed servers hold your characters, even if you're not Elite
Elite players get 24/7 phone and online support; plebs get basic online support as with any other game
If there are queues to get on a server, Elite players go to the front
Elite players can have 12 characters in total; plebs get 3
Elite players can store around 40 items in "lockers" spread throughout the world; plebs can have 20.
Elite players can also transfer these items to characters on other servers; plebs cannot
Elite players get unique gear and can wield the most powerful weapons in the game. Said weapons can also be emailed by the Elite to others of their kind
Elite players can board shuttles that transport them quickly to hard-to-reach corners of London
Elite players can become officers of guilds and own, enter, or operate player housing and guild buildings; plebs can be members of guilds, but will not be allowed to enter said buildings, or purchase property for themselves
Elite players get access to more gametypes; plebs not allowed into servers or areas where those gametypes are operating
Elite players will get new content each month, such as new monsters, new gametypes, new items, and so on

Cool...so it doesn't sound like us non-subscription types will get screwed over too much. I'm gonna def buy this game because the replay value sounds INSANE. And I don't think the subscription thing is all a bad thing, the super geeks who wanna be uber in the game can pay while I'm fine with jumping online every once in awhile. Hopefully it means that the company will have funding and be cool with adding new features/items/baddies in monthes after release, even for free users. That's the only positive thing I see about WOW, they really seem to add a shitload on with patches compared to others.

#1, they aren't calling it "Elite" any more because Bill Roper said that it lead people to believe that they were getting short changed if they didn't subscribe.
Bill Ropper Quote:
"You know, just to interrupt--we're not really calling it Elite. [Laughs.] That was kind of a dev name that just--when we talked to [Games For Windows magazine], we threw it out there. We were throwing out joking names for stuff and I think unfortunately, that ended up having a really bad connotation with people. They said, "Oh, so either I'm Elite or I'm nothing," and it really isn't that way. I think we were trying to come up with something that just kind of sounded gamer-y and cool. It really just breaks down to your standard out-of-the-box experience and then whether you're a subscriber or not.
Elite put bad connotations in people's heads that are very misleading. It makes it sound like what you're getting with your game box purchase is not good when actually what you're getting with your game box purchase is pretty awesome. So that kind of threw us for a loop. We didn't really expect that reaction that we got from people and I think it kind of diminished the message of what it was that you got by buying the game and what you got by getting to go online and play for free. So, sorry; I just wanted to jump in there because the Elite thing came up and I just wanted to set that straight. I'm sorry to interrupt."
If you do not subscribe, you (According to Bill Ropper) are goign to get the same game play experience and replayabiltiy as you did with Diablo II. He has said in interviews that Hellgate London is much more random than Diablo I or II ever were. Even the quests and such are randomly generated and that there are things he sees that he has never seen before. The entire single player game is randomly generated.
BUT, he has said when they made Diablo II they were constantly bombarded by people wanting more more and more. SO, with the subscription . . . you don't get less than you did say with Diablo II... you just get added content that you don't have to wait for an expansion pack for. he has talked about them planning events... like a certain day of the week make it a mod day where mods are more likely to drop. Little content introduced all the time. Then, once every 3 months or so... a big content push which will include new areas, new monsters, new gameplay mechanics, and even new classes. Subscribers are, supposedly, going to have a lot of input on what to put into the game by voting and such.
So short result is:
If you don't subscribe, youre going to basically get the same stuff you did with Diablo II but with more replayability (IS THAT FREAKING POSSIBLE??).
If you subscribe, you're going to get Diablo II and then a lot more as far as content.

more and more I read about this game the more it intrigues me. I've got friends in the guild that want to recreate the WoW name inside this and as a paying subscriber I can. We've got a handful of folks who want only to be casual and that's good.
5 players max in dungeons? Thank god! no more 25-40man raids. Keep it small and simple and let us have our way.
I really hope they don't decide to make these larger mega encounters that need 10-20 people as that will suck

i thought this might be the game to own for fall/winter, but now i have my doubts.
not interested in the $10 fee, even if its optional... i would likely be a pleb and i can see Elites smiting plebs with great ease PvP if they get to store twice the amount of magic items and even wield better equipment.
dunno, just sounds like a pain in the ass and a way to dig into your pockets, even after the initial $50 fee...
lets see if they have created a balanced environment that is cheat proof.

Well... here again, you need to read more about it before you jump to conclusions. items don't work like they do in a traditional sense. You can make an item level up with you as you level up. (I'm not going to get into the details but you can read about it).
So, while "Elites" (which they are not calling them Elites) can get more variations of equipment, and maybe some that do more various effects and damage and what not. . . you can still be just as powerful without a subscription.

