It's DX10! |
It says on the alanwake.com forums it will work with DX9 .... you know better?
Anyway, that's worse, even smaller market and i'm damned if I'm going to upgrade again.
Me, I reckon I'm about finished with PC games now anyway, developers just keep taking the piss with their ridiculous hardware requirements especially when stuff looks and plays better on the 360. Sadly, 360 is the way to go - just have to get a keyboard and mouse for it I guess.

Next question would be (for hfric): Why is DX10 Vista only if it runs on dx9 cards?
[Note to the forums' noobs: I'm referring to an old comment made by a user saying that he got dx10 effect under Vista with an dx9 card. ]

the game COULD work quite happily on win xp, but its being developed vista only not because its the only platform that can handle it, but rather because the developers are in microsofts pocket...

So you think forum users on the alanwake.com forum knows better than here, or are you refering to some official post? Last time I heard, Alan Wake on PC is DX10 only, but of course I can be wrong, maybe they also put in a DX9 renderer.

It was a forum mod reply which said DX9c was adequate but the graphics would suffer etc. so that's almost official wouldn't you think? Maybe not ......
Yeah, I heard it was DX10 only too but the small print only says Vista exclusive. Excuse my ignorance but how many peeps are going to have DX10 on their Vista boxes anyway?
Whichever way it cuts it looks like commercial suicide anyways, it's got to be another nail in the PC gaming coffin don't you think?

Community managers doesn't know shit. Unless it was the publisher or the devs themselves, it doesn't mean anything.
I don't think it's suicide, at least not for Remedy, but I do think it was a big mistake of Microsoft to make DX10 Vista exclusive. However it is only marketing.. if Vista was not needed for DX10, would you even bother getting it?

Dude, when the game comes out, it will be almost a year since DX10 cards were released. I say it's enough time to absorb them, especially now with the cheap 8600 (and even the cheaper 8300) cards out (or soon to be released).
Besides, no DX10 card? ... Don't play the game!

lol ... I'll play on 360 then. I honestly don't feel like I've got my money's worth out of my 7900GT yet and after ten years or so of chasing my tail with graphics cards I think I've finally had enough. Really looking forward to this game too ... damn them!

guys, suck my cock
alan wake runs both on vista and xbox360, and as we know x360 doesnt support dx10. petri järvilehto has said alan wake is dx9 as well as dx10 - the question is, is it just technically meaning you can't turn off dx10 effects = requires dx10 gpu
yes

Good luck then. And I felt the same way about my 360 when it melted and died. Played a few games but not enough to warrant the purchase of such an expensive and poorly designed console. Just reinforced what I always knew, consoles will come and go-and distract my attention from time to time, but pc gaming will always be where its at.

It is for Vista and DX10 only you stupid fucks, it is even an interview somewhere why they choose vista only. And by the time the game is out im sure vista has matured in terms of performance and stability.

Vista > XP
XP is dated... The only people who slag Vista off now are the ones that either haven't tried it or they tried an early release way back last year!

They've read in some stupid blog of some idiot that hasn't even tried it himself that Vista sucks, so it sucks.

Eh, I won't move to vista till SP1 comes out for it. I did the same thing with XP. Didn't come to XP from 98 till sp1 was almost done with. Came over and XP was near flawless and have loved it ever since. Can't say if vista is buggy or not but I get pissed and bad impressions by stupid crap so if vista pisses me off I won't use it lol. So I'd rather come when a SP comes out.

I'll move to Vista when the first games that are really WORTH it are released. Not such crap as Lost Planet or Shadowrun that don't even make advantage of it.

You are such an ignorant LeoNatan...
Quote: | no DX10 card? ... Don't play the game! |
Alot people switched over to Notebooks and therefore can't upgrade to better Graphiccards. My system is really great for gaming, except the weak 7600go, but I can run any game and mostly at HIGH settings (except 360 ports like Dirt & Lost Planet with forced HDR). I want to play Alan Wake and it isn' THAT technically advanced, that my Core2Duo wouldn't be able to handle it. My CPU and 2GB RAM would handle the game perfect and even PS 3.0 would be enough.
It is not the fault of the gamer, if the developers suck M$ Dicks and so Remedy forces everybody to get DX10 Cards and Vista.
I "CAN" get Vista. But WHY?! Because it's slower in every way? And I don't have a DX10 Card, so why should I switch and pay so much money, when XP could run these games without problems.
If microsoft would release Vista² and would say, from now on you will need dx11 Graphicscard and dx11 mouse and dx11 speakers and so on, would you still run after them? Would you still suck their dick?
Oh man
Quote: | no DX10 card? ... Don't play the game! |
you make me laugh...
Alan Wake wouldn't even need DX10 Graphics, look at the screens.. And shouldn't it be the users choice if he WANT's DX10 Graphics? I would like to buy and play Alan Wake on my Windows XP computer with a DX9 Graphics card and I'm sure it would be a very good game.
Or do you guys really think that PS 3.0 technology and Core2Duo + lots of RAM and Windows XP can't handle a game that looks like Alan Wake?

pc gaming is all about getting latest vcard that they release every year
unless u can't keep up with it [laptop lol] u have to move over to consoles, like me
u'll keep bitching u'll get jumped and eaten by angry pigz
it's not about technology anymore, that died 5 years ago, it's all about marketing now
there weren't that many games that used ps3.0 and/or dx9 at it full potential, but somehow we moving on to dx10,11,12 etc
TesterWS wrote: | ELIZ wrote: | shimec wrote: |

LOL its NOT. Vista will run perfectly fine on a Computer with DX9 Graphics. And if you have PS3.0, you'll see all effects AERO has to offer. But you won't be able to play DX10 only games.
Vista would even start on DX8 cards but AERO wouldn't look all that shiney and stuff.
Stop posting crap, go play 360 |
first double post
second it installs dx10 as a software but will use your current hw dx8,9 as emulation in games that require vista but not forcing u to use dx10 just like Halo2
what i meant is vista only works with dx10 u can't install dx9 on vista or can u?

Vista uses Direct X 9 as well as Direct X 10 but the DX9 version is known as Direct X 9.L on Vista and the latest DirectX redistributables also works fine with it.
(The last couple of these monthly redistributables even has a few Direct X 10 related updates in them aside from the usual DX 9 files and addons.)
For Alan Wake I could easily understand a Vista exclusive title if it was DX 10 only but the game will probably support DirectX 9 as well to help sales and such so Vista shouldn't really be required and it will probably be cracked similar to the Halo 2 and Shadowrun releases.
