So what if the end fight was relatively easy? Are boss fights supposed to make you utterly pissed off and so crush the keyboard/mouse/whatever out of despair? Personally, I'd have been totally disappointed by a typical, "let's-make-that-bugger-sweat"-type of an end game.

I hate games where they throw huge bosses that are tougher and tougher to beat (until you find the routine that is, then it's as easy as taking a candy from a baby).

Well i hate super tough bosses too, but the last boss was really too easy, no sense of achievement. I mean that big daddy with the gun took me twice as long to kill as that boss. I actually expect him to turn into some uber duper form after you finally get him. But the whole game was dumbed down, so i didnt really expect the boss to be super hard. They are not like capcop, where the bosses are freaking next to impossible on the hardest setting, but when you finally down one, you feel good even though you broke the keyboard/joystick.

I like bosses with strategy. Not full out warfare. I mean the boss had no atmosphere for the game, was some.....crispy looking freak that didn't fit in bioshocks world. A buddy of mine even felt he wasn't the intended boss or they didn't think up that end till they got there. I personally think it was a horrible way to end the game. The bosses around the game weren't anything more than human then all a sudden you get this monster that looks like he's been cooked on a grill.

I totally agree that he didnt fit into the bioshock's atmosphere, he was something out of the doom universe. Every boss except the last one, looked like a "spliced" human, not very different from the normal splicers but still unique enough not to look like every other monster.

how many weapon upgrades can i expect by the end?
and yea... i agree that Bioshock is a good game but not a great game. its simply too easy and dumbed down to be a great PC game. definitely not game of the year imo but maybe hype of the year.
Bioshock reminds me of Bruce Campbell's scene in "Escape From LA" with the plastic surgery gone awry. the story is nothing spectacular... somehow you end up in there and for some reason you are risking your life to save some guys family and it goes from there into what and why happened... its not very existential or surprising to me.
and the game is just not scary. "Welcome to the circus of value!!!" maybe they should have incorporated elements of Call of Cthulhu where looking at certain things would drive you mad.
System Shock 2 was freaking scary, at least the fist time... who would have thought monkey's were life threatening?
at least with STALKER, i was intrigued with the setting and researched Chernobyl, and was fascinated with GammaGirls website. and that game was open ended, and at times very scary.

September 10, 2007 - With the next installment in its flagship Grand Theft Auto franchise delayed until 2008 and the controversial Manhunt 2 taking a mainstream media beating, publisher Take-Two Interactive Software has had a tough third quarter. But according to company execs, the future is looking positively rapturous.
Take-Two released its third-quarter earnings today, reporting a dip in revenue to $206.4 million, down from $241.2 million during the same period last year. Those numbers were largely ascribed to sales of The Darkness, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, The Bigs and All-Pro Football 2K8.
But those figures don't include revenue from sales of BioShock, the 2K runaway hit that Take-Two officials say is breaking industry sales records and raking in royalty-free dough. Developed by Irrational Games (now 2K Boston and 2K Australia), BioShock is an original Take-Two-owned property and one the company said it plans to leverage in the future.

"Clearly we have a new hit franchise on our hands," said company chairman Strauss Zelnick in an earnings conference call Monday afternoon.

That last boss took me half a health to kill on second try First try used one health pack and crazy amount ammo left. Yes I played with easy (sissy), but like others said, some big daddies and way to end was more tough. Remember SiN Episode 1: Emergence last boss that was VERY hard and took multiple loads and different tries and ran out of every ammo. That too was played on easy, as I don't like to get too scared or load constantly
Well, I loaded only few times the whole game (died twice), but it took many days and hours to complete. Hardly used the big weapons (grenade launcher and chemical thrower) at all as I wanted to save them for the tough parts. Loved shotgun and didn't use that either almost at all, as again I wanted to save the ammo Well seems like it was nothing similar to System Shock 2, where you were always out of ammo.
Like the funny review said, ammo was everywhere (SS2 it was almost only in secret places) and also money was everywhere and I kept hitting that 500$ limit, so had to spend it on ammo So someone who is still playing, DON'T SAVE AMMO =) Also the guns were somewhat unbalanced, machine gun was almost useless. One incinerate bolt was more powerful than two clips, but only upgraded the damage rate on last level.
Somehow it seemed there were too many weapons, as every one of them had 3 ammo types (except wrench ). This resulted me using some ammo of all types in every weapon, so that there was room to pick up more from desks, safes & stuff. Maybe I can only blame myself for searching almost everyplace
All in all, graphics were awesome, only one place I found that went under 24 fps, rest was smooth. Was some statue thing near staircase with smoke and stuff (what level wasn't like that you may ask ). Liked all the weapons, except the last. Liked most of the plasmids, hypnotize big daddy and electro bolt were favorites.
Enemies were diverse, but somehow there were no indication on how tough the opponent was, until you shot him. Only those spider things and big daddies of course you could tell from far. Rest looked pretty much the same, not counting electricity or flames. True that they were humans once, so no minus points from that.
Story was good, but there were many characters listening those tapes/radio messages that I got lost a bit in the plot. Music was great, sound effects/noises awesome. Atmosphere was chilling, scary, tension building and even cute sometimes. Too candy like sometimes and did like the arrow thingy, as I hate running around the same places over again trying to find some door/key/switch.
Few hours straight was the most I could do, before I was so tense it hurt my back Wasn't too scary to play, that was one of my concerns, as I would have stopped playing it and didn't want to. This resulted many times playing more, just when you about to stop. Played whole last level because I wanted to see just a bit what there was.
No errors for me at all and don't think I even saw bugs. Oh wait, yes there was one that really got on my nerves. If you hypnotized big daddy and went to a tight spot, you couldn't get out! He just stood there blocking the way and you either had to kill him there or wait and wait for the hypnotism to end.
There aren't that many these type of games I've played trough and this kept me interested whole time. Might even remember them all. Wolfenstein 3D, Doom 1&2, Quake 1, System Shock 1&2, Max Payne 1&2, SiN Episode 1, HL2:Episode 1 almost, maybe some more, but not a lot. Other either too scary, boring, too long or repetitive. So on that note I'd give it 9/10 and almost whole 1 point just for the end boss, it left me empty, don't feel like "yeaaaaashhsh, take that \o/ I did it, I'm the best, who's your big daddy now!"
Might have to try and change difficulty while playing and then try it again, but all opponents would be harder as well, so it doesn't make the end really harder in contrast. Ammo is limited tough, so maybe it could challenge me. Sorry for the mega long post, was going to write just few lines xD Those who read it all, I salute you. Those who didn't "time for beddie bye mr bubbles!"

Yeah, I was playing at the highest difficulty and I took him down pretty fast. The game overall is very easy.
Apart from that, I really enjoyed the game.

What's a good way to killing a big daddy, coz I have a hard time achieving that without ressurecting each time.
Always low on ammo
Few plasmids
Only works when i rig a camera and those flying turrets come and help me out

In the beginning it's tough to not take a beating. I used Electrobolt and the shotgun at close range to kill him. But I still lost health doing so. You really have to have good timing. I found Electrobolt and Fire Buck Shot was the best in the beginning. If you can find the Fire Buck Shot. Don't be discouraged, as far as I know there is not a way to kill him in the beginning without losing health. Especially the Rosie, fast as hell!
Spoiler: | In the later part of the game there is a way to kill him without losing any health or taking a hit!!! |
