So where are all the "why not rated R" whiners now? The movie is great!

Thank god! Plain old John Mclane...sort of
About this film... a comment somewhere in this forum got an idea into my head, movies you have to forget about exagerations, laws of physic, etc etc, shut off your brain and enjoy... so far it's working good!
This one is one of them, forget taking out helicopters with cars, F-35's flying under driveways, technological impossibilities... the movie is awesome! I was anxious to watch something like this... quoting someone:

Besides, with a (rather) unknown director who was yet to prove his valour and a supposedly "silly plot", this turned out quite nice...

Suspension of disbelief is a common requirement for films nowadays. If everything that happened in a film was totally rational it would be pretty boring.

I went to the cinema and watched Die Hard 4.0 last night, I loved it. Like everything though
there's always a bad side.
I remember watching Die Hard in 1988 and feeling sorry for Maclane, that's what we were meant
to feel, he was the wrong guy in the wrong place who didn't wan't to be there, and on top of that he had no shoes.
You felt anxiety when he got punched or kicked or shot at. You winced when he padded across broken
glass and then painfully picked it out of his feet. That was the beauty of Die Hard, Maclane is an 'everyman' a 'Fly
in the ointment' barefooted and sporting a dirty vest and early signs of male pattern baldness, you routed for him.
Then fast forward 12 years after 'With a Vengance' Maclane is fifty-plus and that receeding hairline has finally
crossed the line where you just HAVE to shave it all off, He's older and more aged looking and certainly funnier than
before. He gets in scrapes, car accidents, is nearly blown up by a gas explosion, shot a few times, but this time
I found myself not caring about the character, they took the 'everyman' and turned him into 'The Terminator'
you always knew Maclane couldnt die but now he is (short of a cape and and a mask) a superhero.
If a fighter jet wanted to blow up a truck it could, it wouldn't miss so many times (if at all), it could do it in a few seconds
and probably could do it from 10,000 feet. This is where the movie lost me a bit. I know this isn't Nakatomi Plaza
but holy moley it disrupted my suspension of disbelief when Maclane was battling a fighter jet single handed...and won.
Another thing that bugged me was I noticed at least 8 instances of semi-obvious sound dubbing in the flick. I have
an eye for detail but even the average Joe must have seen one or two of these. I don't know if it was just bad sound
editing or they intentionally covered up words and phrases.
One last thing, we go and see a Die Hard flick for many reasons but there is one reason were all listening out for,
we wait with baited breath to hear him utter his immortal catchphrase, Maclane has waited 12 years to say it and for any
massive fan that is a lifetime, so when he does finally say it (and may I say in one of the most kick-ass ways ever) please
don't cover it up with a gunshot sound so you can keep your precious pg-13 (15 in the uk) rating, you mother fu-BANG-ckers!
Loved the Movie though, go and see it.

I thought the whole point of the Die Hard series of films is that for no obvious reason Maclane is effectively impossible to kill, hence the title.
It's like he has some sort of ability to bend the laws of probability. If you went to watch this film expecting anything realistic when it comes to the bad guys attempts to kill him then you're already setting yourself up for disappointment.
As for the fighter jet getting owned, who the fuck cares. I don't see why this is a point of criticism for some people, maybe the pilot was just having an off day, maybe he was just shit anyway or maybe Maclanes insane ability to survive almost any situation short of a nuclear blast meant that no matter what the pilot tried he kept missing him.
For a 15, they could have included alot more gore and profanity. Vacancy for example has some fairly disturbing scenes of murder, even if they are watched on a TV, yet thats a 15 too.

Vacancy was R over here in the states though. Fox was aiming for a PG-13

i watched the movie at the premiere night and i really liked it, despite all the obvious bad stuff. What surprised me though, was that i was totally ok with the over-the-top action scenes but the cliched way in which hackers / hacking were portraied was often a bit too much for me (oh noes, they hacked the internets, now we have to hack em back on all ports and it will take days to bla bla bla...)

yeah i guess for people like us we always choke on the tech/hacker/internetz stuff, and how corney its portrayed, but we are fine with all the over the top action stuff... but that figures, how many military guys roll there eyes at half the shit in action films though

sure, it s a question of familiarity. But damn it, alot of movies manage to "keep it real" by using good advisors to get the problematic stuff right. For example all the military / police stuff is done very well in most u.s. movies. They even get all their medical stuff right usually. Why not teh intarnetz?
With sci-fi movies i usually cringe also at bad physics-explanations, but with sci-fi that is to be expected. Considering that hacking is a thing of the here-and-now, movies are just very unprofessionally researched... ...it didnt much bother me, when computers were a thing for nerds and geeks, but now that everybody and his aunt can browse the web and only needs seconds to get to sites about hacking and the appropriate lingo involved, it s shamefull to say the least.
EDIT:
