Alright, First I'd like to say thank you to a friend for his wonderful help in creating this guide.

Things You'll Neeed:
1) Counter-Strike_Source_FINAL_READ_NFO-EMPORiO

Extract Your game to C:\CSSource\

Once this is done, copy the files from the Online Fix (Counter-Strike_Source_ONLINEPLAY-EMPORiO.ZIP or emp_css-onl.rar) into C:\CSSource\.

Once again overwriting any and all necessary files.

Right click on the hl2.exe (located in C:\CSSource\) and click send to > desktop (effectively making a shortcut on your desktop).
Navigate to your desktop
Right click on the shortcut you just made and click properties.
Now add the following text to the end of the path in the first edit box
"-steam -console -game cstrike" (no quotes).
So the line in the edit box should look like this.

C:\CSSource\hl2.exe -steam -console -game cstrike

Once this is done simply open up your steamapp.cfg (located in C:\CSSource\) in a text editor.
This part of your config should look the same as below, but with the proper information placed where the "yourpasshere" and "youraccountnamehere" text is.

SteamAppId=92
#SteamAppVersionId=0
SteamInstallPath="C:\CSSource\"
# [as is clearified later on, this should be your email address:]
SteamAppUser=youraccountnamehere
SteamUserPassphrase="yourpasshere"

After editing those 2 lines save your config and close the text editor.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE STEAM CLOSED. Check Task Manager if you have to.
You may now run the game.
It may take a while for the game to startup so be patient.
Once it starts up you will be able to join any valid game. Congratulations Smile.

hey Maddox I followed your instructions here to a tee and still when i launch the game from the desktop I get the "Steamfailed 108 error the local Steam engine is not running".

any ideas?

also just to clarify :


# [as is clearified later on, this should be your email address:]
this doesnt mean i put my email address i used does it? because you didnt ..

SteamUserPassphrase="yourpasshere" does the password go with or without ""?

ok what about the email address line, what needs to be there? or just leave it exactly as is # [as is clearified later on, this should be your email address:] ???

No email adress needed and it can be around 20 reasons why its not working...dont know what you set up and how.

I get this error when I'm starting (in dos)

"Can't find background image 'materials/console/background01.vtf'

followed kommando's guide, and the other one too (the same)... whats the problem :S?

hey thanks Kommando ! even though thats pretty much the EXACT same way Maddox stated.. and thats what i was doing.. I finally figured it out !!!

#3 in these instructions should be more clear as this is why myself and others have had the problem when launching the game.

when you copy the contents of Crack to the main directory of CSS, you should not overwrite the files ! you should open the Crack/bin folder and copy the files in there (only has like 3 files) then open the CSS/bin folder and paste them there. DO NOT JUST COPY AND PASTE that folder as there are way more files in the bin folder ! same goes for the cstrike folder. now it works !

It will not overwrite the whole folder you know..it will ask you to overwrite cause the folder has the same name but it will only overwrite the new files and NOT replace the first bin folder (54 files) for the new one (3 files).

If your computer do so..well...you have a serious problem Wink

i dont know, i did it my way and it worked, so its all good !

question now though, can i play without using the net? meaning just bots? reason my brother doesnt have internet connection and i'd like for him to play the game.. just thought i'd ask, i know some people mentioned this.

Some of the technology in this game is superb. For example, the muzzle flash of the guns, reflects off the smoke. It looks amazing.

The office level is fucking fantastic, you can shoot a couple of holes in the glass and dive through it.

I can't wait to see some of the mods people come up with, 'The specialists' is no.1 on my list!

The other levels are ok (not played them all), but the office is great.

/doesn't work for me either, I followed every step closely, I get Steam isn't currently running after I cracked it then added the onlineplay crack and then made the shortcut. I got nothin.

everything works fine for me till i log on to a server...when the game is almost done loading my computer crashes at the part were he checks my user ID or something like that..could something be wrong with my steam account ( i made a new one, cuz i didnt have one yet ) anyone else had this problem?

There was a similar hack for UT2004 when it was released, but it only worked for a couple of days. And I heard that there was one for CS:CZ, but it was fixed too. So don't expect this one to work too long either..

Luckily enough HL2+CSS+All the other mods coming out certainly are worth the 50$. I am seriously thinking about buying this game, which is something I haven't done in a while.

Yah, office is really good! Especially with the Beefy Computers, haha.

You can really get into detail breaking those things up! Very Happy

You got a shitty graphics card man. Here i have no bugs at all and models are looking great too. Too bad it has only 5maps.
Also its fun too spray some cool pics in the game while playing. Was this also in the original cs Question
