|
 |
So as I mentioned in the Bioshock thread, my system has been overheating since I fired up the Bioshock demo for the first time, locking up when I hit the water the first time.
Well ... she finally gave out. I got the general hardware failure Ring of Death. Its gone.
So my question is ... what model of 360 should I be going after to ensure that I get a flashable drive? Is there any way to salvage the DVD drive in my burnt out unit? Seems like I remember reading that the DVD drives are married to the mobo somehow... is there still no way around this? If I get one of the new HDMI supported 360s, will I be able to flash it?
I would like to purchase a new system when I get off of work this afternoon and I was hoping some of the more knowledgeable Nforce folks would help steer me in the right direction. Thanks guys.

Wait, i'm missing something... did you mess with the console in any way that voids the warranty?

hey
i did the clamps thing it helped for amonth(im not abig gamer so it probably would last even less if i played alot)
but then freezes came back and after few days 3 red rings.
i sent it to www.xboxdummy.com and it works for amonth now and going forward.
clamps alone wont solve the problems.
i also tried that extra fans they sell for xbox after i replaced clamps and it came back with problems.
anyway for the time being the fan that they installed doesnt even draw hot air so i guess it keeps it cool.

clamp replacement and as5 thermal paste WILL solve the problem. the xclamps warp the board under heat pulling it away from both chips at the corners. replacing the xclamps puts the pressure back the other way.
