Vista just told me that I no longer have an authorised copy. I can no longer access Windows update or properties on my computer.

Any one else?

**EDIT** Now I have 10 days to activate - guess they've done something Sad

I've read about the possibility of Microsoft activating some sort of Anti-Piracy "reduced functionality" mode in Vista as of today, Sept. 11th. I don't know how many different (scene/cracked) releases of Vista there are out there, but I believe that the PARADOX crack/Bios Emulation Driver won't be affected by it. Basically, the info from PARADOXs readme.txt states that the keys which are used, are from OEM ASUS/Acer/HP/Dell systems, and the Bios Emulation Driver simply allows those keys to work, even though the hardware might be completely different. Therefore, if Microsoft was to block out the keys from the PARADOX release, they would (I think) effectively be screwing up all of the legit users who purchased their Dell/HP/Acer with Vista already installed.

Again, I'm not totally sure, but I think that users of the PANTHEON/PARADOX release should still be safe. After all, Microsoft isn't allowed to peek into people's systems to see if they have that driver installed now are they? That would be an obvious invasion of privacy (rather than verifing via the CD-Key).

You can read more about MS' NEW anti-piracy Vista Reduced Functionality mode here:

[** EDiT **] The information that appears on the above link has been confirmed as a HOAX. Sorry I posted it too early, but I came across the confirmation just after. You can check it out here too:

Urgh, having your OS behaving like it's own little police force is so stupid. It wouldn't surprise me if this happened more to legitimate customers than pirates (like other protection schemes).

I also think fisk should be unbanned.
