Quote:

Over the months since Vista's release, there has been no doubt about the reduced level of network performance experienced compared to Windows XP. However, some users over at the 2CPU forums have discovered an unexplained connection with audio playback resulting in a cap at approximately 5%-10% of total network throughput. Whenever any audio is being sent to a sound card (even, several users report, while paused), network performance is instantly reduced. As soon as the audio is stopped, the throughput begins to climb to its expected speed. It's a tough one for users — what do you pick, sound or speed? So much for multi-tasking.

i have to say i am very disappointed.

i bought a dual core turion 1,6GHz laptop with vista preinstalled

and it is shit slow.

When i copy files from my desktop pc over the network via the crappy explorer, it goes slow slow slow. But when i send them through msn from my desktop to my laptop, it goes fast fas fast. odd eh;)

And when i play a divx on my laptop, it keeps hanging and jerky audio, like playing halo2 on a pentium 1

vista, bad bad bad

SP1 should increase performance of explorer and file operations.

Windows XP doesn't need these "fixes", just avoid VISTA.

I also think fisk should be unbanned.

2000 doesn't need them as well, plus it runs smoother than XP. Why use XP?

Why? never had ONE dam issue with VISTA!. Why is it so bad, i tell you why, cause most ppl that jumped on it when it came out did not have the rigs for it. And what did everyone get....ULTIMTE! and why they complained, cause it would not run all the goodies on their P4 CPU's

I did for a long time, but then games that came didn't work anymore. But they did on XP, and I had less lockups and problems with XP, so it was a natural choice. That's quite the contrary to VISTA... so yes, if I had to change from XP to something it would be 2000, since it works a hell of a lot better than the bloated resource-hog you call VISTA.

And CaptainCox, your tired argument never worked before, since it's a lie. Actually, since VISTA supports a lot of older hardware (it has an a lot bigger base driver support than XP) it's more likely that it's the contrary. You have a too old rig to have problems with VISTA dude... newer hardware isn't properly supported (if at all).

Which says it all, on a larger scale the developers realize that customers haven't jumped to VISTA yet, so they stay with what most people use.

You run VISTA with a P4 and a FX5200? Jeez... if you think VISTA runs well on that, then try it on something more recent.

Well, if one is as smart as you are - that amazement cannot be uncommon. Thanks for once again failing to provide an argument on the topic btw. - are you going for an all time low this quarter? I bet you can reach it if you keep arguing the person instead of showing off your lack of ability to counter valid arguments.
