|
 |
i think there was a topic on this a while back, but im looking for some honest straight forward answers specifically about this, because i plan to buy something within 2 or so days... so here goes:
what is the best choice for a cpu cooler that i can get? im looking at the thermalright 120 ultra extreme, but is there anything that would be a better choice? please give opinions based on what hardware i HAVE, not just whats the most expensive or whatever - whatever i pick needs to be the best/most effective choice for my system. Not looking for water or whatever cooling, just simple fan.
btw i tried emailing thermalright asking for assistance... fucking frustrating, i swear... the only real information he gave me was that i may have a problem putting it onto the motherboard... this is what he said:
"Any of our coolers might give you a problem, because your motherboard is not consistent, here as you might have to modify our back plate to fit"
anyway, heres the hardware:
6700 quad cpu
evga 680i motherboard
cmstacker 832 case - the fan bracket wont be a problem as i dont plan on using it.
thanx.

Tuniq Tower 120. Best one. I have a 680i and an E6600 CPU @ 3.375 per core, and it's at 37c at regular and 50-53c at full load (dual Orthos for example). But it's huge. Don't know if it will fit in the case (don't know that case).

ok ill check into it - what about that thermal paste stuff - is it really worthwhile grabbing some of that arctic silver stuff, or just stick with whatever comes with the cooler (if any)

You can never go wrong with a good ol Zalman, cnps9700 should work fine in cooling it as long as yer not doing extreme oc'ing. I love it cuz its (relatively) low profile and doesnt weigh a ton. And I use as5, myself, it usually drops 2-3c under load. I never trust the packaged compound stuff.
Core i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz | 6GB OCZ DDR3 8-8-8-24 @ 1600mhz | eVga x58 Mobo | 2 x eVga GTX 460 SLI | Intel X25-M + 3x Seagate + WD Black = 2.75TB | X-Fi Titanium | PCP&C Silencer 750 | G15 KB | G5 Mouse | G35 Headset | Z-5500 Digital | Samsung T260HD

chiv, if you don't move that too much, I recommend it dearly. It's huge, it's heavy and it does a fantastic job. And, if someone breaks into your house, you can always hit them with it.

How can you say that it's the best cpu cooler if 100% of the major reviews sites says that the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme dethroned the king of cpu coolers Tuniq Tower?
