NO, says the man at SecuRom. It belongs to 2K.
NO, says the man at 2K. It belongs to us.
NO, says the man at Microsoft. It belongs to our license purchasers.
I rejected those answers.
Instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose...piracy! Where the gamer would not be censored, where the PC owner would not be bound by petty encryption, where the buyer would not be constrained by corporate greed. And with the downloading of your torrents, piracy could become your salvation. |

That would be she not he.
When you go insulting people by calling them "genious", make sure you spell it correctly so you won't be ridiculed by your peers.

Oh ffs.
EVERY game that comes out people find a reason to moan and make their piracy acceptable.
If you are going to do it, please accept it as wrong at the very least. Dont try to justify yourself as some software Robin Hood.

Although two wrongs don't make a right. I agree most strongly in this case.

It doesn't work. It's the same .exe circulating labeled differently. It will certainly ask for on-line activation. It's simple guys, Bioshock is an off-line game, but for the first time ever, an off-line game has to be activated as if it was on-line, multi-player. Usually a "cracked" game will launch and be playable off-line, but not on-line since the "Keygens" are generating keys only to activate the game off-line, so that it can be launched, but after that you need a legit key for actual on-line play.
Bioshock is different in that it acts just like an on-line ONLY game, even though the game-play is off-line. As far as I can remember that type of anti-piracy was never attempted before, and here's the result, all the pirates out there are struggling to actually play it. You can download it 100 times if you want, it doesn't matter, even if got some "cracked" .exe you'll ultimately need to activate it on-line.
But let's not be naive too much here, there WILL be a workaround, a complex crack that will bypass the on-line activation. It's a question of when, not if. That type of anti-piracy is kinda new right now so I bet there's some release groups right now trying to race to the first working workaround, it has to be some sort of challenge for them.
I won't be lying nor act hypocritically here, I was indeed tempted to get the game cracked, mostly because it's too expensive for my tastes, especially when you consider it's just an off-line game without too much replay value (game is scripted a lot with only a few randomized events when you back track in previous levels but that isn't very appealing, there's no real goal in going back in previous levels as far as the story is concerned, at least not according to where I am right now in my own game). I had to get it, so I got it from Steam. I am disappointed in buying such an expensive game but ... heck, 2K games earned it well, they worked hard on that game.

I guess you can't just install it - activate - stay offline and make a backupimage of windows and then use this image on another computer offline? I bet a new HW key will be generated and securom fail to launch the game....

indeed the activation works just like you are requesting for verification for your key (as with multiplayer). now the bypassing online authentication part - i haven't check the install with disassembler, i would like to know is the content before verification encrypted? just like in steam when it was preloaded some days ago but with no rights to play. (what algorithm they used anyway?) if so, then it can be son of a bitch, because i don't think anyone is going to bruteforce (they dont even have that much money for shitaload servers) to get the key(s) for decrypting
if the files arent ecrypted before online authentication, then you must build a client/server crack that will authenticate itself, OR remove completely identification = most likely customized setup and against Scene (lololol) rules.

we should know from previous times that the game will prolly be released as a complete warez bundle b4 a crack circulates.
That' s prolly even more true with bioshock which installs a hidden rootkit and other goodies in it's legit version.
The thing I'm interested to know is if ne1 has checked out the version spajdr found. I suppose it will be some form of rip rather than an image since it has been labelled hi-res. That is if it is genuine working cracked version.

IMO...
The protection goodies have caught right up with the cracker baddies.. and are currently on the verge, if not treading a step ahead.
I think the only way this is gonna work is if scene rules are altered. Its as if we have reached a new level of protection, and the scene rules just can't be justified anymore.
Ive given in already and am buying Bioshock tomorrow. Steam or DVD im unsure, depends if i can wait tomorrow out or not i guess (activation on steam is 9pm.)
I can see future games protection taking note (hey it wasnt cracked before retail street date, thats instantly a win over piracy right?).

It's a trojan W32/Sdbot-NI with svdhost.exe file, steals passwords or smth like that.
PS Stop posting crap here. |
According to my NOD32 scan it wasn't a virus, though I did not actually execute it. It's just the same .exe that circulates around being labeled as a working crack, but it's certainly not a virus. Although the icon itself is strange, not like the official one I see in my folders. |
According to Kaspersky too. But, call me a fool, I actually tried it. The shit tried to mess with my VPN and ADSL connections, thank god for Ad-Aware.
