finally got into a server and enjoyed it, i like the fast pace and the way you have to work as a team to destroy objective, build etc. It can feel a bit manic at the start because I couldnt understand anything.
The game runs smooth as but doesnt look all that great but the models of the characters are good its just the terrain is a bit crappy. Also the aiming needs work it feels dead sluggish.

There's definitely a long learning curve. Not steep, but long. This game is deep, it's *meant* to be complex, not spawn & frag.
If you come from ET/RTCW it's chaotic, but easier. If you come from UT2k4 Assault it'll also help. If you come from something else I can only feel sad for you; regardless if you like it or not, you'll feel REALLY lost for a long time not knowing wtf hit you or what to do next.
The game has many hints on the objectives and on what has to be done, but it still takes time get used to them.

@ people saying a game sucks because of the ping and their crappy computer, not testing the game properly and then saying it sucks! |
Indeed. Then I corrected myself that I should play more.

I'm getting this computer tomorrow, how well do the people that have played it reckon it plays the game?
Amd Athlon X2 4800+
Geforce 8600 GT 256MB
2GB DDR2
I know it's not top of the line (the memory is pretty slow and it's a low-mid end new card), but will it run on good details OK?
I know it sounds like a newbish/bragging question, which I really didn't mean to. (It really is a budget system, I plan to upgrade as I go along) but more along the lines of how optimised the game is.

I'm sure it'll run fine, but why did you piss your money away on an Athlon X2?

Yep, should run really fine though do have in mind that it's only a beta and that it still has a lot of glitches that needs to be worked out.
EDIT:
Here you can find a lot of tweaking advice to make the game run better:
http://community.enemyterritory.com/forums/
I'm going to try this one myself since I find the game a little "twitchy" at times:
Code: | To edit the following in your cfg might help with the "twitching" that some players experience:
seta com_unlock_maxFPS "60"
seta com_unlock_timingMethod "1"
seta com_unlockFPS "1"
maxFPS should be an even multiple of 30... 30, 60, 90 etc.
Set the value that you know your rig can handle. |

Like I said, budget system. People say the same thing about my 8600 and my low-ish end RAM. It's a lot better than my old system (x800, 1gb ram, XP2700+) that fried due to a faulty PSU. Like I said, not top of the line but everything will allow me to upgrade slowly.

This game is sex personified! I've been waiting for this ever since I pretty much mastered the covert ops class in ET 4 years ago. I can recommend this to anyone that liked ET!

Nothing towards your graphics card, but as far as i know you still get more bang for your buck going with a Core 2 Duo, which is why i was wondering.

Heh, was most accurate with 61% and best in medic/technican skill, no idea how I did that
It's not fast at all, but the vehicles do suck so bad. Undrivable/controllable most of them. If I'd know what to do and where it would be ok. Graphicks seem blocky and not great even maxed with 8xAF and 4xAA in 1280x1024. Same as I use in BF2142, it runs great, this I had to take shadows out and some ultra setting to high, now it's fine.
All servers are full all the time, took me over ½h to get to one with under 100 ping, over 166 ping server was unplayable. Weapons are weird but that's given when not on human side and I admit that don't have a clue woh to use them =) Did manage to fo a spawnpoint with a needlethingy brutalizing a dead human tho. Zoom goes awfully pixelated and don't know does it do any good.
Map was big anough for me and din't feel DM, as I barely saw any enemy always being in the wrong spot Trees look bad, textures are blurry and ground has weird orange spots all around. Weapon fire effects are from back in the days, but they kinda fit the whole rusty look. Maybe the terrain is supposed to look battlescared (or just loks bad).
Anyhow, GFX doesn't really matter in the gameplay, but hopefully they are improved to retail. Don't need anything Crysis like, but some parts look too nineties. I could actually enjoy this if I learn how to play and I come from BF2142, so it's not like every BF player will hate this.
Missing spot command and squads, but maybe they are patent pended Oh and didn't see massive team killing or bunny hopping. Maybe just because I die so easily that missed half the action, but it's nice to suck at something =)

It's good to see there's at least a BF* player that doesn't see the game as a sequel to BF* and can accept it for what it is!
I agree with most of your observations about GFX. Just a few pointers about the rest:
It has Fireteams (like ET), which is the same thing as squads on BF2+ (sans voip). Press numpad enter (default) to access it.
It doesn't have commanders, right. Although like ET, any Field Ops acts as a sort of commander, because he calls the shots (literally); but the 'commanding' is more distributed, since deployables are available to several different classes.
The message command (default v) has a spot-like feature: just press V then attack (or mouse1?) when looking at something. It'll appear on the map for a while even if there's no radar activated.
And lastly; being objetive-driven, the game has a linear flow. So if you're on the wrong spot, you definitely won't see any action for a long time. If you're the right spot, it'll be completely frantic. That's why the player limit thing - 64 on BF2+ vs 32 on ETQW - can't be a direct comparison; I've had more action playing ET games (with "more people on the same spot") than I've had with BF2, so I can see this working with ETQW as well. The gameplay is not stationary, so one can't camp one spot as a sniper for the full round or anything like that.
