For a long time I've heard about this anime series, but I've never seen it, I never even knew what this was about, but 3 days ago after I've seen that it had a 9.1/10 rating at imdb, I tought, "it can't be bad", and start watching it, after watching the first 14 episodes, I was started to get dissapointed, I mean it was a good anime show but nothing more that deserved so much popularity, but I couldn't be more wrong, after I've reached the end of episode 26 I was amazed, about the depth and beauty of this anime, after the series I watch Death and Rebirth and after when I finally reached End of Evangelion and tought that there's was nothing more that this anime has to offer I was speechless, I still am, End of Evangelion is a godlike masterpiece, in fact is so much more than that, I never felt so much emotion in anime before, in fact not even a movie or a book or a music, I can in fact say that it's the most beautifull exibition of art I have ever seen.

trully a masterpiece

btw it seems that it will be another evangelion project to be released in 2007/2008, do a search for evangelion in imdb and just see the list of 2007/2008 projects

just watched, pretty goog, also it seems that the 4 movies will be a mini series called "Rebuild of Evangelion" the first 3 movies will be a a sort of remake of the series using new scenes and effects, and the 4th and final movie will be a entirely new ending for the show.

when you say that is due come out in august somewhere, you really meant to say that it's due to come in august in japan, but I guess it's a direct to dvd release so thanks to the internet and fan made translations we can hope to watch it in august/september Laughing

Heh, I'm lazy ya know..
They'll be released in theaters first, that much I do know. If they went straight to dvd Gainax would've called them ovas. Wink
Anyway, as soon as a source is available, fansubbing groups or dvd groups will jump on this like a bunch of rabid dogs, hehe.

Berserk the anime didn't end the way it was supposed to, the studio simply ran out of money and what was intended to be the final episode was never made. That's why it just stops with an enormous cliffhanger...
The manga is still ongoing to this day and it's very good. There have been rumours about a second series for a long time, plenty of material to work with anyway.

 Spoiler:

The best way to watch NGE is by watching episodes 1-20, 21-24 (directors cut eps), and then The end of evangelion btw.
It's best to skip death and rebirth and eps 25-26.
Death is just a recap of the series, and rebirth is just the first 45 mins of the end of evangelion.

I know this is off topic but like kuroi said, the Berserk manga continued, and it's amazing.

mrhelpfull, even if you're not into mangas much, trust me, you'll like the Berserk manga, it's so gory, so amazingly better than the anime. It truly is beautiful, and best thing is, the whole thing with Griffith in the anime (also in the manga) is very short compared to everything else that happened afterwords in the manga, it truly is a huge piece of story you can read through.

Trust me, just give it a try, I used to refuse reading mangas, cause I prefer moving pictures, but i've never been so immersed in anything when I started reading the manga (after having watched the anime).

Used to be Yondaime but forgot pass and what email I used on it. Doh. I had ~1200 posts or something, been around since NForce started or so, so i'm no new guy. Razz

Blu-ray has been released, rips are being made and released as we speak.

For now I see Ep1 and EoE rips.

No? It's still coming.

They are remakes/adaptations to movie format but some people caught some clues (ranging from "hmmm.. maybe" to "holy shit EVA conspiracy theorists are the worst") that make them believe they are sequels. It's up to the 4th and final movie to confirm this theory.

The first two are very much worth it, the 3rd let's just say that it wasn't received well and the 4th who knows when it will come out.

Pretty sure they did in the original series. It's just they kept releasing 'alternate endings' which were just incrementaly simplified so that more and more people would understand it.

they ran out of budget and made the last 2 episodes about introspection while recycling old footage. that is not what i call a proper ending.

And EoE is anything but "simplified" (even "alternate" is not exactly correct).

I admit it wasn't clear, but you could tell that the Unity(is that what it was called?) worked, and it was just shown from the protagonist POV how it affected him.

I don't really recall the 'diferrent' endings, but one of them had everyone turn into a... wel, goo, which is how it must've looked like from the outside

It certainly needs "simplification" It's not exactly a great feeling after finishing an anime and you sit wondering what the fuck you just watched.

As Zeel said the TV ending wasn't meant to be.

Proof: During the "in the next episode" bit of the final few episodes they are images of storyboards (instead of finished cels - ran out of budget already?) that just never happen in the TV ending of Ep25 and 26. Then EoE gets released a year later and they are in it.

So when you finish the TV ending you are like

 Spoiler:

And then you watch EoE and you're like wait everything is here:

 Spoiler:

(I just took those from my rips)

So you can see EoE was how they always planned to end it if they hadn't ran out of budget.

That said the TV ending does have merit and I do like it more. And the consensus is as you said that they are the same event from different PoVs - neither is invalid.

So, current best releases:

Episodes:

Quote:
[2D4U] Neon Genesis Evangelion BD - Disc 1 (1-6)
[2D4U] Neon Genesis Evangelion BD - Disc 2 (7-12)
[2D4U] Neon Genesis Evangelion BD - Disc 3 ( 13-18 )
[2D4U] Neon Genesis Evangelion BD - Disc 4 (19-22, OA+DC)
[2D4U] Neon Genesis Evangelion BD - Disc 5 (23-26, OA+DC)

or

Quote:
Neon Genesis Evangelion | 新世紀エヴァンゲリオン 1080p BDRip MULTI (VF / VOSTFR)

^ 2D4U is less degrained so I recommend that (otherwise it looks a bit weird to me). It also includes the non-DC episodes too.

