|
 |
Hi, I have a Geforce 8800 GTX 768MB arriving today and I'm looking forward to running Bioshock & Airborne at max as my old 7900 GS just wasn't getting the FPS I want.
I am worried that my CPU may be a bottleneck though - AMD 3800 + @ 2.0
Should I be concerned?
I am running Vista Ultimate with 2G of Ram.
thnx

a faster CPU will make it go faster of course , but no it wont bottleneck .
its sorta cheap to upgrade though , i assume you got AM2 socket , its like 130 bucks for a 5200+ x2 , 2.6 ghz 2x1mb cache

And the 5200+ x2 sounds like a good investment for the near future |
no, if your going to upgrade your X2 at all, get the X2 6000+ 3.0ghz

I've hit a snag, I ordered a COLORS-IT 450w Gold Silent 12cm Fan PSU and I have just discovered that the PSU doesn't have enough connectors for the card
I currently have a 450W Eye-T in my PC at the moment and was wondering if this will be suitable for now until I purchase a better one?
I know the 8800 GTX needs a 12v current rating of 30A. The only specification info I can find for the 450W Eye-T is:
Product Details: OEM Power Supply 450W ATX PSU
Device Type: ATX PSU / Power supply
Power Provided: 450 W
Motherboards Supported: ATX
Input Voltage: 95-132VAC or 190-264 VAC switchable
Ripple-noise: 5A res max. for 230VAC
Hold up Time: 16 ms
Power good signal: Power on delay time 100ms to 500ms
Dielectric withstand: Input to frame ground 1800VAC for 1 second
Overload protection: 150 %
Enclosure: Internal
# Features: One Ball bearing Fan with noise killer
# Resetable on power shut down, rear on /off switch power down
I'm not very good with watts and amps so will this be suitable for now?
Thanks |
wow dude, you'll need a better PSU than that with the system you got you'll need at least 600 watts

6000 x2 is a great price / quality cpu indeed , but i figured he only wants to make sure his CPU is on par .
about PSU 450 will do , but you need a quality PSU that can sustain that wattage and give stable voltage at the same time , thats way more important for a stable system .

550watt , active PFC , double 12v rail , 62 bucks is a good price for that .

So my current 450w PSU should keep me gaming until monday then I'll purchase something better, sweet ! |
look for a pc power & cooling (recently bought by OCZ) turbo 510 watt SLI, they come with a 5 year warranty and can take any challenge you give them. They're one of the best on the market.

spykez man , i know you got good intensions , but after working a few years in the "computer building business that doesnt sound as fun as it is" you get to know very few are computer enthousiasts or have that kind of money to spend like me and you , most just want whatever works for them in the cheapest manner , he wouldnt be able to tell the difference between the 5200+ and 6000+ unless he benchmarked it , and the PSU i linked thats 120 dollar less in price is sufficient , he only has a single GTS , not ultras in SLI <3

Yeah, the dude is probably on a budget, and a 200 buck power supply is cutting into other things when you can just get a decent one.
I say go get an antec or fsp/fortron psu 500+ watt psu (basic but dont hafta worrying about it blowing shit up).
That offbrand psu you got is really not advisable when you got such a rockin vid card and if you upgrade mobo/ram. And that 450w is peak watts, which is a no-no to run at all the time. Plus I am sure efficiency is shit compared to a good brand, so you will probably lose alot of juice, causing lockups and shit.
So yeah, get a good psu asap, not one that looks good but IS good.
Here's my suggestion for a great budget psu that you wont hafta worry about: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817104037
Core i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz | 6GB OCZ DDR3 8-8-8-24 @ 1600mhz | eVga x58 Mobo | 2 x eVga GTX 460 SLI | Intel X25-M + 3x Seagate + WD Black = 2.75TB | X-Fi Titanium | PCP&C Silencer 750 | G15 KB | G5 Mouse | G35 Headset | Z-5500 Digital | Samsung T260HD

Ya I forgot to mention that 450 watt is probably rated when it's either off or cold, once it heats up you can say goodbye to some of that power.
That PC Pwer & Cooling I posted is rated at 60C
