but yeah, my moneys on another delay..i mean a playable tf2 demo is hardly going to be worth much, and they wont be releasing the game early, so i cant see what else it could be... maybe a brand new shiny set of REALLY COOL TF2 WALLPAPERS will be downloadable from steam... for $19.95....
If it's something i would cancel my vacation for, and it's not the movie, then it's certainly not a preload nor a delay, however they have actually said that they will start preloading a couple of days ago in a couple of days, so that definitely fits around monday/tuesday. But clearly they would be smart enough to know that i won't cancel my vacation to buy a game i can't play yet.
So what else would i cancel my vacation for? Well either a demo or the full game, not to mention that we already know from reviewers that TF2 is very much done.
The Orange Box—featuring Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal, as well as the complete Half-Life 2 experience to date—is now available for pre-purchase via Steam. Pre-purchase The Orange Box before the October 10 release to save 10% off the regular price and get exclusive access to the Team Fortress 2 beta on September 17.
The Orange Box, penned by IGN.com as "the package which could legitimately be called the deal of the century," features three highly-awaited new games by Valve: Half-Life 2: Episode Two, the second installment in the Half-Life 2 episodic trilogy; Team Fortress 2, the sequel to the game that put class-based, multiplayer team warfare on the map; and Portal, the game that blends puzzles, first person action, and adventure gaming to produce an experience like no other.
To bring gamers up to date with the Half-Life 2 universe, The Orange Box also includes Half-Life 2, the best-selling and highest-rated action game series of all time, and the episodic debut Half-Life 2: Episode One. Customers who already own these titles will have the ability to conveniently "gift" them to a friend upon official release of The Orange Box.
Starting Monday, September 17, those who pre-purchase The Orange Box via Steam can download and activate the beta release of Team Fortress 2 (TF2). This year's most anticipated online action game, TF2 delivers new game types, a signature art style powered by Valve's next generation animation technology, persistent player statistics, and more.
As a special bonus, those who pre-purchase The Orange Box via Steam will also receive a copy of Peggle Extreme. PopCap and Valve have teamed up to create a special edition of the game cited by MSNBC as one of the “Top 5 Most Addicting Games of All Time.” This first ever collaboration is themed around content from Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 and Portal which will positively result in Extreme Fever.
Seems like a interesting offer for those who purchase the orange box and I suppose ATI 2xxx cards also get this via that coupoon. (Black Box)
EDIT: Reading the announcement better it seems to be a "Orange box" exclusive, not a big deal for me though.
(For others like me who already own most of the source driven titles and want a chance to test TF2 it's probably worse as you effectively pay twice for products you already own.)
EDIT2: Checking the steam store there also doesn't seem to be a alternative as the games are only sold together via the "Orange box".
(As such those who already own Hl2 and Episode 1 will probably pay a little extra for titles they already own but as the games already have individual prices there might be a individual release later on.)

~$51.50 for 4 games(I own HL2 and Ep1, and got Peggle Extreme). I don't mind about the extra $5 since black box should sit around $40 when it will be available. I already have some people who would gladly accept those games as a gift.
I would have waited for the black box but for $5 it's insignificant imo.

what a load of bullshit... you get hl2 in the package... i allready have hl2.. you get ep2, but not ep1, so ep2 is usless to me... complete and utter fucking rip-off.
i guess i wont be getting tf2 then, unless they release it seperately....
im not sure... either they havent thought this thing through well enough...
or theyve thought it through VERY well, and are purposefully ripping people off... hmm...

Your ability to read baffles me, do they no longer teach english in schools ?
The Orange Box contains HL2, HL2:EP1, HL2:EP2, TF2, Portal and if you pre-order now you get another game for free.
HL2:EP2, TF2 and Portal are all available seperately also at a price of 29.95, 29.95 and 19.95 respectivley.

yes, you are right, i made a mistake... i think ever since i started using the internet my ...uh... brain thingy, you know what i mean, has dropped.. i only read the first part, and didnt see that ep1 was also included... but still... half-life 2 is a full game, and obviously thats what the bulk of the price is going towards... ep1 and 2 arent really worth much, as they are just short patches basically with about half a typed up page worth of story (which is about 2 paragraphs less than what hl2 was)... portal looks fun, but all together the pack doesnt look like its worth the amount you pay... ive allready paid for hl2 once... i really dont want to pay for it again... they should knock off $30 so that they can offer the set without hl2...
ill just get tf2 on its own. after how shallow hl2 was, i dont really have any interest in ep1 and 2 which probably are even less deep than hl2 was (which is saying a lot)... and as for portal, it definately looks interesting, but not really worth buying.. who is really going to play it more than once? tf2 is the only reason to really buy the box set.
edit:
just checked steam... yeah valve sure is trying to screw the fuck out of consumers... buy the whole lot for 50, or just pick ONE item and pay around 20-30 for it... i just remembered why i pirate so much shit
how do you actually PICK just tf2? do you need to click pre-order orange box, then remove the shit u dont want? when i click pre-purchase, i get 'specified subscription is invalid'... wtf?
edit: nevermind fixed it, but i still dont know how to just select tf2.. i dont want all the other worthless low quality shit like ep1 and 2, and i can download portal later..
im guessing there isnt an option to just buy tf2 yet, its only the prices that have been released. i think this whole pre-purchase thing is orange box only (which is teh gay).
The black box coupoon code also works, noticed that Episode 2, Portal and TF2 was available after todays steam update and preloading TF2 worked just fine, guess this is good news for X2xxx card owners.
-You can't be invulnerable when you have the flag.
-Scout capture points twice as fast as other classes.
-Sticky bombs stick to walls and ceilings,. (LOL!)
-The medic heals to 150% of player health.
-Medic arrows on screen tell where people who need medical attention are. (handy)
-Picking up fallen weapons refills ammo. (makes sense)
-As a spy you can call for enemy medics. (evil scenarios running through my head...)
-Engineers can remove sappers with wrench.

Looks like several of the GCF files are now unencrypted with the exception of the "Source 2007 binaries.gcf".
(Probably to avoid people unpacking it and running the game that way.)
EDIT: Seems I was wrong, thought Valve usually encrypted all GCF's during the initial preload to prevent people accessing the materials but seeing the above youtube videos wich shows the tutorials for the games maps I should have known the files were accessible.

well, I'll stick to fortress forever.
I simply can't take that ridiculous comic look of TF2.
I'm sure many people don't mind it at all but I think it just looks like shit.
