EVE is the most intimidating, ruthless and massive MMOG i know of.

There are two versions of EVE. The CCP made basic version for those who just dont want to get deeper into the game, and the player made expanded universe, that is sort of built around the CCP game. The first version is relatively risk free and little more than what you would get from WOW, but the real game that starts once you leave 'safe' space is a completely different story.

Out there, in the dark depths of uncontrolled space, only the laws you enforce yourself count. You have nothing but your corp / alliance mates at your side and a good chunk of the universe against you, depending on where you live, who you ally with.

The risks are high, but the opportunities are endless.

In the 4+ years i played, i've seen corporations and alliances forming, going to war, dying. Territories changing ownership. Enemies becoming friends, friends backstabbing friends and becoming enemies. People quitting the game because they got badly beaten in it and people becoming living legends in the eyes of the players through leading 1000s of other players for years in success.

Just the part of history i've witnessed myself could fill many pages of a book and thats merely a small part of EVE's whole player driven history.

No. I honestly doubt there is any game out there, be it single or multi player, not even MMO that can challenge EVE. Why? Because EVE is not really a game, but merely a virtual universe for players to live in. CCP gives you the tools in form of the game, with which you can add your own to the universe. Be that a singular existance of your virtual self, or even building an alliance that will shape the history for years to come.

You should check into the in game chat channel for corp recruitment. It's how I found my corp. Granted it's a shit corp in a shit alliance, but that's what you get when you have no friends and few skillpoints.

ccp ceo made a blog aswell saying it wouldnt be fair to punish the guy for something they knew about since 6months+ but they didnt remove the bpos the guy spawned until all the info became public from an eve player

No i've read all of it. First off:
Arrow All he was running logistics for BoB caps.
Arrow The BPOs in question where Sabre and a couple of small missile ammo BPOs. Sabre is good, but they where hardly overpriced at the time. Rest of them are crap.
Arrow Everyone does account sharing, they only ban you for it if they have ingame suspisions. Even if you petition something, they wont even check your account. You really have to openly TELL them before they will do something about it.
Arrow Account buying for ISK, yes gay, he should have petitioned that.
Arrow He was punished 6 months ago. Most countries have work laws that prohibit you being punished twice for the same thing.

This all in all has had very little effect on the game, except for some people being so rilled up about it that they have DDOS spammed forums, flamed CCP on all community sites in excistance and generally being asshats. It sucked that it happened but the whole issue has been grossly overexaggerated by an alliance that will remain unnamed here.

Its like a virtual soap opera.

And all of it can be undone or redone with a couple of keystrokes by the right person. Why even bother taking part and getting riled up? Never understood how people get so worked up with guilds/alliances etc...

Eventually EVE will fade into obscurity just like any other old MMO. And there you'll be....a few years off your life due to stress Very Happy

I don't think EVE will fade into obscurity any time soon. It's one of the few MMORPGs that still have a positive member income so many years after release. Not to mention CCP has a long-term (10+) year plan with EVE.

It where a sad day indeed that I closed my Eve Online account, I had to in order to get my life back. 7 days a week from 6.30am though till 12pm I lived Eve and was becoming a anti social sad act, something had to be done to regain my life. Problem with Eve, far to addictive. Warning, don't do it, if you love your life then just say no to signing up with Eve, if you don't head this warning you will be in danger of becoming a spaceship.

Exactly.
besides, ccp really work on the updates of the game. Except fo working on the game itself like balance and interface improvements and stuff, they really have big stuff going on. I mean how many MMOs gets a totally redone engine. And the whole WIS thing seems like a cool feature to come aswell... I'm sure that will bring even more gamers to EVE.

WIS? I'm probably already aware of it, but what does the acronym stand for?

Edit: Ah, right. You probably mean Walking In Stations.

i used to play lots of Freelancer online, checked out IW2, Starlancer, long story short is my favorite genre is the space sim, or space fleet RTT/RTS

i decided to check out EVE finally a couple of months ago. i had avoided it for some time since it was an MMO. i think all said i played around 2.5 months, then i was running short one month and thought i would cancel and see if i could live without it, and yea, im kinda happy i quit the game and cant say im in a hurry to return, or that i will ever return. better off waiting for the next great space game.

thing about EVE is it is like a job... it takes lots of effort to get anything done, and thats all well and good if you want to play EVE 8 hours a day.

another thing, is the game is kinda fugly. there is supposed to be 5000 systems but i bet there are less than 10 variations of the systems aside from color. sure, stations maybe in a different spot, but what does that matter since you cant actually fly anywhere... you have to warp or select objects in space and choose approach... no way to actually fly your ship like in Freelancer.

anyways, i hate to rail on the game cause i enjoyed my time in it.

if you combined Freelancer and EVE, that would be something.

Smile

Also kinda curious - why does CCCP charge so much?

$20 a month subscription - I guess in the short run this can be overlooked considering you never actually pay for the game itself. Over time though (and considering your account has to be active for your skill timer to run) this is pretty inexcusable.

$15 a year extra for VOIP - other MMOs you get this for free in your $10/mo subscription.

A credit system (much like the one pornsites use for PPV movies) to watch EVE TV...funny stuff.

I know shit is expensive in the middle of nowhere (based in Iceland right?) However, this is just kinda greedy and probably doesn't reflect too well for potential new customers.

you must be paying with the EURO.

in the US its $14.99, and $10 a year for their stupid VOIP thing, i agree it should be free, lol. if you buy in advance the rates can be as low as $11.99 a month i think. its also possible to buy GTC codes with game money, which is nice.

yea i thought it was cool that you didnt need to buy software or expansions, but after playing EVE and slowly warming to the idea of a MM game, i realized that when you buy a game or expansion they usually come with 3 months of time, so its like buying a GTC but not having to download the software from their servers.

yea, EVE TV looks stupid to me and yet another thing not included. i think CCP is gonna kill themselves eventually.

It's 14.99$ ... And no other MMO has integrated VOIP. Everyone uses Teamspeak or Ventrilo anyhow as it's not mandatory.

EVE also has had 5 expansions, all which were free.

And no, you do not have to have your account active for skills to train.

And those who don't like VOIP or EVETV don't have to subscribe to it. It's rather simple, really.
