my M/B has a VT8237 which conflicts with the SATA of my new DVD burner,causes it to burn in PIO mode (speeds are up to X2)
Bought a new PCI to SATA Card,now everything is perfect,and my question is:

does the DVD burner still uses in some way,the south bridge? or the PCI card has its own south bridge chip???

Confused

he said that his mainboard has a VT8237 Serial ATA RAID Controller that turns his sata burner from DMA to PIO mode forcing him to burn with 2x speeds , so thats why he bought a PCI to SATA Card and now he is asking if that burner will use the south bridge to turn back to PIO .

@FreeDiver
if it will not turn to PIO again then it has a south bridge chip or your bios of that burner was not compatible to burn in DMA in the first place on your mainboard

now it burns in UDMA5 (when connected to the pci card),it takes about 4.5mins to burn a disk compared to 51mins (!!!) when it was connected to the m/b.

As a rule of thumb, stay away from VIA products!
