Fullscreen problem solved, just installed newest vga drivers (NVidia 94.24).

Halo 2 was almost unplayable in Vista with my shitty PC (Athlon 2800+, 1,5GB DDR333, 7600GT) but in XP it runs smooth, everything on low of course with 1024x768.

Gonna wait couple of years until upgrading or maybe sooner if I hit that jackpot in lottery Smile

I don't get it, how that would work without a crack.
Without a crack the game needs to be activated to get pass the first levels.

I used the map changer thingie. there was a link for it somewhere in this thread.
Aha true Very Happy. That should atleast let me try to finish the game Smile.

B4 the Vista crack was out i completed the whole game by doing this method.

Works like a charm, the exact steps are a few pages back.

And yes you have to edit the startup.exe, rename it to startup2.exe and run it.

Level 12 is called Gravemind and comes shortly after the level you are currently on (Delta Halo if I remember correctly.) so you are quite close but there's still four more levels before you reach it.

EDIT: Based on the map files and their names you would be on 05a_deltaapproach.map whereas the 12th map would be 07a_highcharity.map four levels later.
(With the game ending on 08b_deltacontrol.map three levels after that.)

Your prosessor must be 64-bit version...right? Mine is Athlon XP released in 2002, first 2800+ version. And is that DDR1 or DDR2 memory you got there?

Hmmm...in Vista totally unplayable (graphics low and no AA) and in XP totally playable (same settings..with medium it's still better than low in Vista) but real jerky on high. Should I do like Homer and stuck a plutonium rod inside of my PC to get it going? Very Happy

One thing I didn't do in Vista was turning off Aero and superfetch and also that shitty sidebar Wink althought I read somewhere that those should be turned off automatically when executing fullscreen aplications. Well..too late, already formatted that partition Twisted Evil

Finished it after 5hrs of gameplay... I must tell you that the graphics really annoyed me (i played RE4, the chinese or sth version and the graphics didn't bother me at all). One of my friends that saw it on my computer told me that it looks worse than Halo 1 Razz (played it on max settings tho).

just completed the level "That Old, Familiar Feeling", where i just retrieved the index and the arbiter fell into the hole, but then when the level ended it asked for the original Halo2 disc, so my question is, if there is anyway to get past it???or are all the people on XP stuck there?

I want to clarify one thing. Is it only the XP patch users who are getting the insert disc message at level 12 or are Vista users experiencing this too?

For me, the game ran like shit on V. Just barely playable. On XP, I got ~50% better performance. Medium detail, FSAA off, 1280x1024. Specs: Athlon XP 2400, 1gb ram, 7600gt. If it turns out that there's no insert disc problem (with the razor release) on V, I'm gonna go back to V and see if I can improve performance. Though I have tried disabling Aero and superfetch, if I remember correctly.

can anyone confirm that if the very first cloneDVD iso (Boo release) and the latest daemon tools is used, then it is possible to get through the level 12 disc check???

If one is still interested to get it going after 12th...there seems to be a workaround in here (look at the comments). It seems the problem is in the installer and all you have to do is to replace "07a_highcharity.map" file from your DVD (maps folder) using (and here is where I gaved up) "ungzip" and decompress it your Halo 2/maps folder replacing the original...

So...if anyone is brave enough to test this Very Happy (keylogger/trojan?)

Yeah, I know I'm way too paranoid Twisted Evil

gzip is just a different format of compression, often used in linux. You can find many apps that work with gzip, including from fairly safe sites like cnet downloads.
And if you're still paranoid just make sure you have active scanning with an up to date virus checker and you'll be fine.

It seems "GTA .dtz extractor" can also decompress these files...but it still asks original disc. Evil or Very Mad