Whichever you get replace episode 16 and 19 with:

Quote:
[Sephirotic] Evangelion - 16v3 [ar ch en pt fr de it jp ru es][BD Color Corrected 720p 10bits AAC]

[Sephirotic] Evangelion - 19 v2 [BD 1080p Hi444PP AAC](SPECIAL COLOR GRADED EDITION)[ENG PT SPA CH GER FR IT RU JA]

Death and Rebirth:
Quote:
[Sephirotic] Evangelion Death and Rebirth [1080p x264 8bits AAC][Eng-subs]

The End of Evangelion:

Quote:
[Commie] Neon Genesis Evangelion - The End of Evangelion v2 [BD 1080p AAC] [C65D0141].mkv

or

Quote:
[Sephirotic] The End of Evangelion [BR-Rip 8bit x264 1080p 5.1+2.0 AAC][MULTI][Eng Pt Spa Ch Ger Rus Ita Fr Jp]

^ Sephirotic kills some grain/noise in the live action sequence for less bloat but I don't like the translations in his subtitles. Commie's subtitles seem better but they do have 1 big error (the well known mistake with the Lilith line.. not saying more because it's a very spoiler-y line). I suggest Commie.

Missing:

Quote:
Death(true) (HD not possible but someone can rip the DVD)
Death(true^2)
Revival of Evangelion

Sephirotic is preparing a redone release of 1-26 (DC only) + EoE which could be the best, but it's also the most tweaked (many episodes color corrected, new translations in the subs of EoE) so it might turn out to be the best, or it might turn out to be too much altered.. He also doesn't do FLAC or 10bit video because of bloat and limited compatibility respectively.

The current releases are safe to get as there's nothing wrong with them.. but Sephirotic might best them soon.

IMO 2D4U has the better encode + the audio is FLAC but his ep19 and 22 are fucked. Then Sephirotic has the best ep16 of all 3 release groups, so I suggest grabbing at least these 3 episodes by Sephirotic (which will probably make you decide to download the whole release and be done with it).

Sephirotic has performed extensive color correction, contrast and gamma work on episodes 1, 2, 8, 16, 19, 21, 22, 23 and 24 and that might or might not be something you like.

Then his EoE has a brand new translation which again might or might not be something you like (at least it doesn't contain the erroneous translation regarding Lilith all other releases have!).

For both the color tinkering and subtitle work a lot of effort and consideration was put in but that doesn't mean you have to like what he did.

All in all if you just want to download 1 complete release, this is the one to get as there's nothing "objectively" wrong with it and it includes the movie too.

If you look at it "subjectively" though, you might prefer some aspects of other releases, none of which though are perfect themselves anyway Razz

And let's revisit what's missing / coming for the super hardcore fans:

Quote:
"True" OA 21-24 episodes <- HD not possible but Sephirotic once said he will release them as extras
Original DC episode 23 <- HD not possible (unless reconstructed) but Sephirotic will release it as an extra
Death(true) <- HD not possible (unless reconstructed) but someone can rip the Japanese DVD (albeit unlikely)
Death(true^2) <- Sephirotic will release it soon as part of:
Revival of Evangelion <- read above
The End of Evangelion: Video Edition <- Unlikely to get a release, but the different credits might get released by Sephirotic
The End of Evangelion's Alternate Live Action Sequence <- Sephirotic will release it as part of the extras.. someday

"...like nothing else on television."

It includes the EoE encode found in "[Sephirotic]Neon Genesis Evangelion 1-26 DC+EoE [MULTI][BD 1080p 8bits v2.22] COMPLETE" so you can skip that while downloading.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Can't say I truly enjoyed the final movie.

Michael Bay style action where I had no idea wtf is going on because we're too close to giant things doing crazy movements
Lack of motion in many hand drawn shots, feels like a TV anime where they cheaped out (there are a few awesome shots too but it's so inconsistent...)
Ugly 3d animation that at points look downright abysmal (wtf was that 3d city fight omg)

Loved the first and second, and didn't enjoy the third one that much but I was hoping the final one would validate it by giving more context, but it really doesn't.

my favorite part was the slow first third where we actually got some world building and character moments. that was great.

after that it was just kinda boring, with nonsensical action where you have no idea what the stakes are or what we're fighting against but hey look they have 12000 angel robots for some reason but hey they pose no real threat! explosiiioooons wooooooooo look at this crazy acrobatic EVA combat woooooooooo! time to activate that super power we never set up! lets goooooo

and don't get me wrong, I fucking love beautiful anime stuff, whether it be crazy action or weird shit or beautiful landscapes or whatever, but it needs to be hand drawn.
this 3d crap is worthless to me.
If it's beautiful hand drawn art, that alone can carry a movie for me, and evangelion deserved that level of art imo. it didn't get it.

so yeah, solid concept underneath, I like the first act and the psychological part of the final act, but man, this is a 6/10 for me.
I suppose Anno just wanted to finish it no matter what now, or was pressured into it.
