That review was one of the most honest and humorous reviews I've seen a long time. This guy's great!

Spoiler: | You just have to look around the places in the map you haven't visited yet and collect all the ingredients... It's quite straightforward, actually. And then there's this rose you have to get, too. Here's a guide for that section http://www.mycheats.com/view/section/19218/19793/bioshock/xbox_360
As for selecting your active quest I only play on the xbox, and in the console version i haven't found a way to do it. If you get stuck try listening to the audio tapes, sometimes it helps. Or you could go for the hints, but I think those kill the game...

Thats probably just nostalgia talking, the game is ridiculously similar to System Shock 2.

It is the spiritual successor after all. After playing it for so long, I must say what stands out it the atmosphere, characters, and voice acting. Ken did a good job overhyping this game. Gameplay feels great to me, but it's really nothing new. And the whole Big Daddy - Little Sister relationship was hyped up in the sky and overplayed.

I think the overhyped part was the environment acting how it should?
Can't buy or read news paper, that would have been an awsome addition to the atmosphere, reading different newspapers..
hardly interact with the phones, all you get is you dialing and that's it, now if it actually connected to a room where a splicer would say some fucked up things to you then it'd been awsome..
ice plasmid was proof he overhyped the environment, you can't freeze water, you can't put out a fire with the ice plasmid?
None the less I love this game to death, and I think I'm one of the few who never played SS2.

You are forgetting it was designed for CONSOLE too, so it had to be simplified, i just cant imagine a console player (not all of course, but most of them) reading a newspaper, especially in the game.

its a good game, but yea... its too simplified and we know who we can thank that for!
very similar to SS2 with the exception that SS2 was actually challenging.
and linear!!! Bioshock is SO "you have to go this way"
the box says no 2 players will EVER play the game the same... umm, im like 2-3 levels into the game and there have been hardly NO options.

its called make it good enough for the average Joe politically correct named : Dumbing down the game SO much that a fricking arrow points where to go and you are always on godmode with those reincarnation tubes like 5 meters away of each other

Well review posted above is spot on, epscially those "blocking the easy way right infront of you so you have to go around to find another way", but it is actually fun exploring the place, its not big so you dont really get lost, but still there are secrets to find. Im not regreting spending $40 on it. The only annoying thing is the respawning AI, i dont mind it to respawn eventually, but it usually respawns right after you leave the area, and there are triggers to spawn them all around (the bee hive place was especially obvious) and the bosses are VERY easy (im not quite done with the game, but i dont expect it to get much harder).

You can, but only in specific circumstances. Melting ice with fire works in almost every instance though, at least if you use the chemical thrower with napalm ammo.
Like Parallax says the the atmosphere, characters, and voice acting are absolutely sublime. I loved the Andrew Ryan character, so full of grandiose rhetoric, yet in the end just as fallible as the people he despised. Did anyone catch the audio diary taking the piss out of him?
The production values of Bioshock, combined with the narrative style of Deus Ex and the freeform gameplay and world mechanics of the original Gothic would be the best game ever!

Just finished the game for the 2nd time. First time i did it nice and slow, explored, listened to all the recordings and saved all the little sisters. 2nd time through I just went through harvesting everything.
NO SPOILERS DON'T WORRY
Both endings were alright, I guess. Dont count on one of those endings that will leave you completely satisfied, the enjoyment from this game came from exploring rapture and watching the story unfolding. The gun fights and big D battles were icing on the cake for me.
Going to take a break from the game and come back for my 3rd time through (Gordan Freeman Style) wrench only with a tactic discussed earlier in this thread.
OVERALL: fun game, I had a blast, but "would you kindly" take your time with this game! explore, listen to all the recordings you can. Find secret rooms ect ect ect.
