Any help would be appreciated.

I plug in my gamepad into the USB port. Vista recongnises the plug and play and all is good ... for a while.

Anyway after a while (approximately 10 - 30 minutes) I get the sound of it disconnecting. I need to take it out and put it back in and then all is good again. This is especially annoying when playing games (I need to pause the game with the keyboard and then pull the slot out then put back in again).

It is not an issue with the power supply (I have 550) and it was not an issue with XP since it worked fine then.

Has anyone else had a problem with USB devices disconnecting in Vista or know the solution?

Never experienced such a problem, but it could be something in the 2003 codebase (XP x64 is built on it as well).

Long shot, but perhaps a problem with power management with USB controller?

For me, no problems with USB devices whatsoever in Vista x64. Never had any issues either with x64 XP come to think of it.

Hi guys thanks for all your help. I think it comes down to Vista again. I tried the power management (Vista wasn't allow to shut them off in the Device Manager - so no issues there). I tried many a different port.

I am using the 32 bit version of Vista (due to the issues with 64 bit). Any other ideas other than wait for Microsoft.

Anyway I now have my computer facing backwards so I can do some quick unplugging/ plugging back in.

It's been revealed that "VISTA" is actually an acronym that describes what you can expect from the new operating system!

V - Virus
I - Instability
S - Spyware/Spybots
T - Trojans
A - Adware