Hmmm and why did they say this then? Elite players get unique gear and can wield the most powerful weapons in the game. Said weapons can also be emailed by the Elite to others of their kind

Well... dunno. But I read a 9 part interview with Roper where he showed how you can take an Item from the very beginning and keep leveling it up with your chatracter as you go so that some neat item you like and find at the beginning can be kept throughout your character's life. Besides... I have heard no mention of PVP anyway... maybe non subscribers won't be able to pvp against subscribers. Who knows? Doesn't bother me anyway. I am not looking for PVP in the first place. OR PVP may only be available to subscribers...

If you ask me this is pretty lame way of earning money. Imo game should be the same for all because all people payed for it. They could have made that people who dont pay for subscription have some kind of commercials in game or make game free and then charge subscription. This game isnt next big thing and these kind of thinking will make many people ignore this game.Commercials are the future of online games not the subscription. I know i wont be getting game where i wont have acces to all gear and unique stuff or be able to make a guild if i dont pay for it. If the devs of Guild wars can earn money without subscription fee then these devs can too.

Then why dont you buy a life time membership for 150$ a one time cost.

Yeah usually i stay away from MMOs like the plague, but im actually considering it with this game. Will probably wait closer to release for reviews and shit to make sure the game doesn't get repetitive after awhile or some huge flaws(both seem pretty unlikely from all i read and watch). And 150 is less than 3 games and all the extra content they are talking about sounds pretty fucking nice for a game that alone already looks like it could kick the living shit out of every other MMO-type affair out there. So kinda reasonable, IMHO.

| Code: | | There will be no monthly fee associated with Guild Wars 2. Mike O'Brien has stated that expansions or mini-expansions are more likely than standalone campaigns, but a final decision hasn't been made yet. |

Well than, I stand corrected! Could have swore I read somewhere differently.
I am actually glad to hear it because I personally like Guild Wars.
Regardless, I will pay for the subscription for Hellgate London and don't feel cheated in any way to have to do so.

Not sure how having free or subscription is a bad thing, I mean you are entitled to an opinion of course. Your really not gunna be cheated out of out of anything gameplay wise, theres a different type of gamer, one like me who doesn't need all that extra stuff so im cool with with what I got but if someone wants more than just the basic and is a hardcore addict then hey, they can feel free to pay, and since their helping paying the costs then they can get the extra stuff. I mean it's better than with guildwars to get any extra shit (excluding the seasonal stuff) they release a whole new standalone expansion every few months that costs like 50 bucks (which is still cool considering how much stuff you get). The only other way I could have seen them doing this is making everyone pay a stupid amount of money or, rape the game with ads like BF2142 did which I couldn't see being done very well in the theme of this game.

Ok here is the deal for me. If i buy a game in shop, doesnt matter what game i wanna play it in its fullest because that game is payed for. You cant charge game and then charge subscription to be able to play it (WOW). That simply isnt right. What do i pay for when i buy game that needs subscription for playing? Box,manual and useless code on cd/dvd. Great way to spend money. If there is subscription game should be free to download. Thats common sense.Lets get back at game at hand. In my world making a guild is pretty basic thing and not a thing that i need to pay. All mmorpgs are about unique items for youre car. Everyone wants to stand out and look diffrent not generic like rest of "noobs". Dudes that pay for game will get uniques and the most powerfull wepons meaning they will own people who have generic equip. Lets spin it up a bit. I have a guild in this game and im paying a subscription to be able to have guild open and i know that people who pay for playing have best equip and weapons, these all are facts, do you think ill let some dudes who are not paying for game, therefore have crap equip compared to paying people, join my guild? As any clan/guild leader you want to have the best possible players in youre clan/guild. Do you see where i am going with this? This is only a small part of the things that will happen. I hope you understand now what i meant Spykez.
Guild wars was huge success because there wasnt any fee to pay to play. If there were that game would never be so popular. Anyone who thinks that they didnt make shitload of money on it is dumb. If they introduce payment for playing, they are not doing it because of they are not earning enough money, its because they started to get greedy and want more money. Its simple as that.Imo its a bad choice and if they do it i dont think that that game will go very well. Karmeck i know you can buy liftime membarship but giving 200$(50$ game - 150$ subscription) for 1 game is insane to me. There are much smarter things you can buy with that kind of money. Anyway i see that some dont mind paying to play so we will see what will happen with this game. I hope they will have some kind of demo or trial so that we can try how game works online.
