I don't know exactly how their activation system works but you need both a license key (downloadable from the purchase site as well) and the program installed on the same computer since the key is hardware based though you can always cancel the current key and get a new one wich is what happens when they release new versions such as the initial 213 then the updated 214 and now version 215 with SPTD 1.50 and various fixed and improvements such as Vista stability fixes.

You also need to be connected to the internet for the program to work but broadband is available in most countries by now so it's not a real problem.
(Besides, I'd guess that any eventual cracked release will remove that requirement as well.)

The program doesn't work at all without the license key installed and verified but there were discussions on the forums about changing it to allowing basic functions such as image mounting and profiles without a key and more advanced functions such as image creation when a key were active.

And theres the problem. The license files use a 3 way protection. First of all, theres the digital signatures (which use SHA-1 hashes). Then there's the online activation. And then there's the wrapping.

The 1st layer of wrapping is just plain ol' UPX. That is easy to unpack. Issue is, unwrapping that removes the digital signature.....And then, we have the additional issue of the keyfile being encrypted using VMProtect......

So, it seems the DT devs obviously thought out thier protection. As well as the license file acting as a helper DLL for the main app....Which makes things even more complicated....

The trial version of Daemon Tools Pro REQUIRES that I install some fucking adware, yeah right ! Fuck this shit, I'm deleting everything DT Pro related. I'll stick with the plain DT for now.

why do u have to use alchohol? DT does the job just fine, and yasu can be run on startup without u doing a thing....sooo again dtpro has no useful advantages over regular atm.

Hello ???
I need to be able to make and write images (although I write most as files with Nero) Also, having Alcohol's nice image list is a life saver. Very organised, no matter in which disk the image files are.

Also I don't want YASU to fiddle with my registry unnecessarily, so autorunning it is not an option for me.

Finally, I'm tired of watching for new versions of all these programs.

well then u never said you made images, i cant read your mind, personally i use nero to burn shit and have no need to make images, i just store until im done with whatever then burn it off.

codemasters uses securom now see (Overlord reloaded) starforce programmers must cry all day long Razz 1 year ago most biggest publishers used it now almost none Razz
